We need as many people as possible to get vaccinated to get ourselves out of this mess.

He makes sense though, the waning immunity does mean staff will have to be boosted continually. We can't financially afford that, we can't logistically keep that up and having staff leave the NHS now would cause more problems than having a certain percentage of unvaccinated/unboosted staff

He does make some sense re the waning immunity but he doesn't explain why he doesn't want the vaccination

They have a NHS staffing crisis and the govt is then going to risk more leaving? Bad move imo.

If the vaccines do not provide lasting immunity then yes of course that’s an issue and it may not be viable to keep giving people boosters all the time but right now we have boosters available and they do provide some immunity at a time where we have huge numbers of people catching covid so to say anything to deter people from getting a vaccine at this time is just irresponsible.

(I say that as someone in the clinically extremely vulnerable group who currently has covid - albeit very mildly- and has been triple jabbed).

He doesn't explain why he is prepared to give up his job which he has trained many years for for the sake of a vaccine.

Also he says he has had covid at some point or other, doesn't sound like a PCR positive, more like he has done an antibody test and has antibodies.

If he has worked in covid ITU he is probably getting continuous exposure and that is maintaining his immunity. But is this the same for every health care worker? Can we risk discouraging people from vaccination? Boosters do seem to be helping. What is his solution if its not vaccination?

Not on my Twitter feed. A lot of people pointing out things like the fact that he’s wearing a watch in a clinical area, raising questions about his private practice and his communication style. All painting a picture of a man who is questionable clinically.

But neither is the vaccine though? Plenty of people test positive within weeks or months of having the vaccine.

I think the vaccine makes sense for the majority of people in it reduces their own risk of serious illness and death substantially. But surely that’s not the point of mandatory vaccination? - it’s to reduce spread? And isn’t his point that the vaccine doesn’t reduce spread ENOUGH to warrant it being mandatory?

More like an irresponsible idiot.

I completely support his stance. Countless other doctors/nurses/scientists have been saying the same for months, and being censored/discredited. I was shocked to see this on sky news, he is incredibly brave and I hope encourages others to stand their ground too. This bullying of anyone questioning the official narrative is quite honestly terrifying to me.

He was asked a question and he answered it honestly. Good for him. I wonder how many people that think he’s an idiot would still be very grateful for his help if they were in need of a consultant anaesthetist. The NHS can’t afford to lose its staff over this. We need them, and if the vaccines are that important, then we should be protected enough by our own not to be too worried about being treated by unvaccinated staff in a clean, hygienic hospital.

I have no doubt whatsoever that without the triple jabs that I’ve had I would probably be on a ventilator or dead right now.

The anaesthetist (Dr Steve James) does not claim that there is anything wrong with the vaccine, just that he thinks (wrongly) that having had Covid-19 gives him better protection.

Why on earth doesn't he just have the vaccine anyway, like the almost 4 billion of us who have already been fully vaccinated?

Do any of us want endless vaccines though? We do it for the greater good. I was happy to have two vaccinations. I’ve just had omicron so really don’t need/want a booster and feel ill again. But we won’t be considered fully vaccinated for travel without it.

I think there should be more discussion about immunity after infection but from my understanding vaccinations plus natural immunity is the best combination for long lasting immunity.

Plus I guess the doctor has to isolate every time he’s a close contact?

Hardly bullying to point out he is wrong. Just because other fools support a fool doesn't make idiots suddenly wise.

If he wants to resign I wish him luck getting another job. I hope he refuses treatment next time he gets it, especially ICU.
