What symptoms did you have and how long did it last for?

I haven’t tested for at least a year

Is it any wonder there’s been a huge uptick in cases in the last few weeks? I've gone through 3 years without getting it once and my family has been so careful. Now we’ve all come down with it, and I know so, so many people getting it recently for the first time too.

I wonder about the "try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for a further 5 days after your positive test "

I mean I can see that the Gov needs to give clear advice, that they need to be mindful of people needing to work to eat ,for the economy to survive .All that

But Is there a scientific basis for the 5 days as far as remaining infectious ?Or is it a rough guess that most people won't be shedding the virus by then ?Or much of the virus .

We all know that the rapid flow tests give a varying range of indication that you still have the virus .I assume a quick ,strong red line means you've more of it present than a faint grey line .

Mine is as bright and strong after 8 days as it was on day 1 .

SoftCoeur · 10/04/2023 22:54

I think I had it last week but didn't test. I'd been at a family gathering with 20+ people, one of whom texted a few days later that he'd tested positive, by which point I was ill and felt very similar to when I did have it exactly one year ago. So I assume I've had it again now.

My first thing was unable to get to sleep, mouth kept filling with spit, weird refluxy feeling in chest and throat. Then next day just general feeling crap, snotty, sinusy headache, body aches. No appetite at all. Stayed in hotel room feeling sorry for self and wishing I was at home as just wanted own bed and own things. Mostly better on days 2-3 but tired, snotty and still no appetite whatsoever. Fine on day 4. Bit of a cough remaining but nothing bothersome.

Almost exactly the same as when I had it a year ago, it was three days then too.

@rileynexttime an omicron study on HCWs with non severe covid showed positivity rates for days 5, 7, 10 and 14:
PCR positivity rate was 96.4%, 87.3%, 74.545% and 41.8% consecutively. The viral culture positivity rates were 83%, 52%, 13.5% and 8%. Among the patients who became symptom-free, the viral culture positivity rates were 100%, 58%, 11% and 5%. Study link www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9287585/

Got it now and started with a sore throat, then general cold symptoms which rapidly moved to full body aches and pains (hips and knees especially bad) crushing headache, shivery and freezing cold following by roasting hot and bright green snot with blood it it. Been in bed for 3 days now.

I've just started with a tickly cough which is actually preferable

(And no, I wouldn't have tested by DP's work still do the 10 days off if you are positive thing so we dug out the last 2 LFT's and here we are)

rileynexttime · 11/04/2023 20:15

Thank you @PauseTheRain .So ,not at all uncommon to be shedding quite a lot of the virus on day 5 .Though it's a small study .

I think there should be more studies ,more info and more publicity .People should be more aware so that they can exercise more caution .It doesn't feel to me that covid is yet in the same category as flu ,it's too new and too varied in it's impact on individuals .

I'm like a bag of crap. Day 2...

Temperature
Shivers
Blocked nose
Sneezing
Achey all over
Sore neck
Headaches
Earaches

2023Hope · 14/04/2023 18:41

Just tested positive day 1 - sore throat, neck and ear aches, loss of appetite - first time I’ve had it.

Tested as seeing a 84 year old friend at the weekend and aside from that was curious as paracetamol usually sorts a headache quickly for me but not last night or today.

colouringindoors · 14/04/2023 18:54

Urgh I think I've got it again (3rd time which is scaring me) classic cold started Wednesday with sore throat , tickly cough, headache. Now gave sneezing, runny nose and itchy eyes and generally feeling rough. Will have to get someone to pick me up some tests... I'm fed up.

13Bastards · 15/04/2023 11:16

The new variant has conjunctivitis as a side effect as well which is nice 😒

It's a week since symptoms started and I feel a bit brighter today but still very much positive on a LFT. Have had to cancel 2 meals out now with friends and was supposed to be out tomorrow for bday drinks- can't seem me being negative by then

crossstitchingnana · 15/04/2023 13:38

Day 5 here. Actually out of bed, but only moved to sofa.

Had nausea, diarrhoea, aches, fever, chills sneezing, coughing, no taste or smell, itchy eyes and lethargy/dizziness.

Second time and feel just as rough as the first time.

colouringindoors · 15/04/2023 14:22

Day 4 now feeling dreadful. Big headache, v painful sinuses, nose. Sore throat, very tickly cough esp at night and sore eyes. Wishing I wasn't self employed now.

13Bastards · 15/04/2023 16:17

@crossstitchingnana conjunctivitis is a symptom of the newest strain. It was grim

Blahblahblowfish · 16/04/2023 20:11

I tested positive on Friday. First time ever knowingly had it. We test now and then to reassure and protect my Mum (Dad died of Covid). DH tested positive on Wednesday he was basically asleep for 2 days but has bounced back apart from a nasty cold now. I tested Thursday - negative - so went into work but then felt very wobbly and strange so went home early. Strong positive by Friday morning and could not get out of bed. Worst symptoms have been fatigue (have to sit down halfway up the stairs) and a kind of wobbly vertigo feeling, no appetite or taste, horrible muscle and joint pains and ice pick headaches. I am exhausted but can’t sleep. Itchy eyes too. Deep joy!

Maze76 · 16/04/2023 23:38

Tested positive Thursday, this the third time having this bloody virus and each time has been so different!
This time my symptoms are a rough dry cough, sore neck and fatigue.
Ive also developed an irritating sore in my mouth.
No loss of taste or smell and strangely my appetite hasn’t changed.
Not going into the office Monday as I have colleagues with underlying health conditions- hoping to return on Tuesday.

colouringindoors · 17/04/2023 19:03

negative test but not entirely convinced. Lack of appetite is almost unheard of for me.... headache, fatigue, sore throat, runny nose, painful sinuses, sore eyes. Wondering if pollen is not helping but I don't usually get hayfever til end May...

Manicule · 18/04/2023 21:04

@colouringindoors I tested negative for 7 days before it showed up positive. Most of your symptoms except for the sore eyes. I thought it was my worst-ever cold until the red line finally appeared….
