I really wish I'd kept a list of every one as it'd be really fascinating to chart my musical education !
First thing I saw was probably Elton John along with The Beach Boys, Chaka Khan,Beach Boys and others at Wembley Stadium - taken by my cousin probably back in 1975...
then,in no particular order ...
Loudon Wainwright 111 at Cambridge Folk Festival, Cheap Trick, The Tourists, The Clash (several times),Toots and the Maytals, Pablo Black, Magazine, Throbbing Gristle, The Slits,The Raincoats, Spizz Energi (or one of the variants), Bow Wow Wow, Crowded House, Jane Siberry, Pete Townshend, Aswad,The Rezillos, the Undertones, Laurie Anderson, Stereolab,Lemon Jelly.......and my mind has gone blank...some were truly fab experiences !

Coxy24 · 23/05/2007 15:29

My first was Boyzone - I hated them but my friend loved them and no one else would go with her - we were only 14 at the time!

Since then Justin Timberlake x 2 - 1st December 2003 - at 8 months pregnant! and then about 4 weeks ago on 27th April!! Totally awesome........

My first ever gig was probably some obscure Irish folkster my mum and dad would have dragged me along to see.
Of my own accord, it was Bros (yes, BROS - the pubescent twins who looked like exceptionally pure-bred members of Hitler's Youth - I loved it! Especially the bit when Matt Goss dropped his pants and showed off his Stars N Stripes boxer shorts. How very 'Regan Years' it all was...bless him).

Since then (1988?) I have lost count. I've worked in the music industry for the past 10 years, so gigs and festivals are the main perk of the job. Doesn't get much better than Nine Simone at the Royal Albert Hall (her voice made me shiver, especially with the fab acoustics there), or more recently, Jay Z at the same venue. Was a moment of victory to see the Royal Albert filled with young black faces; seeing Nas and Jay Z on the same stage was electric; and the bizzarreness of having Christ Martin in the band and Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyonce on backing vocals (WTF???) ...'twas fabulously good fun.

tombley · 23/05/2007 20:17

My first gig was to see U2 at the old Cardiff Arms Park. A huge stadium gig with a stage that revolved, huge screens and pyrotechnics, the lot.

Next gig was probably some indie band in the Manchester Academy which was somewhat smaller.

Have seen many bands since then but the ones that stand out are;
Pulp, Cast, The Bluetones, Tom Jones(great showman) Robbie Williams (ditto Tom), and The Manic Street Preachers in the Millennium Stadium on Millennium eve.
You can date my freedom years from that lot I think.

tombley · 23/05/2007 20:20

OMG how could I forget my most recent gig was

Hi5.

Love that Nathan - he sooo means it.

LoveAngel · 23/05/2007 23:00

Tombley, I've heard the Wiggles piss all over Hi-5. (Apparently the acoustics in Wembley Arena just don't do
Hi -5 justice)

;-)

Housemum · 23/05/2007 23:17

Budababe · 23/05/2007 23:26

Genesis
Prince
Bruce Springsteen
Rickie Lee Jones
Steely Dan

And I'd kill to see Crowded House and Peter Gabriel in June, but sadly that's a non-runner.

Mhamai · 23/05/2007 23:28

Were you wearing a rain mac towards the end? do you remember it piddled down!!!!!!!!
The walk out of that park was worse than a marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Budababe · 23/05/2007 23:31

No I wasn't wearing a rain mac! Wished I had.

And the walk was a nightmare. Was with my sis and BIL and we ended up walking into town via one pub (of course) and a chipper. Finally got home around 2am. Was worth it though. Much much better than last year.

(An I forgot to add Boomtown Rats to my list of concerts - free tickets courtesy if the Irish Rugby team at the time!)

Mhamai · 23/05/2007 23:38

Ooh er missus, the rugby team! Gawd the memory of that gig, me and a gang of heads walked into town also, ended up at an all night party and I was flying out to Lanzagrotty the following morning. I looked like a contender for the B Forde clinic and saw the look of horror from two rather sedate student nurses that had an apt next to mine, they need not have worried I met a fab Spanish guy from madrid who lives on the island, wer'e still great friends! oops sorry that was a bit of a ramble!

Budababe · 23/05/2007 23:40

Lol Mhamai!

Could do with a nice Spanish type. Or any type!

But in the meantime am off to bed as I need my beauty sleep.

Mhamai · 23/05/2007 23:41
