Morning all. I need to drag myself out of bed.

Spends today £40 haircut. Also need to buy conditioner and will probably have to buy a cuppa etc when I pick ds up later.

Flappyjack · 25/08/2018 10:30

Phew - tired today. No idea why and I have to re-wash my hair. That greasy nit treatment stuff is a nightmare to get out.

Food shopping done £49.57 and should last until Wednesday...in theory. I'm trying out a new moroccan chicken meal with harrisa, couscous, chickpeas and apricots. Also making apple and blackberry crumble with ice cream today.

Off to Post Office soon...just want to lie down and read a book.

take I enjoy a good cathedral too. Last one had a coffee shop and we sat in the garden listening to the choir practice. It was very peaceful.

ChristmasSeacow · 25/08/2018 10:51

Durham cathedral really impressed me. I like Norman architecture.

I can’t remember all my lost post but I did congratulate UnescortedDD on the great results. Isn’t she the fantastic artist?

I have a million things to do and have just discovered weevils in my SR flour. I get through bags of the stuff every month so am surprised and rather annoyeed they’ve appeared... I have all my flours in separate sealed containers in the same cupboard but even if I check all the others and they look okay I think I might want to chuck them all and start again 🤢🤢🤢 - would you?

I must be more disciplined about freezing flour which means decluttering the disgraceful freezer

ChristmasSeacow · 25/08/2018 10:53

And I guess I need to bleach the containers too?

LonelyOversharer · 25/08/2018 11:00

seacow just chuck the weevils. I'd even keep the plastic box! But I think my standards are a bit lax. I was printing "durham 3" yesterday, thats the full rose window, done in a 2.5" round. They are hideous to paint. Bet you're so glad to be home.

Been to the tip with 1/2 a little car full. £15 fuel (mega expensive at yokel station, will fill up at tescos later), and £7 sainsburys on milk and pastries for brekkie.

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/08/2018 11:00

Which cathedral are you at take?

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/08/2018 11:05

I love Durham and it's on my doorstep. (Next town along beginning with D too).

Well done unescorted dd.

If they are all in sealed tubs then just get rid of the flour affected and YY scald the tub. I never freeze flour. Had weevis twice. However recently Aldi SR flour had smelt sour after a while. Will go back to Sainsbury's for a bit

Wolfcub · 25/08/2018 11:08

Christmas i’d have to chuck all the flours and i’d Clean the boxes with scalding water. The other containers are so unlikely to be affected but the thought in my head would do it for me

Wolfcub · 25/08/2018 11:11

I forgot to add yesterday that Lidl pistachio magnums are lush

ChristmasSeacow · 25/08/2018 11:12

I’m definitely keeping the containers, I have these in various sizes for all my dry goods (flours, pastas, lentils etc) and they are brillliant

sistemaplastics.com/products/bake-it/2.4l-bakery-with-cup

I used to have glass jars but they were so heavy when filled and mostly didn’t hold enough. And they are in a cupboard so their relative beauty was wasted anyway. These come in every size imaginable and I love them

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 25/08/2018 11:14

I'd just chuck the flour as well and then bleach the container, it's likely the flour had the weevils in when you bought it 😷

I'm still laid up, have managed a shower and am back on my bed again.

Lovely pic slow

Wolfcub · 25/08/2018 11:18

Girlie that’s not good, do you have someone to help you out?

Bornlazy · 25/08/2018 11:25

Sea the first time I had weevils they were in a bag of lentils and I just quickly threw them in the bin as I was mega busy ( think it was Christmas time) fast forward a few weeks and they were in everything in my cupboard 😱 I ended up chucking almost everything. Your containers look as if they are sealed tight so you might be ok, as I think my were just pegged closed.

ChristmasSeacow · 25/08/2018 11:46

If I chuck out everything in the cupboard it will be a lot of food - it’s my big corner cupboard with literally all my baking and non-tinned dry goods in. What I think I’ll do is:

  • Chuck out anything not in a sealed container (there are a few half packets of pasta in random shapes, some 00 flour that I hadn’t bought a container for yet etc)
  • check each container
  • chuck out the contents and bleach and scald anything that had weevils in
  • start freezing flour again
  • check all containers weekly for a few weeks and repeat the above

I think even chucking out the flour requires care as the flour and eggs can disperse in the air. I might do it straight into the outside bin.

Unescorted · 25/08/2018 11:55

wolf that bread is soooooooo good!.

Girlie are you able to take time off work just to rest up?

I hate weevils. Plastic storage all the way here. Sea I would throw the invested flour and wash the container in the dishwasher.

