Sorry if this has already been done, but are we expecting any sort of update from Boris ?
I don’t watch the news anymore so I’m not up to date.

can't cancel.

Diamond, my heart goes out to you , but with this uncaring lot in power and everyone out for themselves then there isn't much hope at the moment.
I appreciate all that your doing. Let's hope things start to look up a bit , but I am sorry

PinkTree7 · 01/01/2022 15:29

Frankly I’m astonished that only now are NHS staff working overtime!

Myself and DH both work extra (unpaid) hours at work when required. I don’t see why NHS staff should be exempt. Particularly when the alternative is to shut down society and the economy.

CorrBlimeyGG · 01/01/2022 15:31

I'm frustrated that some hospitals (CEO, not front line staff) are trying to play things down. Ours has put out a statement that they have had to 'pause' visiting for two weeks due to covid. But I know they've not allowed visiting for at least six months. I don't think they've ever fully reinstated normal visiting since last March.

So why the announcement now? Feels like they're trying to rewrite history.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 01/01/2022 15:31

Thanks you everyone who commented. I'm terrified for people. I'm wondering when children will start dying with sepsis after burst appendixes or meningitis because we can't get them to hospital or treat them soon enough.

FanGirlX · 01/01/2022 15:33

On R4 earlier it said that the restrictions are being reviewed shortly and Plan B likely to remain in place. So guidance on working from home if you can. Masks and vaccine passports where necessary. So nothing new.

Cocoabutterformula · 01/01/2022 15:35

milly74 I'm loving your one woman revolution all over the boards

Youngatheart00 · 01/01/2022 15:38

@milly74 quick question - if you or a member of your family needed an ambulance or treatment at A&E would you expect that care to be given?

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2022 15:41

Milly doesn't care , she should write to Javid and tell him what a great job he is doing and let's just hope that many children don't die in the meantime eh ?
I'm sure his children will be fine though.

Puppylucky · 01/01/2022 15:47

Why is everyone obsessed with children dying? It's such a weird over reaction to start fretting over all these new child appendicitis and meningitis sufferers. I just don't understand what has suddenly happened to make all kids suddenly so much more vulnerable to rare diseases and complications. Confused

ilovesooty · 01/01/2022 15:49

@milly74

who cares? we will not comply
There you go with 'we' again.

I think what suddenly happened over the past two years is a pandemic that’s gone through phases of being hard to control. At the moment we’re in an especially hard to control phase due to how contagious omicron is. The healthcare staff who are seeing this are worried about everyone I expect, not just children. And it’s not that children are suddenly more susceptible or vulnerable, we ALL are due to the pressure from lots of covid cases. Hope that explains it a bit.

It's not that there's suddenly going to be more children suffering from these illnesses. It's the worry that there won't be sufficient staff and resources to provide emergency treatment or to care for them properly when they do become ill.

I'm amazed that so many people don't seem able to make that connection. Or maybe they just don't want to.

milly74 · 01/01/2022 16:01

maybe uh resource the NHS rather than think deprivation of civil liberties is the right answer?

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/01/2022 16:14

@milly74 sorry what civil liberties are we being deprived of? Being asked to wear a mask in crowded places? Being asked to work from home where possible?

jgw1 · 01/01/2022 16:31
@greentea5

Clearly it’s not an ideal situation but I do think teachers and other public sector workers could be asked to play a role in staffing these car park units.

We could have a rota system for example where teachers leave school at 3.30 and heat up meals from 4-6 at a Nightingale.

School cooks could make breakfast for the units before they go in to school. Why not have school canteens make lunches and these can be delivered to the units?
I thought I had seen the best post of the year on another thread where someone suggested that they couldn't possibly be expected to drive carefully passed schools.

May I offer my congratulations on surpassing that post.
My new favourite post of the year.

Why didn't we think of that? 🙄 But given that they can't/won't, it's down to us to do what we can to alleviate some pressure don't you think?
jgw1 · 01/01/2022 16:40

That will happen just as soon as Boris has got his oven ready Brexit through, then we will have £350million a week for the NHS.

Because the NHS is still bleating it can't cope. Because of Whitty and CO and their scaremongering.
All over a cold.

You must experience colds very differently from most other people.

So, @Milly74, what is your plan if you need emergency care from the "bleating" NHS over the next couple of months?

Everyone brings this up but what are the odds of someone fairly young and healthy suddenly needing emergency care? I'm 31 and the only time I've been in hospital was to give birth.
