Sorry if this has already been done, but are we expecting any sort of update from Boris ?
I don’t watch the news anymore so I’m not up to date.

@mumblecrumbs

Thats very interesting. Although if they leave now they risk taking omicron to wherever they go next. And so many places have omicron now hard to know where would be safe.

But i wonder if the embassy is thinking that the UK will have unrest and breakdwon in services ue to covid levels so high

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/01/2022 14:00

Yep, France is following suit and reducing isolation to 7 days. They have been stricter with mask wearing than us and still have higher daily cases, over 200k yesterday I believe.

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2022 14:01

Where is Boris Johnson?
It is disgraceful how it's been left. I've heard about rule changes for testing today I didn't know about before by my employer, people seem to be making up their own rules it seems!
( in my case the 90 day rule for lft after being positive before)
Schools are going back soon and they don't know what is happening.
Nobody wants lockdowns , nobody. Silly to think this but
Just a bit of information from our government might be nice now the hols are almost over about the data updates or why they need eight new hubs in the selected hospitals and how it's all going ?
Not much to ask really

It's been on the BBC news just now ,ministers don't think the data supports the need for further restrictions ,just now .
the80sweregreat · 02/01/2022 14:31

That's good news re restrictions, the data must be ok at the moment ( although many can't get tests or pcr's etc )
If this was a Labour leader leaving people on the dark like this though , they would be hung out to dry!

Very relieved to read this, not sure why masks in schools are the one thing but I’ll take fewer overall.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/01/2022 14:38

Great news. Fingers crossed.

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2022 14:40

I'm sure it'll be ok , but many can't get any tests or pcr's and a lot of hospital staff are off / isolating too
I've heard of a few more older people ( 70 to 80 age bracket ) getting it now as well.
As long as they stay out of hospital it might be ok ?

I think workplace absences will be the biggest problem. Just hoping it will settle down in a few weeks. I looked on the data thread and it seems as if London has passed the peak?

Tbh after the fiasco of last year I really don't think they want to bring in anymore restrictions and, unless the situation changes very quickly and things suddenly look very dire that's the only reason they would bring in more restrictions .
Northsoutheastwest76 · 02/01/2022 15:37

Northsoutheastwest76

Sorry data as of 29th December.

Hospitalisations are increasing not going
@Onthedowns sorry I probably didn't explain that well. What I meant was they aren't and high as previous waves but because there is a lag we are not yet seeing hospitalisation relating to the current peak.

Leedsfan247 · 02/01/2022 17:43

Boris is probably too busy away on holiday or at another party (sorry business meeting)

You are wrong. He is most definitely, of course, precisely in this country. Where else would he be? Shock
CheshireKitten123 · 02/01/2022 17:58

I'm more interested in an update about Prince Andrew and his ..er...situation Smile

FindingMeno · 02/01/2022 18:01

What, from the government?
Doubt it. That'd involve some form of leadership quality and accountability to the general public.
Prob all still drinking cinzano and playing charades.

curlymom · 02/01/2022 18:02

Just look up news for goodness sake. Must be quicker than all this

Luminousnose · 02/01/2022 18:41

I don’t like Boris and didn’t vote for him. I think the current restrictions are okay for now, although it is a calculated risk. I think secondary school kids wearing masks all the time is a good thing. I hate wearing masks (doesn’t everyone), but it’s frankly not a biggy wearing one in the supermarket and I have to wear one at work. I work for the NHS (GP surgery and yes, they’ve continued to see people throughout even when front door has been locked) and have been working at our local vaccination clinics (for which I am paid if they’re outside my normal hours). I currently have Covid (pretty sure it’s Omicron) and for me and family it’s been a mild cold or less, but I’m not stupid enough to think it’s the same for everyone as I know people who have been very poorly and we’ve had patients die - yes, even without ‘underlying conditions’.

I can’t decide whether @milly74 drunk or thick. Or possibly both.

Clarityiskey · 02/01/2022 18:52

Selfish attitude. NHS staff are overwhelmed but you're too special too comply?

Clarityiskey · 02/01/2022 18:57

Sorry, last comment for @Milly74, not @Luminousnose

ShabsLovesTiff · 02/01/2022 19:36

Oh my word?? Google covid news be quicker than all this an less opinionated to Grin

CallmeHendricks · 02/01/2022 22:00

London has peaked? But the schools are about to return and the pre-Christmas infections weren't predominantly Omicron. So case numbers could well rise again.

SquirmOfEels · 02/01/2022 22:13

More London data here:

data.london.gov.uk/dataset/coronavirus--covid-19--cases

Too soon to say for sure that it's peaked there - we're still in lumpy data (with all the Bank Hols and reports of shortages of tests) and it does look to be rising in some age groups while falling in others. Numbers admitted into hospital emergency to be rising -- reflecting numbers a week or so ago?

CallmeHendricks · 02/01/2022 22:20

Thank you @SquirmOfEels

IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 02/01/2022 22:40

I'm not seeing "London has peaked"

Are we expecting an update ?
