Tested positive yesterday evening when I thought I was literally going to die! Had a headache and cold symptoms I couldn't shift throughout the day. Had an early night but woke up with a 40.1 degree temperature and was shivering head to toe.
Managed to dodge covid.. until now. Hearing a lot of people catching it again.
It's horrible! The worst thing is the headache!
Anyone else currently have it?
How you feeling?

Teacher here, never once tested positive but now we've all got it. Oddly the worst thing at present is severe lower back ache. Also feel woozy and hot.

The lower back ache is unreal. I am 2 and half weeks from first symptoms and covid positive home results and it's still killing me.

SummersBreeze · 22/07/2022 14:19

Lads, I had covid symptoms two and half weeks ago followed by positive tests. The illness went on for a week. The second week I was getting better but still not quite there. I was tired with a sore back and the taste and smell was slowing returning to me.

I am just after coming down with a 24 hour bug/nirovirus thing. It's absolutely fucking hideous. I think I am on the mend from the 24 hour virus but fuck me, it's horrific. I was nausea so much yesterday but motilium didn't even stay down. The vomiting and the diarrhoea at the same fucking time.
It is fucking hideous. Fucking hell.

I am hungry and tired and weak but I can't eat solids. I am keeping fluids down now. I lost the function of my bowels last night too and had to wear big fat maternity pads. It's fucking awful and I want to die.

FlippinOmicron · 22/07/2022 14:50

Oh @SummersBreeze
That sounds so awful.
Get better soon.

LookdeepintotheParka · 22/07/2022 15:39

I've lost my taste and smell today (day 3) @FlippinOmicron was just trying to smell the Vicks vaporub and can't. I was actually more worried about this than anything else with Covid. Feel quite congested in my face and around my eyes but otherwise ok.

Sorry to hear about those having stomach trouble and sickness with this virus - sounds horrible

FlippinOmicron · 22/07/2022 15:47

@LookdeepintotheParka
It sounds exactly like my experience of Covid. I have just tested the Vicks.
I can't smell a thing OMG 😩

AhaLyn · 22/07/2022 16:36

Yeah I lost my smell and taste completely could only just about get salt and sweet sort of. Everything was replaced with a cigarette smoke smell. Mine is back fully now. It did take a few days to return, my tips would be -

keep smelling things through the day, in particular toiletries and essential oils

try and sit in the fresh air/garden etc - my smell came back intermittently in the garden so I think it helps in some way, worth a go but might not want to if feeling rotten and tired

i took high strength vitamin c, zinc, magnesium and echinacea (separately) and rested as much as I can - keep eating if you can and hydrate

it’s crappy and I felt really horrible when I lost taste and smell, it seems like a trivial symptom to be bothered about out of all of them but it is a bit smothering. Hope you all feel better soon - rest up.

AhaLyn · 22/07/2022 16:38

Ps also now negative on I think day 11.

Magic1231 · 22/07/2022 16:42

I did suffer from muted taste and smell, but it never went completely, and seemed to come back rapidly. I dont know if it's just a coincidence, but I took 3 of those high strength Vit C and zinc disolveable tablets. I do recall hearing vitamin C is supposed to help with the taste and smell, as I say I'm not too sure if it helped or just a coincidence. Hope you feel better soon xxx

Magic1231 · 22/07/2022 16:43

I took 3 a day, admittedly it can result in a bit of diarrhea but that's been the least of my worries haha xxx

FlippinOmicron · 22/07/2022 17:38

@AhaLyn
Thank you for giving me hope.
I tested positive on Monday but only noticed that my smell and taste were gone on Thursday.
There is no scent from my normally beautifully scented roses and lavender growing in the garden.
I used to have an amazing sense of smell.

Looking on the bright side, there is absolutely no point in eating chocolate, biscuits or cake as I can't taste their deliciousness. Perhaps I'll lose weight !!!

I'll try the Vitamin C soluble tablets @Magic1231, thank you for the tip and fingers crossed it will work.

AhaLyn · 22/07/2022 18:21

@FlippinOmicron Haha, I thought the same, a few pounds could do with going but I got so excited when I could taste again that I ate loads Grin

Its not nice and don’t get disheartened if it comes back and goes again over a few days/week, it felt like a volume dial going up and down.

AhaLyn · 22/07/2022 18:22

@Magic1231 ha I think I went a bit mad with the vit c Grin good job I couldn’t smell 💨

LookdeepintotheParka · 22/07/2022 19:10

Oh that's reassuring about the vits potentially helping with smell and taste.
Will try with those tips and here's hoping!

I could definitely do with losing a few pounds although so far my taste seems less affected than smell 💁

WanderingFruitWonderer · 22/07/2022 19:26

Testing negative at last, a few minutes ago, 10 days after my first positive! Yippee! 🎉🎉 Oh the joy and the relief. I've felt better for a few days, but last tested on Tuesday, and was still a light positive then. I didn't want to keep wasting tests, or face the misery of more positives, so thought I'd wait a few more days. Some time between then and now I became negative, so probably a couple of days or so. That tense moment, waiting for the dreaded T line, or not. I was so elated at the negative that I've been playing Ennio Morricone's Ecstasy of Gold about three times to celebrate! Hang on in there those of you still in the throes of it - this too shall pass x

AhaLyn · 22/07/2022 20:55

Wookey123 · 22/07/2022 21:09

FlibbertyGibbitt · 22/07/2022 21:43

Tested positive today as well 🙄 managed to avoid it throughout the last 2.5 years. Felt like I’d got a cold yesterday and today but as have been sitting under the air con at work thought that it was that as it’s bloody freezing. Couldn’t believe when I tested and it was positive !

AhaLyn · 23/07/2022 09:45

I can taste tea again GrinBrew yippee

was the last thing that tasted off.

FlippinOmicron · 23/07/2022 15:47

AhaLyn · 23/07/2022 18:18

@FlippinOmicron yes i am negative now but have a mild cough and ‘winded’ rather than breathless. Although that may be my 2 weeks stuck indoors.

Magic1231 · 23/07/2022 19:19

@AhaLyn aww yay, glad you can now enjoy a nice cup of tea 🙂 it's the little pleasures isnt it xxx

FlippinOmicron · 24/07/2022 12:09

Omicron Variant 5 isn't supposed to affect the sense of smell.
I wonder what variant I have ?
Barely a cough, fatigue and sense of smell gone, which affects the sense of taste.
DH has a bad cough, fatigue but is grand re smell and taste.

LookdeepintotheParka · 24/07/2022 12:49

@FlippinOmicron I heard that about the Omicron variants but I found a couple of early findings about BA 5 that they are seeing anecdotally the loss of smell and taste has been making a bit of a return for some people.

Day 5 and I have no smell or taste although DH (who has otherwise very similar symptoms) is not affected - very weird!

AhaLyn · 24/07/2022 13:06

Everyone will experience it differently I think. Me and my partner had it at the same time, likely caught in same place as we were away together. He was ill for a day and then fine but still positive a few days. I was positive for roughly 12-13 days and really ill.
