Tested positive today - anyone else?

Tested positive this morning (Sunday) after negative test last night. I think I had it before a few months ago so am a bit annoyed to have it again.

Symptoms are feeling chesty, bit of a cough, painful mouth ulcers on back of tongue.

Anyone else along for the ride?

It's day 4 or 5 and I have to say that I don't feel poorly nor do I feel like I'm fighting fevers. My nerves feel like they're calming down (tongue nerves go a bit bonkers.)

My cough which came out of nowhere on Tuesday got bad yesterday but does seem as if turning a corner - I'm on a MART protocol now with Fostair and do wonder if it's helped. Or my immune system is better, though any cough usually lingers.

I'm extremely relieved as I had this in Jan and was off work for a month. Went back too soon. It definitely took more than 3 months.

I really hope you all get well soon. It can take time so make sure you all rest as much as possible and see the Gp if you need time . I found mine were becoming used to this version of lingering covid - long covid is after 3 months so it really can take that long. ❤️

WarriorN · 07/07/2022 08:27

Though I've just remembered I felt better on day 7 last time and then went downhill so not counting my chickens yet...

weffles · 07/07/2022 08:51

Tested positive finally this morning. Symptoms started Sunday / Monday. Felt shivery, achy, very tired. Yesterday I felt better although that might be the lemsip. Today I have a cough and stuffy nose and sore throat. Very strange dreams! Can’t believe I’ve managed to dodge it until now.

WheredidIputmymarbles · 07/07/2022 09:25

I’m day 9 and still testing positive. My initial symptoms have gone but have been replaced by a really bad morning cough which is manageable but it’s the exhaustion which I am struggling with. I am so, so tired.
Anyone else?

LIZS · 07/07/2022 12:36

Also still + on day 9. Confused Not too bad symptom-wise if ears and head are woolly and easily tired. Am I right in thinking on day 10 you can carry on anyway?

XenoBitch · 07/07/2022 12:58

Day 5 (or 6 after symptoms) here.
Just the odd cough now. Did a test and still have a strong positive line.

NotsoTeflonBoris · 07/07/2022 13:20

Tested positive on Monday. Have been in bed most of the time , very tired and desperately trying to fend off horrendous headache.

No sore throat or cold like symptoms. Definitely flu like symptoms.

No appetite.

Mushroomlady · 07/07/2022 13:32

Day 4 for me. Tested positive on Monday when symptoms properly began.
I am feeling a LOT better, except for having awful fatigue. It's so weird! It's not the feeling of wanting to sleep, it's more the sensation of having no energy and my whole body is resisting the idea of me doing anything. Also have some chest congestion and my weirdest symptom is a red itchy rash on my feet and on my fingers.

I am covid positive and feeling pretty rotten at the moment mainly headache, fatigue and aching face but hoping after 5 days isolating I can go back to work on Monday. If I am feeling well obviously though I wasn't planning on testing before going back as currently guidance states you are ok to go back to work if you feel fine, is this correct? I've heard that positive tests can hang on for a long time even when you are no longer contagious so surely feeling ok if you've done 5 days isolating is fine ? taking my guidance from BBC
www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-54239922

I don't want to out anyone at risk but equally a lot of people aren't even isolating at all and I will have been responsible surely by isolating for the 5 days - or should test to release like the old days ?

78Summer · 07/07/2022 15:11

I am on day 6. Fatigue is horrendous and have terrible sinus pain. It has been more flu like. Surprised how much it has floored me.

From what I gather, there is no requirement to self isolate anymore, so no 'test to release'.
Guidelines say avoid others for 5 days, and vulnerable for 10 days.

roundandrounditgoes1234 · 07/07/2022 16:22

@XenoBitch thanks for the reassurance I get very anxious about doing the right thing and this has reassured

LIZS · 07/07/2022 16:41

@XenoBitch that was how I read it. Unfortunately dh is more vulnerable than me , hence avoiding each other, but seems to be clear so far,

Beefilm · 07/07/2022 20:33

I'm glad to read that others have tested negative after a positive test but continue to feel ill. Obviously, I'm not glad you feel ill but this is my experience too and it is good to know I'm not alone.

I was positive for about a week, with few symptoms other than extreme tiredness and a bit of aching. Tested negative on Tuesday, and went back to work yesterday, since when I have experienced all sorts of, admittedly minor, symptoms: a bit of gastric discomfort, a sore throat, a bit of a head cold. It feels like the start of a virus, not the end! Very odd.

