I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

Not exactly a staple but Tesco own brand sweets (fizzy laces, cola bottles, strawberry pencils, foam bananas, that sort of thing) used to be 3 bags for £1 or 40p a bag. I noticed they were 70p a bag yesterday. You're not telling me that's a necessary price increase even with HFSS. The supermarkets are taking the piss with some of these prices.

MariaDingbat · 28/02/2023 20:37

All the £1 bars of chocolate are now £1.25 too. It's just a small treat but it's still frustrating.

JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain · 28/02/2023 20:37

Asda's own brand fat free yoghurt, gone up from 85p to £1.45, a rise of 70%.

Deedippy · 28/02/2023 20:38

Cadbury chocolate mini rolls. I'm sure they always used to be on special for £1 but today in Tesco they were £3.25 😲😲😲

alltoomuchrightnow · 28/02/2023 20:38

Cat treats.. the little freeze dried chicken or duck breast cubes... priced ok in Wilkos but usually sold out. Won't buy from supermarkets anymore as now about £1.70 a pack! I don't spend that on my treats! (what treats). Aldi has started doing them. Smaller size but ok for His Furship.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 28/02/2023 20:38

@Skodacool I'm gonna give Aldi coffee a try this weekend!

CornishGem1975 · 28/02/2023 20:38

Hot Wheels Cars. Nuts but we buy them often. Was £1.25 at Sainsburys now £2.50. That's a big increase percentage-wise!

Baked beans! Marks is the place to pick them up now at 50p a tin and just as nice as Heinz

Agree with Heinz beans, can't believe their thinking and notice they've started advertising on the underground so they must be seeing a fall in sales. Thanks for the reminder about M&S beans, I've been trialling own brands as refuse to pay £1.50 for a tin of beans and would say Sainsbury's currently the worst but not found a clear winner.

ShandaLear · 28/02/2023 20:40

We should just be grateful we can’t buy salad anymore, because that stuff would cost an arm and a leg if it was available. Sainsbury’s this afternoon - they’re not even trying to spread it out so it looks fuller anymore. Literally nothing.

Pukka herbal tea now £4 for a box of 20 they used to be £2.50

Mum2jenny · 28/02/2023 20:40

£2.90 for a Sainsbury’s taste the difference free from multiseeded sourdough cob aka a loaf of bread my visiting relative can eat

Oh and have you tried them? They're half the length!!! About the length of my little finger now.

AnnieMore · 28/02/2023 20:42

We took our 2 sons to pizza express and it was over £150. I’m sure that used to be a cheap night out.

Chocmarblecake · 28/02/2023 20:42

Oat milk (Alpro)....was £1.30-40 now £1.95-2.10!

Sallylovesdaisy · 28/02/2023 20:43

Butter! £2 everywhere, then I spotted it for £1.49 in Home Bargains, so picked up 4 to go in freezer. And almost everything has gone up by chunks of money..no more penny increases! It's shocking, and so worrying. Where will it end?

@Ricco12 im shocked at the increase for a hash brown, especially from such a big firm! There's a small cafe around the corner from me that sells them for 50p! X

They say you can base a countries economy on a McD

Go to a restaurant and the cost is comparable to how expensive the country is

That's a 39% increase

I hope it's not a sign of things to come

colette1970 · 28/02/2023 20:44

L’OR coffee was £4.50 in Tesco now £8.50 in my local Tesco went. B and M today selling at £3.49 for same size jar so stocked up with 3 jars .

Beachcomber74 · 28/02/2023 20:47

£2.95 for Choc Orange in Co Op they were a £1 last year
£3.30 for frozen sweet potato fries
so brought a few sweet potatoes and made them myself but kids wouldn’t eat them!! All the more for me!

Theunamedcat · 28/02/2023 20:49

Cat food I've ended up with three cats for various reasons but its expensive and my one cat has a special diet so extra expensive

TheYearOfSmallThings · 28/02/2023 20:51

Salmon is the thing I just can't bring myself to buy anymore. It's nice, but not a necessity, and every week I look at the price and decide to do frittata instead.

Anjo2011 · 28/02/2023 20:52

Plenty Kitchen roll, 2 rolls £5.25 in Tesco. That’s obscene.

Lemonademoney · 28/02/2023 20:53

WTF1974 · 28/02/2023 20:48

£1.70 a tin yesterday in The Range 😳

Honestly try the M&S version… 65p a tin and I think I prefer it

That's true. 11 years ago I went to Oslo for a weekend, Maccies was the cheapest place to eat but even then a regular Big Mac meal was the equivalent of 12 quid! 😮

Fifi0102 · 28/02/2023 20:57

Everything I've noticed it's stabilising a bit. I used to throw whatever I wanted in the trolley at Lidl. I got the shock of my life when the bill said £130. I'm doing half and half. Half ocado half farmfoods/Lidl.
