How much do you spend on takeaway/delivery each month?

Hi

My mum and dad would usually get a takeaway each weekend like chinese or Indian food when I was growing up. Im now married and thinking to myself what is the average for a monthly spend on takeaways?? One on a Saturday night... a mcdonalds in the week... is that normal? Say every Saturday night to order pizza, Chinese or Indian so around £20-25. My husband doesn’t like the idea of ordering food for delivery obviously it’s a lot more money and it’s normally bad for you etc.. I just think of it as a normal thing that most households do a minimum of once a week! Especially if you can afford it and at the end of a hard working week fancy a treat! Tell me your weekly or monthly takeaway amount 😀😀

We really go through phases - sometimes it will be one a week & other times it will be every two - three months.

Only two of us so normally £25-30 max.

Since we moved to this house in November, I think we’ve had pizza twice (one on the day of the move because fridge wasn’t switched on etc) and Chinese once. Neither of us grew up in households where getting a takeaway was a regular occurrence so we are both a bit uptight about having one if it isn’t a special occasion! We don’t go out to eat much either, again when I was growing up it was special occasions only.

silentpool · 31/08/2020 19:00

I get the odd wrap from Pret but no take away otherwise. I keep those Spice Tailor curry kits in the house so when I want a curry, I can make one pretty fast for £2.99 😁

TellYourCatISaidHi · 31/08/2020 19:04

Maybe twice a month, so about £40 per month. Mostly just DH and I, as the DC don’t like Indian or Chinese - they’ll have some pizza though. DH used to be a big takeaway coffee fan but isn’t as bothered now, he makes his own fancy coffee at home.

katy1213 · 31/08/2020 19:10

Maybe once every six months; they're not that nice around here. Takeaway McDonalds sounds truly horrible; bad enough when it's fresh.

AdoraBell · 23/09/2020 20:53

Hardly ever get a takeaway, maybe 5/6 times a year.

I love Chinese food and our closest is really good but it costs about £35-40 to feed 4. I can’t face spending that much for a meal we eat at home.

VirginiaWolverine · 23/09/2020 21:10

Probably around 4 times a year. We used to have takeaway once a week before we had kids, but once they were old enough to eat with us takeaway was too salty and we lost the habit, so now it's a pretty rare occurrence.

LyingDogsLie1 · 23/09/2020 21:11

We probably spend £30 a quarter. We rarely have takeaways.

ComicePear · 23/09/2020 21:16

We don't have takeaway very often. We had it once a week in lockdown (because there wasn't much else to look forward to!) but usually it would be once every month or two. But I completely agree with you that it's fair for you have your treat if your husband has Costa coffees and cigarettes!

Glittergoblin · 21/11/2020 08:26

We have 1 a week too, I did think this was quite normal. Don't pay anything like the prices on here though, maybe around £15 for Chinese or Indian so around £60-70 per month.

Bumble84 · 21/11/2020 08:32

I’m generally quite surprised how many takeaways people get. Me and DH maybe get one every few months. I don’t really see the appeal and if it wasn’t for him I probably wouldn’t bother at all. I’d much rather go out for a meal in a restaurant.

Chickydoo · 21/11/2020 17:05

Maybe 5 or 6 a year max.
That would be either fish & chips , a curry or Chinese.

IntoP20 · 21/11/2020 17:08

One a week. We’ll typically always order on a Fri, Sat or Sun every week. Probably at about £20/25 a pop? Money well spent in my eyes, one of life’s great pleasures!

happytoday73 · 21/11/2020 17:20

We've had more takeaways this year than ever. Mainly because lockdown doesn't allow us meals out & can't have extended family meals or BBQs.
Normally max of once a month/every 6 weeks Chinese, Greek or Indian. Very rare mcd or KFC.... Normally only if travelling.

These days it's Sunday lunch, meze boxes etc to support local restaurants.

OverTheRainbow88 · 21/11/2020 17:21

£0!!

SewingBeeAddict · 21/11/2020 17:24

We always have either a Chinese/Indian takeaway or F&C on payday weekend so once a month.
£25 takeaway for 3
£11 F&C

I wouldnt want it every week.

Clearasmuddypuddles · 21/11/2020 17:25

£0! No-one delivers to our village.

Thecherryontheverytop · 21/11/2020 17:26

Usually once a week for 5 of us but recently less than that. I dont like to eat out but i like to eat well. I have a lot of fresh vegetables and fish. We do meal preps as both adults go to the gym 6x a week. Bit boring at times but the less I have takeout, the less I crave it.

chunkyrun · 21/11/2020 17:26

I budget £50 a month for eating out, coffees out, takeaway etc

Tenyearsgone · 21/11/2020 17:28

Most Saturday nights.

delilahbucket · 21/11/2020 17:46

It uses to be once every 2-3 weeks and around £30 since DS has started eating bigger portions and I can't share with him anymore. These days it's every week at least once if not twice, between £15-45 as we are supporting local restaurants, so not your average greasy takeaway, which incidentally we've gone off completely. I used to love a Chinese takeaway but ours shut last lockdown and we cook it much nicer at home, for half the cost and fat content.

Zzz1234 · 21/11/2020 17:56

Once week £25-40, if TH is working away and I'm going to be home parents we have a pizza or mcd's- hadn't been happening recently as I have been wfh.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/11/2020 14:57

If we do it’s about £20 for the two of us. I do rice at home for me because I’m tight.

I’ve got two books by kenny McGovern on takeaway recipes & they don’t make me feel sluggish the next day.

Tm is piri piri turkey cooked on the cast iron griddle & suffed into pittas with sriracha sauce.
