Coming Clean by Liz Fraser

A couple of threads that I had posted on relating to the Memoir ‘Coming Clean’ by Liz Fraser have been deleted from the MN site, apparently due to non-compliance of the MN guidelines from the posters. MN are obviously well within their rights to delete threads if they demonstrably fail to comply with their guidelines, nevertheless I feel strongly that MN posters are given a platform to critique this book, and also any other public ventures by this author. It would be neither fair nor right that posters are completely silenced in this particular matter.

As such, and in line with Mumsnet not seeing “anything wrong with honest feedback” I would like to make the comment that Coming Clean as a Memoir falls short due to the shaky and not entirely truthful narrative. There are certain facts contained within this memoir that are easily disprovable (for example, relating to the marital status of both author and her partner when they started their ill-fated affair), which leaves a massive question mark over the rest of the book. Is it entirely reasonable to make money from something that is promoted as truthful when it is, in fact, not entirely true?

I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work.

As long as posters align their comments with the MN guidelines, this is a topic that people may wish to keep discussing, and also keep in the public domain. And if MN wants to provide a set of rules particular to this thread – certainly if they are arbitrary and differ from the general guidelines - I am sure it would be very helpful.

Mumsnet, please help us to help each other by keeping in the public domain something that us silenced mums feel should be out there.

For a parenting expert she writes as though she doesn’t like parenting and finds it hard work.

Exactly!!!!!! Angry

She obviously really doesn't like parenting.

And the crumpled morning face - which is looking so smooth thanks to a filter GrinGrinGrin It's all "this is what you could be waking up to men....I am SINGLE you know..." Although with Liz, it wouldn't make a difference if she were single or not.

Lipstick and mascara applied.

I have @Marstonroadmrs' words in mind here from Tattle when she wrote that several of the Oxford mums at school thought Liz was Scout's grandmother.

She really doesn’t have a clue what it’s like to solo, single or any parent. She’s selfish, needy and a failure. She has brags about everything. Even abuse. Her abuse was worse than yours! Yeah. Of course it was.

Hands up all you battered women, widowed grievers, financially abused people, working parents, struggling to make ends meet who “enjoyed” a summer like Liz did 🤷

She is the worst of all abusers there are. She goads and pokes at us. Trying to make us feel unworthy. The unworthy one if the thieving, cheating, lying, abandoning, vicious tongued Liz Fraser.

Id prefer to stay living in poverty than to be Liz Fraser. She taken money from me and then blocked all forms of contact when I asked when the blogs would appear. Not even a “f”ck you loser.” She just blocked me.

Oh this is gonna hurt!

Raffington55 · 31/08/2023 11:34

Apols, should have just said 'apparently' about the school mums quote, not sure I quoted the correct person here 😊 #confused!

Who took the, “cor blimey, I’d just woken up and look how amazing I think I look in this not at all choreographed random snap,’ the same person who randomly snapped her matted hair during a business lunch?! Watch out Liz. There’s a lot of stalkers about with cameras.

Those PJs must be stealing for a hood wash by now 💨

Was there a reason for the 4 hour train journey to Austria or was it simply to scratch Liz’s can’t sit still itch? Scout, imagine a day just doing nothing. Bliss

Shortbread49 · 01/09/2023 09:24

The 13 minute film on the boat she ignored her daughter the whole time and all thr other passengers would have had to listen to her filming that

Roomonthedustpan · 01/09/2023 10:19

How low can you go Liz Fraser? Swigging from a bottle of wine while going through airport security with your 5 year old daughter 🤦‍♀️. No wonder the English have such a drunken reputation abroad. And you claim to be a travel writer 🤪

Self indulgent nonsense. She’s as annoying as the growing numbers of people who refuse to wear headphones on public transport so we have to listen to there banal conversations and music.

"sssshhh 💋 things"
Who even posts that on Insta?

So today she's been to the gym, had a swim, had a coffee, and then had a run. She's done some house work, some work, had sex and then an interview with the NY Times. Not for the NYT, but with.

Oh dear.

🤣🤣🤣 People who are actually having sex don't go on social media to tell people. She shoots herself in the foot every single time. Less is more. Less is more if you want to pretend things that are NOT happening in your life ARE happening. Poor Liz.

LibertyLily · 01/09/2023 22:26

And another crazed dancing reel...absolutely bonkers 🤣😂🤣

So clearly on a dating app. What possibly WILL go wrong? 😂

when she is dancing in the gym like a loon why is there never anyone else in there

I dunno, there's always at least one other person in my the changing room of the gym I go to. Sometimes that one other person is the cleaner....maybe she is the cleaner?

LynetteScavo · 02/09/2023 06:37

My last post wasn't just to be mean, it had crossed my mind previously when she did her manic dancing and had been mentioning a lack of funds.

RhinoRhino · 02/09/2023 07:36

@Shortbread49 I don't know about you, but if some random woman started dancing like a whirling dervish in front of the mirror in the gym changing rooms whilst I was pulling up my gym knickers I'd be slowly backing the hell out of there, along with everybody else. THAT's probably why there is never anybody there.😂

(I'd have to keep eyeballing her on my way out to check she wasn't suddenly going to fling her whirling self in my general direction, a bit like you have to keep an eye on certain people in city centres if you think there's a chance they might walk towards you and ask you if you have God in your life, or want to buy some genuine gold jewelry or whatever .....)

I think Liz also does the gym dancing and drinking posts in response to comments on here and on Tattle as a wind-up. She likes any attention, good or bad.

RhinoRhino · 02/09/2023 10:24

@Raffington55 Indeed. As others have said, she appears to be stuck in a child/teen phase of life, poss as the result of some sort of trauma/neglect. Not a mental health professional, so don't know whether she'll ever be able to move on from whatever it was that caused her to be this way, but in terms of the attention-seeking it serves a few purposes. It gives the Ade's and sausage-sellers of the internet a little thrill, it amuses the MN and TL ladies and it probably does absolutely nothing for Mike, as he has moved on with his life.

The only person it doesn't really help is Ms Fraser, as she never seems to get the satisfaction she craves, and she blunders from attention-seeking post to attention-seeking post, fooling only the lonely men and herself. And I'm not sure even the lonely men are that fooled, but they need to play the game in order the keep the photos/films coming ........

Videoing or photographing anything in a gym changing room (or exercise area) is inappropriate. Even if there's no-one there, posting on social media normalises filming in these public but private spaces. I hate it when people film/photograph themselves when I'm trying to work out. It's so intrusive. Plus twirling around in a little skirt to naff music is cringey.

RhinoRhino · 02/09/2023 12:12

@AppleBlossomTimeNow It's the sort of thing a 10-year-old would do.