Madhairday · 07/07/2022 22:26

Just tested positive tonight, first time with covid and CEV (from the old CEB group but not the new critically vulnerable/antiviral group 😢)
I'm on holiday so the timing sucks. Felt fine today, out on a trip then on the way home my head started aching and my throat was suddenly really sore. Tested positive immediately but fairly faint at the moment. Can't believe how quickly I've gone downhill, in a few hours I've gone from walking on a beach to feeling like rubbish, chest aching, body really heavy, no appetite. And this is just the start.

I'm scared. I spent so long getting letters for the CEV and they had a big effect on me I guess. Any positive stories from CEV people would be appreciated.

Francophilia · 08/07/2022 09:27

@Madhairday My adult CEV daughter had Covid along with the rest of the family last week. Her symptoms and duration of illness were the same as the rest of us. She could have opted for treatment as she is CEV but didn’t feel it was necessary.
She felt properly ill for 3-4 days (bad headache, sore throat, stuffy runny nose, slight cough, very tired) but took it very easy and a week later is pretty much back to normal. Still feels a bit mucous.
She was really worried when no she tested positive but soon realised she was no worse than the rest of us. It probably helped that we all had it together.
I hope that reassures you a little.

Karmatime · 08/07/2022 09:32

Tested +ve this morning. Symptoms started on Wednesday with heartburn (I never get heartburn) and tiredness. Yesterday I was wiped out but tested -ve. DP woke up with crashing headache yesterday and was also wiped out all day. Now got a really sore throat and getting hot sweats on and off. This is my first bout so don’t know what to expect. I feel rough but not scarily so. Triple vaxxed but booster was in November. Do I count this as day 1 or day 3? We have food in and retired so don’t need to go anywhere, I don’t have the energy anyway.

winemedown · 08/07/2022 09:37

I'm sure that this is just going to go on and on, some experts are saying less than two weeks immunity after infection. The world cannot keep isolating every six weeks. How much school would the kids miss, how much work? If you feel rubbish then obviously stay home but I am really concerned about the knock on effect of surgeons for example having to cancel a weeks worth of patients every six weeks or teachers or anaesthetists. But then, they can't operate whilst having covid.
It really is a shit situation all round.

Madhairday · 08/07/2022 10:19

Thank you @Francophilia , so glad your DD got through okay. I've had an awful night, can barely get out of bed, everything hurts so much from eyes to feet, it feels so different to anything I've had before and I get recurrent pneumonia. My head is just splitting, phone hurting so going to try sleep ahsjn

lifeturnsonadime · 08/07/2022 11:13

I'm day 6 from symptoms starting and day 4 post first positive test and feel shocking.

Can barely stay awake and can barely eat.

For those who have had extreme exhaustion, to the point you can't stay awake for more than an hour or so, how long does it go on for?

I can barely read this screen today as I feel so dizzy with it.

Gosh big hugs and 🍰 to you. Hope you turn a corner soon. I feel bad but am able to get dressed and move about a bit. Cough and sore throat seems worst when I wake. But fatigue is there all the time!

pinklavenders · 08/07/2022 11:45

Really? Do you have a link to that?

Phrenologistsfinger · 08/07/2022 12:38

Day 8, still going. Lungs very congested still, wiped out still. Low ox sats compared to normal. No sense of taste or smell.

Tested positive yesterday but now out of tests so waiting to get more from medisave. I don’t trust the Flowflex ones as it give me a negstive when I had strong positives on other brands at the same time.

I am isolating from DP (to preserve his sperm quality as doing IVF) and my elderly mum (who lives here too). Bit over it all now.

overthinkersanonnymus · 08/07/2022 12:41

It's just never bloody ending! I'm exhausted today and feel quite congested so think that's affecting my breathing. Both me and DP have strong positives today (his day 1) and he's absolutely fine.

Started to panic about it now

Madhairday · 08/07/2022 13:10

@lifeturnsonadime I'm sorry you're feeling so rough. I'm on just day 2 and feeling completely awful, like even trying to sit up in bed and read is too much, head banging, throat so sore, no appetite, coughing lots more already. I have lung disease so worried 😢 gosh it really does affect people in such different ways. For me it came on so strongly within a couple of hours - no inkling of it at all, then it just hit like a steam train.
