Work saying I'm good to go in

What's the rules on faint positive lft and working?
I messaged my supervisor yesterday evening letting her know I had a faint positive on a lateral flow after feeling a little ropey (I'll attach the faint positive).
I then did another lft immediately after to double check and it was negative.
I did a pcr this morning and sent off as I have symptoms.
I've just asked what the process is in regards to work and I've been told I'm ok to go in until I get a positive.. I'm assuming they mean pcr unless they don't think my faint positive is a real positive.

What are your thoughts? I thought I had to isolate until pcr results but it's constantly changing so I have no idea

@Theunamedcat

They are supposed to have different serial numbers no wonder work is suspicious
Very true! That’s 2 pics of the same test!
BungleandGeorge · 20/01/2022 13:57

@saraclara

Just to reassure me that I'm not going mad, can anyone see anything at all on these? I'm genuinely interested in why it's obvious on some people's screens and not on mine

(sorry for the minor threadjack, OP)

Yes you can see something on those although I can’t tell if it’s a pink line or colourless
HaveANiceFuckingDay · 20/01/2022 14:01

As an aside aren't the government doing away with self isolating ?

Nope , again I cant see 2 lines at all
akissbeforebed · 20/01/2022 14:03

Irrespective of what the LFT do or do not say, you cannot go to work until you have a negative result from your PCR (and obviously not if it's positive). I've just lifted this from the government website:

You should stay at home while you are waiting for a home test kit, a test site appointment or a test result. You can leave your home in a few specific circumstances, but do not go to work, school, or public areas and do not use public transport or taxis. See the circumstances in which you can leave home.

Threeboysandadog · 20/01/2022 14:05

I can’t see a line but if you were coming to mine for coffee I would ask you to postpone until your PCR result came back. It doesn’t make sense to risk spreading it.

However, you should go in and discuss the problem with your supervisor avoiding all other staff. You may need to remove your mask whilst in her office as your symptoms could make you feel clammy. A good cough and a faint into her arms should see you sent home to await your result and, of course, your supervisor won’t be worried as she knows you are negative.

Alternatively, you could just be too unwell to work.

rozzyraspberry · 20/01/2022 14:06

As others have said lft is irrelevant - you have symptoms and are waiting for pcr test results so have to isolate.

MerryPoppings · 20/01/2022 14:15

I can see lines on both of OPs and also @saraclara ones.

DH can never seen faint lines, even in real life. I wonder if some people can't see faint pink colours as well as others. He didn't believe me that I was pregnant as well as I could see a faint line but he couldn't. DD is now 10 😊

LeonaMar · 20/01/2022 14:23

That’s how mine looked at first, the next morning it was clearly a positive. Hope you feel well soon.

MananaTomorrow · 20/01/2022 14:28

You have symptoms.
It doesn’t matter if you have or not a positive, a faint positive or a negative.
You are supposed to self isolate until you get the PCR result.

Oxborn · 20/01/2022 14:32

I can see 2

Thesheerrelief · 20/01/2022 14:33

I can see a line. You have a positive test and symptoms so work should want you to isolation! Rather than waiting to confirm you really are contagious and have spread it at work.

Xmasbaby11 · 20/01/2022 14:35

I cant see the lines at all.

I am worried I have taken so many LFT and missed a positive!

freeingNora · 20/01/2022 14:36

If you want definitive proof of a positive lateral flow swab your throat then your nose. Covid lives in your throat upper respiratory trac.

Then see what the results are

Itsalmostanaccessory · 20/01/2022 14:42

The OP said she was attaching pic of the positive test. So she's taken 2 photos of the same test from different sides/angles to show the faint positive (which I totally cant see but it can be hard to see in a photo).

Rainbowsandstorms · 20/01/2022 14:44

You have symptoms and a positive lft. You need to register the positive lft and that will activate the legal duty to isolate. My whole household is positive and mine and my husband’s lft took a while to show positive after symptoms started (about 24 to 36 hours) and were initially very faint lines. It’s also worth swabbing your throat if you’ve done nose only (even if it’s a nose only test) as throat swabs show positive faster. Either way register your test and when you do you can ask for proof to be emailed to you which can be forwarded to work. As others have said a line is a line.

butterpuffed · 20/01/2022 14:48

@MerryPoppings

I can see lines on both of OPs and also *@saraclara* ones.

And they both have the same serial number on their tests..
SeenYourArse · 20/01/2022 14:48

Sorry but all those LFTs are absolutely negative?? I have zoomed in and changed the angle etc absolutely no positive line whatsoever, think it may be your eyes wanting to see one!

Rainbowsandstorms · 20/01/2022 14:48

I’d also add that I’ve found it very hard to photograph our faint positives so I wouldn’t be swayed by anyone saying they can’t see a line. All of our faint positives became very strong pink lines when testing over the next few days.

Rainbowsandstorms · 20/01/2022 14:50

Have you redone your lft today? It should become stronger over time.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/01/2022 14:55

That’s a “magic eye” positive, you have to focus away from it to see it. I can see it. And you have symptoms. Your work are being very irresponsible in regards of the other staff.

Derbee · 20/01/2022 14:56

Ask HR to put it in writing that they require you to come in after a positive lateral flow, against government guidelines. You can bet your life they won’t.

JugglingJanuary · 20/01/2022 14:59

@Russell19

Those tests are positive. There's clearly faint line. I really don't understand how people are saying they see nothing. Either way just say you feel unwell and are self certing for at least today...maybe longer, covid or not.
I can't see a line. My phone is an iPhone 6s, so not the newest!!, but not a complete dinosaur! But I have learnt not to say it's negative just because I can't see the line. Others can & that's good enough for me. I'm not so rude or arrogant to tell the OP she just wants time off.

@shauna79. You are right not to go in. Maybe do another LFT tonight or in the morning, it should have a stronger line to show the muppets you work with!! Take care, hope the symptoms feck off soon.

whenwillthemadnessend · 20/01/2022 14:59

Which one has the line as I see nothing

whenwillthemadnessend · 20/01/2022 15:01

Apparently if you lift to window light it's easier to see.
