I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

Hash brown McDonald's

Was 99p

Now

£1.39

BlackCatTabbyCat · 28/02/2023 19:39

Milk. £1.65 for 4 pints. I keep ordering 2 pints by accident as thats £1.30 and I'm so used to 4 pints being £1 so as soon as I see £1.30 I assume it's for 4.

Cat food
Butter
Bread

Aldi prices have jumped up like crazy I used to be Aldi loyal but mid January I swapped to Tesco.

BlackCatTabbyCat · 28/02/2023 19:40

Oh and normal sized chocolate bars are all around 90p now.

Fluffleupagus · 28/02/2023 19:40

Oxo cubes. 2poundsfucking40 for 12 in Tesco! I genuinely thought they had the shelf labelling wrong. 2 quid with a club card but they used to be about 1.25 ish.

I did almost actually cry, not because I couldn't afford to get them, it just felt like it encapsulated the dire state of everything right now.

mafsfan · 28/02/2023 19:36

Total yogurt.

£5.50 for the 1kg pot!!!

Only the pot has shrunk to 950g, so it’s even worse!

mafsfan · 28/02/2023 19:42

@Jumprope309 Bastards!!

JanuaryBirthdays · 28/02/2023 19:43

Coffee mate used to be £3.65 in it co-op, now £5.65. Did not buy.

OldTinHat · 28/02/2023 19:43

@Usernamesonly I was shocked too! £10 for three small plates and now £15! Also the unlimited hot drinks at Spoons have shot up in price.

iloveyankeecandle · 28/02/2023 19:43

Aldis own version of clover butter was 99p not too long ago and is now £1.29. I looked at buying normal clover but that was £2!

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 28/02/2023 19:13

You must be joking about not noticing Aldi price increases. Some things are so expensive in there now. Waitrose is actually cheaper on some items at the moment! I was truly shocked in Aldi.

I was thinking that. Our Aldi shop has jumped right up 💰 💰 I’d estimate 15-25% more whenever we do a shop.

mommatoone · 28/02/2023 19:43

Too many to mention😭. Ive also noticed that supermarket own branded stuff (which i udsed to always buy) is not much cheaper than branded stuff now.

OneCup · 28/02/2023 19:44

Fish is really expensive.

Swimming lessons have increased a lot due to the heating bills I suppose.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/02/2023 19:44

Bisto best gravy £4.Fuck off.

OneCup · 28/02/2023 19:45

Oh and prices staying the same but sizes getting smaller...

Usernamesonly · 28/02/2023 19:45

@Ricco12 im shocked at the increase for a hash brown, especially from such a big firm! There's a small cafe around the corner from me that sells them for 50p! X

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/02/2023 19:45

@VictoriaBun m&s soup is only 65p a can and the tomato is the best I've tried much better than heinz

Santasjingleballs · 28/02/2023 19:48

Cat litter

Precipice · 28/02/2023 19:48

UHT semi-skimmed milk in Lidl. 1L for 0.37 this time last year, then steadily creeping through 0.54 and 0.73 or so to its current price of 0.95! I don't use much milk and this keeps absolutely ages after you open it, despite what the packaging says. It'll pass over the pound barrier soon.

Dontknownow86 · 28/02/2023 19:15

A basic block of butter. You struggle to get one for £2 now even buying the basic own brand. Used to be able to get it for about £1.30 so a massive increase percentage wise.

I bought one from Aldi earlier at £1.99 and thought that was expensive!

JarByTheDoor · 28/02/2023 19:49

Nearly died at these.

Kitchen roll. Can’t get it for less than £1 a roll and am using a roll a day due to elderly incontinent cat (thank goodness for hard floors at least!).
Cat food - have switched from the fancy to the cheap and that now costs what the fancy used to…
Butter. Used to get it £2 full price but usually £1.25/£1.50 on a multi buy. £3 now.
Olive oil. Thank goodness stocked up when saw prices were going to rise as has basically doubled 😩
My fancy sugar-free, dairy-free ‘chocolate’ has gone from £2.20 a bar (but always got on offer at £1.65 ish) to £3.30 a bar! For a flipping 90g bar! Luckily I only have a tiny bit as not supposed to have caffeine but dear Lord it’s expensive..

I could go on. I mostly shop online due to mobility issues and what was costing me £50 a week a year ago is now about £80-£85 a week, and that’s after switching to cheaper alternatives on several things.

Usernamesonly · 28/02/2023 19:50

I thought me and my son would make the chocolate cornflake buns after school as a treat. Popped into co-op for ingredients, was gobsmacked!

£3 for a box of cornflakes
£1.60 (cheapest bar or chocolate, needed two)
£2 for some paper bun casing
£1.90 for a bag of mini eggs

safe to say I went to Tesco instead, I was shocked!

Supersimkin2 · 28/02/2023 19:51

Loo roll in Tesco £10.50.

Aldi still £2 for same, luckily.

Wexone · 28/02/2023 19:51

in my local super value (Ireland) 14e for a 6 pack of pedigree chum. nearly fell through the floor.
5.70e for a box of frosties they were only 4e over a year ago.
treated myslef to 2 jambons in our local centra today 5e for 2. remember when they were a euro

Usernamesonly · 28/02/2023 19:51

@halfsiesonapotnoodle @TickledCrimson I suppose I don't pay as much attention to the prices in Aldi as always buy their own branded stuff and assume it doesn't get much cheaper than that. I have seen a few posts about the yellow brands at Asda and was considering trying that!

I used to shop at Lidl but it's so much more expensive than aldi!
