Coming Clean by Liz Fraser

A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author. It would be neither fair nor right that posters are completely silenced in this particular matter.

As such, and in line with Mumsnet not seeing “anything wrong with honest feedback” I would like to make the comment that Coming Clean as a Memoir falls short due to the shaky and not entirely truthful narrative. There are certain facts contained within this memoir that are easily disprovable (for example, relating to the marital status of both author and her partner when they started their ill-fated affair), which leaves a massive question mark over the rest of the book. Is it entirely reasonable to make money from something that is promoted as truthful when it is, in fact, not entirely true?

I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work.

As long as posters align their comments with the MN guidelines, this is a topic that people may wish to keep discussing, and also keep in the public domain. And if MN wants to provide a set of rules particular to this thread – certainly if they are arbitrary and differ from the general guidelines - I am sure it would be very helpful.

Mumsnet, please help us to help each other by keeping in the public domain something that us silenced mums feel should be out there.

Her travel expenses for flights and accommodation alone must be more than £5,000 already. This doesn’t even include transportation to and from airports, food, trains, bike hire, gelatos, coffees….. To cover these expenses, her gross income would need to exceed £6.5k, assuming she pays taxes on her income from Airbnb in Italy and the UK… though I have my doubts.

I’m pretty certain she’s making the most of all available benefits too, including pupil premium, so Scout gets free school lunches, trips and more covered. Totally takes the piss considering Scout has two working parents and millionaire grandparents. I imagine she gets heating poverty allowance and max UC including sick benefits. It’s hard not to dislike her before you know she basically robs the poor directly too. She no doubt votes Tory.

‘Made a pact to take time off when we hit 50’. Um right

CambridgeBuns · 07/09/2023 12:44

More above. She actually thinks she works! Is this the chap she had liaisons with against the Brandenburg Gate not long after her wedding?

Is his wife included in this pact? I think it's safe to assume that he's married.

"Dozens of bloggers are raking in six-figure salaries on Substack as the self-publishing platform moves beyond its roots in news to become embraced by chefs, stylists and gardeners.
British writers earning more than £100,000 per year by charging readers a small fee include the culture journalist Emma Gannon and the historian Ed West. Others, including the pastry chef Nicola Lamb, have been able to quit their full-time job to focus on it."
Article in the Times the other day. Maybe this is the money spinner.

How many actual times can a person tell the world HOW HAPPY they ARE. HOW AMAZING it IS to be ABROAD. HOW RECENTLY they were THERE AND HOW MAD IT IS TO BE BACK. How FLYING SOLO IS THE BEST THING EVER and they NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD HAPPEN AFTER *insert cptsd/vague hint at abuse/general horrid horrid life stuff.

Accompanied of course by random leg or body shots/weird dance/old photo/random bloke (or random blokes hand/arm).

Even if she were my closest friend I'd be bored shitless

Barelybarefoot · 07/09/2023 16:58

I'm part of a few WhatsApp groups with close friends, colleagues and my sisters and cousins. It doesn't require much self-awareness to recognise when you're boring the group. She isn’t reading the cues is she? Just us left!

Raffington55 · 07/09/2023 20:11

That silly fake face she pulls in her reels when she tries to make it look as though she's 'trying hard to remember' what she has been doing. 🤮

Shortbread49 · 07/09/2023 20:28

Jumping in that fast river when you are there on your own is irresponsible there is no one waiting on the bank to check you get out safely

Tortiemiaw · 07/09/2023 21:05

But she's practically an elite athlete remember. She laughs in the face of stupid actions.

I love that she does them in public, desperately hoping someone thinks she’s important. But yes the fake facial expressions and laughs… her fam must be so embarrassed. WHO exactly does she think she is doing this for?

"Here's the supermarket I was at with my daughter. It will be strange going in there without her". She seems more and more desperate to share ... absolutely nothing of any interest whatsoever. No matter, as long as she thinks she has people's attention for a couple of seconds.

Tortiemiaw · 08/09/2023 09:05

I think I am going to video myself going into the garden in a minute:
'This is the garden I have been in with my children so many times before. It's a bit strange walking around it in my own, because I'm used to them talking to me whist we're in the garden. I feel a little sad about it, as they are currently in the house or at college and they are not currently available to go into the garden with me. IMAGINE being back in the GARDEN again, I was only here yesterday, with one of my CHILDREN but today, I am alone.... Anyway here I go! lets see how it feels'

NHSarah · 08/09/2023 12:44

Mornin’ you losers, with your stable lives, doing your mundane jobs, to pay your taxes so I can rob the benefits system and abused women to live it up anywhere but at home.

Anywhere but home my little trolletts, because I have no home beyond bricks and mortar. Home is where the heart is and I have no heart.

Im going to let you into the secret of eternal happiness in your 50s, even though I’m not in my 50s. It is to…. Burn everything bridge you’ve ever had so you are free to be completely on your own save for the odd out of pity duty and booty call.

You see, losers,

I have no stability or friends unless you count random encounters 1, 2 and 3 decades apart as friends 🤷‍♀️. I’m infamous for my inability to hold down a job, even fantasy jobs as a headcase or a publisher. I know. Not even I could get me to deliver work!

I’ve not seen my older kids in any real sense since they bored me to death and I fekked orf with my friend’s husband when they were teenagers, close to 10 years ago!

My flight fly in my happiness ointment is my youngest child, my failed attempt at trapping a man I was unable to trap. Thank goodness though that it’s mandated by the legal system that she must fek orf 50% of the time to the man I failed to throw under a bus by slandering him. This mean I only have to drag her about like a Spar bag occasionally.

This, for some bizarre and unfathomable reasons you don’t understand, is what makes me insanely happy when you weirdos would feel immeasurably sad.

I see that on Amazon there seems to be some editing of one star reviews.
one reviewer has had to repost hers in April this year

RhinoRhino · 25/10/2023 22:08

There's a new thread @ZolaBudd See link a couple of posts above yours.
