Just transferred Christmas present budget to my current account, let the fun begin!

Have decided on a farm set for dd, tractor & trailer for ds, set of wooden musical instruments between them, a tent for their new playroom, frozen duvet set for dd & DVD & books for her stocking so far. Must pay my portion of present for my parents. Have duvet sets for all dhs grandchildren sitting in basket online waiting to find out what oldest boy would like & that's done too. They're also getting book tokens which I got from shop and scan & will buy hoodies or something similar also.

Once those things are purchased will work out what's left & who is left!

Pay day today. ...just paid cc and something towards a John Lewis interest free purchase. .. £440 left "all" for me....sounds a lot but I have a lot to squeeze out of it (and my professional fees of £211 to pay eventually! )

SpottyTeacakes · 26/11/2014 09:03

I got paid £50 more than I was expecting Confused

We didn't either. We had a crap Christmas. I had to abandon my car on Christmas Eve due to the floods, managed to get home where we had a powercut for 24 hours. We live in the middle of nowhere and couldn't even go out for dinner as we didn't have a car! Dh managed to pick up take away in his van but it ruined our Christmas Eve!

sportinguista · 26/11/2014 10:06

LSD today £1.48 for milk to last into the weekend.

I'm not feeling particularly Christmassy at the moment, I don't think I will until we have the tree up and we have a few things settled financially and also workwise.

But I am going to try and make things nice for DS even with the lack of cash. We're going to make his entry for the christmas card comp at school which will be fun.

I want this to be a frugal christmas but one to remember for reasons other than who got what and how much it cost. Some of the loveliest memories are of long walks with my mum to collect holly and braken and stuff to make decorations - my mum was poncetastic on a budget I realise - beautiful stuff that cost pence! Smile

Congratulations East Flowers and plenty of Cake and Brew for you too!

sportinguista · 26/11/2014 12:15

collie That advent calendar sounds wonderful, I have got a cheap chocolate one but the idea of an activity each day sounds brill. I've got some card and lots of paint etc so could make it pretty easy.

I'm going to see what christmas films I can download I bet there are some old ones but good ones I've forgotten. I think a walk to see the lights will be good also and the baking of course.

I've got loads of body shop christmas burning oil that I've overstocked on (hence why I am probably now in debt Grin) so have been burning a little each day. One thing I always do is something my mum always did was make cloved oranges. I get a big bag of cloves from indian shop (this has lasted 3 years now) and some cheap oranges and a bit of old ribbon (left over gift ribbon or recycled is good) tie it round the orange parcel fashion then stick the cloves in making a sort of pattern as you go. This lasts hung up for most of christmas and smells delicious. I also put a handfull of cloves in old pot pourri to freshen it and give the christmas smell!

Going to now have a look at that advent calendar thread for some ideas...Smile