I don't have separate SR flour - I add bicarb/ baking powder as required. It means the turnover of flour is faster and they only take up half the space.

TakeItSlow · 25/08/2018 12:39

It's Ely Cathedral Life. Very nice and peaceful after the frantic pace of normal life.

Cagliostro · 25/08/2018 12:43

Oh noooo at the weevils just after we were discussing them as well 😱😰😷 are they little black bugs that you can see? (I am not googling!) When we start baking I will definitely get some nice storage tubs.

Totally agree jam about the going away to uni, I will miss my DCs of course but independence and self sufficiency (as in looking after themselves not the Good Life way :o) is the aim. I’m not entirely sure how mine will manage, with the ASD and learning issues, but it’s still my job to help them fly the nest. Besides, with technology now it’s ridiculously easy to keep in touch, we had video tours of DSD’s uni accommodation and all sorts via FaceTime, it’s not like you have to go weeks without seeing them.

Glad you are taking some time off girlie Xx

NSD for me, was going to head into town to get DS’ birthday presents (got a couple but I’ve been so disorganised) but feeling sick and headachy. Frugal lunch of leftover buffet food from yesterday’s family game night, as a couple couldn’t make it so we had too much. Will do for dinner too which is good as I don’t feel up to cooking. We had a great evening though.

I want to start watching Unforgotten now that I have access to the internet! So may just curl up and do that in between laundry. Possibly I’ll order a few house bits online. Maybe.

Cagliostro · 25/08/2018 12:52

I love cathedrals too. All places of worship really. I am absolutely atheist but I just marvel at them and love walking round them or just sitting in the peace. Actually we are going to be starting more formal religious studies with the Caglets now, and I’d like to arrange some trips to various temples etc.

Wreck does the shop you work in do online ordering/have a website?

Oh bum I just realised I will also spend on a couple of Usborne books. Friend doing a sale, I have a credit note anyway but want the chemistry ones for DS and stuff.

Thank you for that recipe unescorted and well done to DD!

I’m thinking of getting the EWFL cookbooks from the library, I know a lot of it will be too basic, but I did like the look of some of the stuff they were doing. Have I missed more episodes, they only have up to 4 on iplayer, the last was the family in wales where both parents were ministers? And they switched from bottled water to Bobble Bottles?

WreckTangled · 25/08/2018 13:05

Not usually cag are you after something?

Bornlazy · 25/08/2018 13:14

Think that sounds sensible sea. I ended up moving my flour into another cupboard as the one I previously used backed onto a wall that was warm due to having a radiator on the other side. Cag DO NOT GOOGLE you will be horrified by some of the stories on there 🤢

ChristmasSeacow · 25/08/2018 13:20

I think the EWFL recipes from the programmes are on the bbc website Cag

Girlie Flowers

House is a tip and my mum and DSis are looking after the DCs tomorrow while we attend that christening. We are getting the train - more expensive but sick to death of the car! Anyway, must tidy up.

Sone of you may remember I had a leak in my garage a few months back, which recurred just before our holiday... well, the plumber fixed the source while we were away once and for all (invoice pending Hmm) but there was standing water in the garage that we weren’t here to clear out. I now need to go and take everything it and swill the whole place out with bleach. Again. I hope there are not flies breeding. There is a definite musty smell in the adjacent areas of the house... such a lovely welcome home! And I have to cook for us all tonight as there’s nothing suitable in the freezer for a short cut. And must go to get Tu click and collect and to buy some groceries (fruit, replacement flour etc). Better get on...

QuitelovesStrictly · 25/08/2018 13:21

Its wierd EWFL seems to go on and off ?
4 episodes this time.
Ugh Masterchef -its sooooo dull

Cagliostro · 25/08/2018 13:27

Oh that’s true I haven’t looked at the website. I think the Caglets would enjoy making something they’d seen on the telly! And yay masterchef is back although I don’t like the sleb one so much.

Oh noooo at the water seacow that’s all you need 😡

Just generally thinking ahead for Christmas and Cagletini’s birthday really Wreck and you said they have lots of naice wooden toys so sounds like the right place to look! I am guessing it’s somewhere I could get to by train (in a non stalkery way 🤔😳) but not sure I have the energy to go, well, anywhere ATM!

WreckTangled · 25/08/2018 13:33

No train station here I'm afraid, you'd have to get a train and then a bus which would be a pita. I'll give you a list of some of my favourites though so you can amazon them!

Cagliostro · 25/08/2018 13:35

Ooh that’d be really helpful thank you. Am thinking 12m or 18m+ type age range 😀💐
