Has anyone else never had covid?

Just about everyone I know has now had covid at some point over last few years. It’s been in our household twice and we didn’t isolate from each other but I never tested positive. I have had times when I’ve felt ill and then found close contacts have tested positive so I’ve been sure I must have but always tested negative. Not complaining at all, if anything I consider myself lucky, just think it’s odd and I seem to be a minority.

I’ve never had a positive test, but did have “bronchitis” diagnosed over the phone about 3 weeks before the first lockdown, when in retrospect it was rife in London and I’d been to the theatre a few days before, my GP said it wouldn’t be Covid as I hadn’t been to China! I was very poorly, and struggled on at work for days until I really couldn’t catch my breath and was bedridden. So that was probably Covid but we’ll never know.

I did read that a lot of people may have developed long term immunity from other mild coronaviruses that is effective against Covid. They were studying it as a key to improving vaccines.

Iggly · 16/03/2022 08:08

Nope. None of us and we have two school aged children and covid has swept through the schools like wildfire including their close friends.

It’s getting closer though. I was with a friend for an hour in close quarters having a coffee and the next day she tested positive. (Weirdly I did feel under the weather and unusually tired for a few days but tested negative through the week). My daughter was with her best friend for a play date the day before her friend tested positive. My daughter then fell ill two days later with similar symptoms - negative PCR and LFTs!

LooksBetterWithAFaceMask · 16/03/2022 08:09

I also hadn’t until yesterday
Now dh and I both have it dc are still testing negative for the moment 🤞🏻

PoshPyjamas · 16/03/2022 08:10

Me! And I haven't been careful at all.

I should probably touch wood!

Branleuse · 16/03/2022 08:11

Not yet. I dont know how weve all avoided it in this house. We are only moderatly careful and 2 schoolkids and one that works in customer service. All vaccinated, but even so....

stripeyflowers · 16/03/2022 08:12

No - plenty of testing.

Girkkuli · 16/03/2022 08:14

No I haven't. We had delta in the family last summer but I managed to avoid it. My parents and my sister's family haven't had it either. Pil had it last month very mildly.

Ijustneedtosleep21 · 16/03/2022 08:14

I hadn't up until 9 days ago then we all caught it together

Noname1999 · 16/03/2022 08:15

Nope, but caught the flu last week 🤒😫

KatherineJaneway · 16/03/2022 08:16

I haven't had it yet.

FloBot7 · 16/03/2022 08:16

I haven't yet but I'm expecting that to change. I work in an office with 8 people and none of us had it until last week. Three of them have it now.

sqirrelfriends · 16/03/2022 08:16

I've never had it, nothing to do with being careful as I've picked up about a millions colds but none tested positive as covid.

Littlefish · 16/03/2022 08:18

I've never had it. Dh had it and I managed to avoid it.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/03/2022 08:18

No I haven't. Neither has my partner - he's more likely to catch it as he works in the emergency services so is trapped in close quarters with colleagues regularly.

I only know of one of my colleagues who has had it and the only family member who has had it caught it from a non-essential hospital visit he was forced to go to by the care home at the start of the first lockdown.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 16/03/2022 08:18

Nobody in my immediate family has, nor my parents or sister. I know loads of people that haven’t had it and others that have had it several times. (Maybe the different restrictions in Wales help?)

LoganberryJam · 16/03/2022 08:19

I haven't (yet), despite working partly outside the home and living with people who've had it (DH, DS1, DS2). Its possible I've had it without realising, but I've never had symptoms or tested positive.

iamsoreadyforbednow · 16/03/2022 08:20

I’ve never had it, nor DP or DD who I was sure would catch it from nursery at some point!

Now they’ve scrapped the legality behind self isolating when positive I feel a little more on edge though. I’m 9 months pregnant and really, really don’t want to catch it now just before I’m due to go into hospital and give birth Grin

MaizeAmaze · 16/03/2022 08:20

The official stats say the UK has had 20million cases of covid. Since some people will have had it twice, and some people will never have tested when ill, as a rough guess I'd say 1/3 of people have had it, leaving 2/3 not having had covid.

JellyTots2009 · 16/03/2022 08:21

Unless everyone saying no did a test regularly, they can not guarantee that haven't had it.

A lot of people can be asymptomatic and not know at all

Hairbear2 · 16/03/2022 08:21

I’m pleased to read this, as we had avoided it until this week my dd has it. I’m still negative and hope to stay that way. But she’s 8, needs the cuddles. So who knows.

merrymelodies · 16/03/2022 08:21

I haven't had it nor has anyone in my family. We've all been very careful though, because of my mum's health.

Gindrinker43 · 16/03/2022 08:22

Both my DC have coughs and sore throats for last couple of days. Whole household testing negative, looks like it is a cold.
I work in healthcare and so far none of us have had it.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/03/2022 08:22

I haven't, nor have DH or DS. Dh and I both work from home, but ds works in a workplace where no one is wearing masks. Plus he's not really taken any precautions for ages, and he's been to gigs, parties and pubs ever since it was allowed.

Pre Covid, I never caught anything - I'd had 15 years with no sick days, so I don't know if that has helped, but DH has a crap immune system and catches every cold etc going.

I suspect its just a matter of time though.

MissDollyMix · 16/03/2022 08:22

I haven’t had it yet. Everyone I know has had it including my dh and school age children. They didn’t isolate from me when they had it. I cuddled them, they coughed in my face etc etc. I don’t think I have a magic immunity though. I’m sure I’m going to get it at some point. Probably just before something really important.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 16/03/2022 08:23

Nobody in my household has had it..... In fact ds has earned the nickname teflon as he's been in close contact with so many people who have tested positive.
