Checking in for my first frugal month. I'll record all spendings for the first time in my life.

Plan for this month is to switch my mobile phone to giffgaff and to see if there are any cheaper deals for our home insurance and landline/internet.

Food budget is £200 for the month and otherwise I'll just spend as little as possible. I want to finish my Christmas Shopping as we're away for a couple of weeks at the start of December.

I've not been very frugal today. Spent £3.95 on a takeaway coffee and breakfast roll. Another £1.35 on a uni assignment I had to post this morning. Hence the breakfast out of the house. I was busy finishing the assignment this morning and then rushed out to the post office all hungry.

Trills · 01/11/2014 13:29

Helllooooooo.

I have decided that this month will be "write down everything I spend" month.

I'm going to start looking for a new place to live after Christmas (renting not buying) so I'll be saving up for the deposit etc.

Imeldainthemustardcoat · 01/11/2014 14:17

I am saving up for a VW Beetle, so can I join please. nothing extravagant but need to save up a grand, hoping you lovely ladies can spur me on :)
Good Luck everyone .......

Imeldainthemustardcoat · 01/11/2014 14:22

PS.....LSD

£3.20 posting my son's shoes to Cardiff Uni because he forgot them 8 weeks ago when he left and I have just found them [he does have others mind you :)]

other than that, nada....daren't go near a shop. I am going to log all spends on here so I can really keep an eye on it...

Trills · 01/11/2014 14:30

I am trying to not poke about on ebay and amazon by poking about on rightmove instead no chance I'll accidentally buy anything there!

SpottyTeacakes · 01/11/2014 14:48

£15 in tesco Angry and I stuck to my list. I have no idea how it was that much. Probably the bin liners and deodorant but I'm pissed off with tesco still. Having to go to that small one is way more expensive than getting it online.

Lottie4 · 01/11/2014 15:06

I've set a food budget of £50 a week (and for last three months have kept to it), had £18.73 left for the weekend, today's food shopping came to £18.23 - phew! Think I've done well as we're entertaining tonight.

Homebase - £26.50 - four bags of bark chippings and 3 small lavender plants - 15% off today! Our garden was just grass, gravel and patio, so we've put borders in and are slowly filling with plants.

FantaSea · 01/11/2014 15:08

Welcome all the newcomers Smile

I haven't even started my Christmas shopping yet, and I am working with a lady who has all hers and they are wrapped already!

LSD today, just some fruit I forgot to get yesterday Smile

FantaSea · 01/11/2014 15:13

Badvoc Your dress for the party sounds fab. I have had some brilliant buys in Asda, including some dresses for DD(18). I bought her one about this time last year, it is plain black with a lace collar and it looks lovely on her. I think it was £18 and she has worn it loads, for an interview, a party and other going out. She even thought it was suitable to wear for Halloween yesterday as she was going over to a friend's house. Our Asda has good sale items too, I recently got a load of new bras for her and me for £2 each! I think they are really nice, but DD thinks they are too plain. I explained that for £2, we shouldn't be that fussy Grin .

Badvoc123 · 01/11/2014 15:21

Fanta...I'm so pleased with it! I'm not a dress person really but it's a big massive party and I don't want to "let the side down" so to speak!
I am nearly done Xmas wise :)
Just got Dhs gd, sil and fil to do now.
I have a £15 amazon gift card I can use for one of them.
I have sold a few things on e bay but I don't seem to be getting much :(
Our weekend away is mine and Dhs gift to each other.
One frugal tip I would like to pass on is - non branded meds!
I take quite a lot of painkillers (I have fibromyalgia) and I am so Shock at how cheap meds are at aldi!
Ranitidine from my local pharmacy....£4. Aldi....79p
Berocca £4....aldi 89p
Ditto painkillers and cold and flu relief.
It's been a real eye opener I can tell you!

SpottyTeacakes · 01/11/2014 15:36

Christmas is stressing me out Sad we are fine for bills but don't really have anything spare. Between us we have:

Two dc
One niece
Two nephews
Nine siblings plus four partners
Two sets of parents one set step parents
Two sets of grand parents
Two aunts
Two uncles
My best friend and her two dc.

FantaSea · 01/11/2014 16:16

Spotty that is a lot of people to buy for! Does everyone need a present or can you do a bit of doubling-up?

Badvoc123 · 01/11/2014 16:24

Spotty...we don't buy gifts for adults on my side of the family. Just the kids.
Sadly dhs side won't hear of it Hmm
I also only buy for one other non family child (dhs gd)
I also start buying early to spread the cost.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/11/2014 16:31

I've only got my best friends dc that aren't family. Trouble is only two out of the nine siblings have dc and three of them are under 19. It's my family that's massive even though me and my sisters are the only children/grandchildren. Nightmare. It's the siblings that cost the most.

Badvoc123 · 01/11/2014 16:45

Can you suggest a secret Santa?

Sixforgold · 01/11/2014 16:45

Just spent 42 on amazon from the comfort of the duvet dammit! Ok not a.great start to the month but that is dh completely sorted for Christmas. I only have my mum left to buy for now. We're out for dinner tonight as we're on our weekend away so it will be a bit spendy. I'm going to aim for 15 NSDs - half of the month!

ItalianWiking84 · 01/11/2014 16:51

In Denmark we can only buy medicine at the pharmacy so not much competition but luckily the state pays a part of the cost and some medical are free

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 01/11/2014 16:53

Badvoc they won't hear of it? Can't you just say "this is what we're doing and that's that" ??? They don't get to decide who you buy for... YOU decide.

Spotty Your siblings? My sisters and I haven't bought for each other since we were about 20. Once we started having children, we agreed to stop buying for each other and only buy for the children. Once the children hit 18, we stopped buying for them as well, and moved on to cards.

You have to draw a line somewhere or you'll go bankrupt (and insane) trying to keep up.

Passthecake30 · 01/11/2014 16:53

Few spends today, £10ish in the range on bits for dds party, couple of pounds on fruit and £4 in arcades for kids.

Must stop hemorrhaging money. ..

SpottyTeacakes · 01/11/2014 17:03

Alice I have

Sister and bil no dc (they buy for my dc so I buy for them)
Sister with almost 2dc (could say no presents)
Sister 18 (buys for my dc)
Brother 17
Sister 12

My parents always give us £50 plus small gift so I feel I should get them something.

My grandparents usually give us £80 Shock and my aunts etc £25 not including the dc so I like to get them something even if it's a box of chocolates.

Only one of dp's three brothers has dc but he's got with someone who has three dc already (forgot about them Hmm). Do you think I can say no presents for adults even if they have no dc? I might discuss it with dp.

Sorry I'm really rambling! And burning the dinner Blush

Badvoc123 · 01/11/2014 17:06

I've tried....Smile
It annoys me really. I think if adults want stuff they can buy it themselves...toddlers not so much Grin
I love Xmas but it's soooo commercial nowHmm

AdoraBell · 01/11/2014 17:13
