I never knew that badder just assumed that it would be the most expensive at a site.

KateSpade · 03/07/2016 07:58

The sad fact is babs is that me & dd still live with my parents, so no bills to pay apart from gym, direct debit & loan/car!
I've just got myself into a bit of a mess!

Swimming yesterday which was free!

Hoping today will be a low spend day, depending what the weather is like. I'm hoping to go to the park & maybe take some food.

babsmam · 03/07/2016 08:05

It's OK Kate. Sorry if upset you. I'm a comfort spender and a bit of an ostrich. I found keeping a meticulous spending diary for a month really helped, as well as having to fess up here each day.

Badders123 · 03/07/2016 08:15

Yep!
We get a family membership for £74 at site! (At least we did the last 2 years)

Badders123 · 03/07/2016 08:18

Kate...emotional spending is a really tricky thing to a) admit and b) stop
You've already admitted it, so I agree that a spending diary might help you see not only what you ar spending but also when
For example, I'm peri menopausal with all the joys that brings! and I have noticed a real spike in coffees/cakes/comfort buying around the week before I am due.
I am more Aware of it now, and am trying very hard not to buy stuff just because I feel low.
and don't beat yourself up...you are taking control now. That's what matters.

Ememem84 · 03/07/2016 08:26

Raining here again. So much for summer.

Today I was meant to be washing the car. But may wait to see what the weather does.

We have about £130 left in our joint account. Mortgage and the big bills have all come out. So just food to the end of the month and maybe parking to deal with.

Have eBay listings starting this evening. Hopefully I'll make a bit of cash.

Have managed to lose one of my travel sickness bands. So will either need to find or replace. Accupuncture lady suggested wearing them while travelling to help with anxiety. I'm off to London again on 14th for work.

Only a 4 and half day week this week for me. Friday afternoon off. Yippee!

Badders123 · 03/07/2016 08:31

2 weeks left for me!
I only work (very) pt due to Dhs job and the DC but God, I'm ready to break up now!

DontLetMeLetYouGo · 03/07/2016 08:32

I've just finished my first night shift. It was lovely. I worked with a lovely team which made the night so much better!!

I'm very tired now though. I didn't manage to get a nap yesterday afternoon. And I need to wait for the district nurse to come this morning before I can pop off to sleep. I'm not quite sure how I'll manage that one.

I had a crazy few spends last night at the Co op. £11.39. I stocked up on snacks for the night and other bits to keep me going. Our local Co op is do expensive it's untrue.

ItalianWiking84 · 03/07/2016 09:41

Should be nsd today. Going to my cousin later to meet his new baby girl. Hope they like the present Smile

Noodlebrains · 03/07/2016 09:46

DH spent €58 on painting supplies yesterday. We were painting the living room. But he spent it from the joint account, not his account which throws things off.
The joint account is for weekly/ monthly spends (like electricity, groceries, telephone) and a small amount of personal spending (like lunch or a newspaper or coffee)
DH account is his savings account and house/garden spends
My account is the main saving account for holidays and days out. We have a Disney holiday happening next year so being strict.

We can both use our personal accounts for bigger personal spends as well. Might sound complicated but it works for us - it's all our money at the end of the day.

Badders123 · 03/07/2016 09:50

I have a new neice/nephew arriving soon Smile
Forgot that I got 3 tins of paint "free"
Ordered online and they all arrived damaged still used them though Smile
And sil gave me the blue paint so no £ spent on paint at all Smile
Must try not to comfort sorbs this week with dh being away
I will stay home and clean instead Confused

Canklesofglitter · 03/07/2016 10:15

Went to an outdoor theatre show yesterday. Paid for the tickets months ago so just cost petrol and a picnic. Was a bit annoyed with DH as he forgot I had done a flask and went and bought two coffeesHmm.

Expecting a NSD today. We're going to a bring snd share lunch but I am making a sausage, sage and apple plait and I have a lemon yogurt cake in the freezer so we are covered for that. Will need to buy salad items tomorrow.

I am expecting to be going for other jobs soon so I was looking for smart tops. Had a bargain find in a local department store on Friday - three Jaegar tops reduced from £49 each to £8 or £9 each. Got three for £26. I already have some smart trousers abd have lots if snart shoes from.when i worked outsude home before (work FT but from home at the moment) so I am sorted now.

