Coming Clean by Liz Fraser

A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author. It would be neither fair nor right that posters are completely silenced in this particular matter.

As such, and in line with Mumsnet not seeing “anything wrong with honest feedback” I would like to make the comment that Coming Clean as a Memoir falls short due to the shaky and not entirely truthful narrative. There are certain facts contained within this memoir that are easily disprovable (for example, relating to the marital status of both author and her partner when they started their ill-fated affair), which leaves a massive question mark over the rest of the book. Is it entirely reasonable to make money from something that is promoted as truthful when it is, in fact, not entirely true?

I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work.

As long as posters align their comments with the MN guidelines, this is a topic that people may wish to keep discussing, and also keep in the public domain. And if MN wants to provide a set of rules particular to this thread – certainly if they are arbitrary and differ from the general guidelines - I am sure it would be very helpful.

Mumsnet, please help us to help each other by keeping in the public domain something that us silenced mums feel should be out there.

Exactly this. Most of us will never fully recover. I can’t ever see myself being able to afford a guys memberships let alone swirling in front of the mirror in one. I’ll say it again Liz Fraser abuses abused women with her own behaviour.

Slight change of topic, but I remain convinced that Sarah Middleton is somehow LF - am I the only one?! I can see she has videos etc which are obv not but it just feels a bit odd and a very familiar writing / tone…..

Has there been a falling out with her parents I’ve missed? They’ve gone from heroes to zeros since she lost control of contact. Maybe no longer needs to fake a stable family background 🤷‍♀️

She’s marking herself on Liz. Sees her as a beacon of hope for divorcing women. She’s promoting some divorce coach too. General rule of thumb with all these quack counsellors is if they’re taking your money, they taking you for a ride. Their experience isn’t yours.

Well, the latest ‘Flying Solo’ is out so I guess Liz has been ‘writing’. She’s had quite the summer!

Today's 'Flying Solo' post - soooo funny. Has EricaLaing hacked into her substack account?

"Independent, autonomous living is not talked about enough ......." according to Ms F. But Liz, have we finished talking about mental health, being the partner of an alcoholic and domestic violence? Actually, some of us are waiting to START talking about these things, through the beautiful white pages of the Wedgie Press publications. If only we could get the submissions information (promised in May). If only we could be unsilenced.

Back to Flying Solo: There will be a blog. And podcaaaasts.

Of course there will. No doubt about it. I, for one, have every confidence that there will be an abundance of blog posts, not all of which will be telling us what is going to happen and how excited Ms Fraser is about sharing it all with us. And podcaaaasts. I'm SURE there will be plenty. Recorded in a beautiful room somewhere above a book shop. Not all of which will be punctuated by giggling, not every third word will be "aaaarm" and it won't all be spoken in a Smashie and Nicie accent ("how about a bit of Bachman Turner Overdrive ......?") Although I can pretty much guarantee that all podcasts will be about Liz, the whole Liz and nothing but Liz.

It's all coming soon ............. (If STUFF and THINGS and LIFE don't get in the way!)

Talking of book shops, what has happened to Gulp Fiction? Or The Missing Bean for that matter. Artistic differences?

She is not delighting in autonomy and independence , they were foisted on her and she objected as it decimated her. She would prefer not to be dealing with them and is hypocritical

is patronising I would not pay to have someone tell me how to have a walk in the park, have dinner on my own or book a swim isn’t there all common knowledge. Do people really pay to read this when she puts it everywhere anyway

Yes, she's now an expert on that mysterious phenomenon called 'living alone'. She wasn't aware 'living alone' was actually a thing, as she got Harry to marry her at 21 and then filled her life with affairs with other women's husbands for years. But now she has lived alone for 18 months she would like to HELP people who have probably been living alone and enjoying it for years and teach them how to do it best. Patronising much?

I think the 'work' that Ms Fraser did yesterday was the hilarious 'Flying Solo' substack post, about the specifics of her single life and how HAPPY she is. Not sure I'd really call that 'working' but we all know that Ms Fraser's idea of work is a bit different to what the rest of us consider it to be.

Really pleased for her that she got up yesterday and had a coffee, but just to confirm that I - a married woman - also got up and had a coffee yesterday morning as I do every morning. In fact, I am drinking one as I write this. Or should that be "as I WORK in happy silence"?

So, single ladies, married ladies, ladies having affairs with other people's husbands, we are all united in being able to have a coffee first thing.

Fabulous!

And now I should get on with my exciting day of doing things that I want to do, with people I want to be with. Before I return to my real job tomorrow, along with millions of other women, be they single, married, having an affair with somebody else's husband or whatever ........

DYING at the fact that the only comment on the Insta post is from Sarah Middleton asking about where to find the podcast. For a self-styled expert in everything in the works, liz has a lot to learn about when to use/not use capitals at the start of words. But hey, LIFE, STUFF, SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

😆😆😆 is she a therapist now?. I think she played back the first silly part about the chair and realised her pants/legs had not been showing (the aim of the vid in the first place). So she shot another with some added drivel pretending her leg was stiff and getting a leg/knickers shot in. She's so easy to read. Basically makes up a load of tripe as an excuse for a thirst shot 🤣🤣🤣
