I really wish I'd kept a list of every one as it'd be really fascinating to chart my musical education !
First thing I saw was probably Elton John along with The Beach Boys, Chaka Khan,Beach Boys and others at Wembley Stadium - taken by my cousin probably back in 1975...
then,in no particular order ...
Loudon Wainwright 111 at Cambridge Folk Festival, Cheap Trick, The Tourists, The Clash (several times),Toots and the Maytals, Pablo Black, Magazine, Throbbing Gristle, The Slits,The Raincoats, Spizz Energi (or one of the variants), Bow Wow Wow, Crowded House, Jane Siberry, Pete Townshend, Aswad,The Rezillos, the Undertones, Laurie Anderson, Stereolab,Lemon Jelly.......and my mind has gone blank...some were truly fab experiences !

rowan1971 · 05/05/2007 17:32

My first was Nik Kershaw at the Hammy Odeon (as was). I was about 13, and my mother made some tomato sandwiches for me and my mate Lizzie to eat in case we got hungry. (We did indeed eat them, drawing curious looks from our fellow screamers.)

I also went to Live Aid at Wembley, which was a brilliant day out for a 14 year old!

Best ever gig - Orbital at Glastonbury in 1994, just as the sun was going down. Aaaaahhhhh. [spliff emoticon]

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 17:33

Crowded House was my first gig then goodness knows how many others, but highlights include

REM
Belly (x3)
Blur (x7)
Oasis (x2)
Embrace
The Cardigans (x3)
Catatonia (x3)
Stereolab
TRavis (x4)
The BLuetones (x3)
Supergrass (x3)
Bjork (x2)
Prodigy
Jennifer Knapp
Aimee Mann
Tori Amos
The Supernaturals (x3)
The Verve (x2)
Manic Street Preachers (x2)
Portishead
Martyn Joseph
Elastica
Sleeper
Idlewild
Belle and Sebastian

and I"d have to go through my box of tickets to remember the rest. Haven't been to a proper gig in ages.

Best venue?

I'd vote for King Tuts or Barrowlands - not really keen on arena type gigs and seated stuff is a pile of pants

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 17:34

Plus 4 weekends at T in the Park - festival time of year - love that smell

oxocube · 05/05/2007 17:35

first was Bruce Springsteen, if we are discounting student gigs in dodgy pubs

powder28 · 05/05/2007 17:35

Pulp, in 1996 or 1997. Junior Senior a few years ago. That's it , wish id been to more.

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 17:35

Ooooh Pulp were great live - but only saw them a couple of times.

myalias · 05/05/2007 17:35

First concert was The Cure at Birmingham NEC in 1985 and in no particular order James Brown, Galliano, James Taylor Quartet (4 times), Anita Baker, The Cult (5 times) Robert Plant, Ozric Tentacles, Incognito, Maze, Will Downing, Brand New Heavies, The Christians, Faith No More, Jamiroquai, Simple Minds, Jason Donovan, Lloyd Cole and his Commotions (4 times), Mica Paris. Edwin Starr (3 times), Bad Manners, Terence Trent Darby, Texas, The Australian Doors (3 times), Black Crowes, Little Angels, and many many more.
I used to work in a music store so got discounted and sometimes free tickets to concerts. I have just made a montage of some of my old concert tickets which I have put in my cloakroom.
I'm off to see Muse at Wembley in June.

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 17:36

Myalias - I've still got all my tickets - how have you done your montage? Was it straightforward?

powder28 · 05/05/2007 17:43

Don't laugh, but i really wish id seen the spice girls.

OH MY GOD, just remembered I went to see Steps with my friend when I was 18

For once I was taller than everyone else

McDreamy · 05/05/2007 17:45

Level 42 - first gig

Aerosmith
Bryan Adams
Spice Girls
The Proclaimers
Squeeze
Little Angels

myalias · 05/05/2007 17:46

Yes it was quite easy. I used a large picture frame and just spread out all the better quality tickets and put them in random order so they overlapped just stuck on with a glue stick. Years ago I went to a friends party and he had one up in his kitchen and thought what a good idea. It's only taken me 15 years to get round to making my own.

Mercy · 05/05/2007 17:46

Binker - blimey, someone else who remembers The Rezillos!

McDreamy · 05/05/2007 17:47

Going to see Bryan Adams again - he's coming to Cyprus next month

myalias · 05/05/2007 17:52

Powder28 your wish may come true Spice Girls are rumoured to be touring later this year.

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 17:53

Ah then maybe I should confess to Boyzone and PJ & Duncan too I was a shtoodent. I thought I was being ironic.

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 17:53

Thanks for the insipiration Myalias - will get a big frame from Ikea