AdoraBell · 03/07/2016 10:32

Kate, exactly what Badders said. I'm an emotional eater and the same rules apply, if I'm over stressed or angry I could blow the month's grocery budget on chocolate. But you've taken the all important first step in recognizing it, well done.

I may, or may not, buy holiday supplies today.

Ememem84 · 03/07/2016 11:09

Off to the car boot sale. I want some more Kilner type jars for my kitchen (have this dream of having everything stored in lovely glass jars all different sizes). But they are expensive.

So. Hoping that someone's getting rid.

Badders that's a great tip re NT.. I was going to buy DH a membership for Christmas last year but other materialistic presents were bought instead I may look later in the year for this years present.

Today was meant to be a NSD until I flipped the calendar to July this morning and remembered if my nieces birthday on Friday!!! Cue a walk into town this morning (frugal win!)... So spends today -

£5.99 in Sainsburys (£3.99 on adult summer colouring book for niece and £2 on Cadbury flakes to go with ice cream)

£2.19 in Wilkos on colouring pencils and a sharpener to go with present

£2.09 in card factory on birthday cards and wrapping paper / tag

£2.38 in Lidl for crusty roll and baguette for tea/doughnut peaches/breakfast biscuits/oven chips

Back home now, just washed up and preparing lunch. We're having homemade chicken and mushroom pie with mash, boiled potatos and veg. Love making pastry and pies etc. I can't wait until we move house, we currently live in a two up, two down and don't have space to have family or friends over but when we move we'll have lots more space so in planning lots of lovely dinner parties. Can't wait!

Put some washing on early this morning so hope it doesn't rain!

Happy Sunday everyone Smile

Badders123 · 03/07/2016 11:36

It's worked for us the last 2 years...we generally join in our hols wherever we may be :)
I have NO spare £ this month now :(
I'm really really hoping to not use my overdraft this month...that's my goal.
I have £10 in my purse (hoping no more petrol needed til end of month)
About £30 in my account til end of month after my direct debits go out...but I want to draw £20 out to take on hols...gah

Badders123 · 03/07/2016 11:41

New baby gifts already bought and sent (we are on hols when baby is due)
Got a b day in August but usually send a gift card (£20)
Then fil and ds2 in sept so that'll be spendy.
Teacher gifts bought (in cath kidston sale :)) and wrapped
We have a meal booked for first night of hols and will go out for fish and chips too :) but taking lots of food with us to keep costs down.
Rest of decorating will be done over the summer...can't wait til it's all done!

Car boot sale was no good. no one (not even the sellers) seemed at all bothered by it. i guess its the weather.

Star2015 · 03/07/2016 12:10

Ememem I'd happily cook for all of you, you just wouldn't fit in my house Blush

Sorry you haven't had luck at the car boot.

Have a good day!

8FencingWire · 03/07/2016 12:32

I haven't left the bed, so NSDGrin
em, I bought mine really cheap from Ikea

WreckTangled · 03/07/2016 12:35

I got mine from ikea too I suppose they don't deliver to you em?

Star we're in a two up two down too. I hate it but am grateful to have it (HA)

Ememem84 · 03/07/2016 12:58

wreck 8 ikea do deliver here. Sort of. I have to order things to Southampton docks. Then another company pick up and deliver here. There is a charge for it (minimum £30). So it only usually makes sense to pay it when ordering a huge amount.

We usually save ikea for when we go to the uk with the car or to France. There's a huge one in Rennes.

We've been talking about money. Dh has done the maths. He thinks if we concentrate we can save £40k by the end of the year.

Challenge accepted.

Babs I think most children wear dark trainers to school now - definitely more frugal the way their feet grow!

I have ticked another job off my July frugal list - research and make a list of cheap/free days out.

They include;
Rainy day options: 2x local free city museums; kids club cinema; ikea crèche, cafe and crafts; garden centre with animals/play area; Cardiff museums etc.
Dry day options: various local play areas and walks with picnic; St Fagan's; Big Pit; exploring cycle networks; drive to sandy beach for sand castles.
These days out will inevitably incur some parking/toll/cup of tea costs but it's a start!

Hoping that the rest of the day will continue to be NSD.
