I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

First world problem .... I get photos printed regularly. I always wait for their special offer discounts to keep the price per print down. However, the minimum postage has gone up from £3.99 to £4.59.

MotherOfPuffling · 28/02/2023 19:52

Cat litter too! Was £6 for the cheap clumping, now it’s a smaller bag and £6. If I was making the decision now to have pets I don’t think I could justify the costs.

Usernamesonly · 28/02/2023 19:53

@Supersimkin2 £10.50 for some loo roll?!!! Is it gold tinted? 😂 I couldn't imagine spending that much, even if I won the lottery!

Baked beans £1.70 in our co-op!

Alpro soya is £2.50 from about £1.85.

And I saw a box of cornflakes for a FIVER.

paintingwithcampbells · 28/02/2023 19:54

We usually shop in Lidl but prices have increased here and there across the board, accounting for a large jump altogether, probably another £15-£20 a week for basic stuff, bread, milk, veg, cheese, etc. I need to take the time to compare receipts to a tesco shop because if it's nearly the same now we'll probably swap over for convenience sake and actually get everything we need in one go. I'm literally looking for a new job in order to better absorb grocery costs, which is maddening.

Perfect28 · 28/02/2023 19:54

Ugh this thread is depressing, as is shopping in this new landscape. Less choice, more expensive. Yay!

Floomobal · 28/02/2023 19:54

Kibble. £42 last time we bought it. 2 months later it’s £57 🫤

OnlyTheBravest · 28/02/2023 19:54

Whilst everything has risen in price. The ones I notice are
Bisto best (cough) at £4.

Also kitchen roll and toilet roll. Tried cheaper brands but have found that I end up using more than normal as it seems to disintegrate.

fairgame84 · 28/02/2023 19:54

I've found sainsbury's slightly cheaper than tesco at the minute.

Usernamesonly · 28/02/2023 19:55

@Dontknownow86 yes butter is what I actually forgot to add to my expensive list of when I was trying to make the chocolate cornflake buns! I ended up buying tesco own brand but I believe it was still around £2.40!

I think it’s been shown that Tesco is cheaper than ALDI and Lidl now?

Jamandcheesesandwich · 28/02/2023 19:58

tesco apple pie, used to be £1 now £1.80 so just not buying it anymore

have found a lot of times I look at the price and just dont buy.

had a £5 off if you spend £25 in Lidl yesterday, thought I would be at the about £25 mark with the one small basket and had emergency nip to bring it up to £25 at the till if need be, it came to £40

spending the same as before just not getting the same amount home with me

SwordToFlamethrower · 28/02/2023 19:59

Butter. Used to be a quid, now it is more than two quid!

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 28/02/2023 19:59

Cat food. Used to be able to buy 2 huge 80packs & have them come in at just enough to qualify for free home delivery so about £48ish.
£31 for ONE pack now. Praying the cats don't decide to become fussy like they did about 2 days after first lockdown when shelves were empty.
Milk £2.35 for 6 pints. Wasnt too long ago it was £1.50.
Condiments! Had to double check I was buying heinz not harrods ketchup

Fish is really expensive.

Swimming lessons have increased a lot due to the heating bills I suppose.

Off topic but my local leisure centre's sauna is quite regularly out of order now. I expect its fine and it just costs a lot to run (I like a sauna after a swim)

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 28/02/2023 20:02

Cat litter too although that seems to be almost impossible to get recently,

IrishSee · 28/02/2023 20:02

12kg bag of dog biscuits used to be around £55 using amazon's subscribe and save. It's now £66ish, or £72 a bag without the subscribe option. Cat food and litter has really jumped in price too.

Local swimming pool used to offer kids inflatable sessions at the weekend, £4 per child for an hour. It's now just gone up to £4.50 for 50 minutes, and the pool water is so much colder than it used to be. At least they still have decent hot showers and hairdryers, so we'll still use it.

User473831 · 28/02/2023 20:04

Cordial, I’m funny about sweetners so always buy full sugar cordial, it’s now £4.50 a bottle, I’m sure it was £2.95 before Christmas.

cazinge · 28/02/2023 20:04

@Jamandcheesesandwich This was me in Lidl today...ours came to £38 something and I can't even tell you what I've bought, certainly not a meal for the 4 of us just some fruit & veg, 7 pack of ham, some crisps (not an essential I know), a couple of own brand pasta n sauce packets for a cheap lunch (49p each) and 8 cans of caffeine free diet coke which were £3.75. I was thinking I'd just buy a cheap bottle of wine if I didn't hit £25, nearly fell over when he said £33 after the £5 came off 😮

Lulu1919 · 28/02/2023 20:06

Butter....well Lurpak

Lulu1919 · 28/02/2023 20:07

Yes...olive oil seems to have shot up !!!

TryingHard1990 · 28/02/2023 20:11

12 pouches of cat food in Tesco (own brand.) £2.25 to £3.60 now I think.

Sorry, that cat food is now £3.90. It’s gone up again!

VerbenaGirl · 28/02/2023 20:17

Cat medicine from vet.
