Sorry if this has already been done, but are we expecting any sort of update from Boris ?
I don’t watch the news anymore so I’m not up to date.

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2022 06:55

I don't think that we are

RoseAndRose · 01/01/2022 07:05

Nothing announced

They might be hanging on for a few days of more, to put holiday behaviour behind us in the hope the data gathering is back to normal? But if we are going to have post Xmas and/or post NYE increases, will they get spotted in time? Xmas infections would be arriving in hospital any day now, wouldn't they?

GoodnightGrandma · 01/01/2022 07:07

I’m assuming the figures will be high when the kids are tested before going back to school, along with post Xmas/NY mixing.

Moolia · 01/01/2022 07:08

The figures won't be accurate if the test shortages continue though.

SpringRainbow · 01/01/2022 07:09

Unless things deteriorate rapidly, I’m not expecting much before Tuesday/ Wednesday really. Even then it’s most likely just Boris (someone on behalf of Boris) sitting down with various people and making time to look at the data.

GoodnightGrandma · 01/01/2022 07:12

I know that the tests were delivered to my DS’s school before they broke up.

Yes, it has been well trailered that there will be an announcement shortly of new restrictions on Boxing Day.
GoodnightGrandma · 01/01/2022 07:18

Are you trying to be funny ?

TokyoSushi · 01/01/2022 07:20

I think it'll be later this week once the Bank Holidays are over, so not for a few days yet.

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2022 07:23

Do you mean new years day? I suspect any announcement will coincide with schools going back.

jgw1 · 01/01/2022 07:23

@GoodnightGrandma

Do you mean me? No there was a long thread already about what restrictions Boris is going to announce on Boxing Day.
GoodnightGrandma · 01/01/2022 07:24

But Boxing Day has gone so I don’t get what you are trying to say ?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2022 07:25

Me neither. Unless you mean boxing day 2022

SickAndTiredAgain · 01/01/2022 07:28

Javid has said today that any new restrictions are a “last resort” so it doesn’t sound like they’re gearing up for anything.

You mean 26 December?... 2022?! 😆

I think as soon as they something is not going to happen it is more likely.
SNUG2022 · 01/01/2022 07:56

Yes, the next big event is schools going back. My dc go back Thursday, but others are Tuesday.

milly74 · 01/01/2022 07:57

who cares?
we will not comply

Gechik · 01/01/2022 08:00

A review on Wednesday was mentioned on the BBC News

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2022 08:00

Oh really?
It's Saturday now right?
Actually that is about the tkme the schools go back isn't it.

Gechik · 01/01/2022 08:10

It was only mentioned in passing, it doesn't mention it on the BBC website, our schools look like they go back on Tuesday

StealthPolarBear · 01/01/2022 08:13

Mine go back Thursday. A nice easy two day week for their first one.

jgw1 · 01/01/2022 08:18

@GoodnightGrandma

The government didn't announce that they were going to announce something on Boxing Day, and they haven't announced that there is going to be an announcement today. What is the purpose of this thread?

Boris will do his level best not to have to introduce any further restrictions, because doing so likely means the end of his time as Prime Minister.

The only time he has ever announced restrictions is at the point when any other alternatives were not possible, having ignored better options sooner as he doesn't like making unpopular decisions. Why would he be any different this time?

Svara · 01/01/2022 08:20

Ours are staggered return but DS is back Tuesday as an exam year

TheCloudsHavePassed · 01/01/2022 08:27

I don't know why there would be one today? (And I say that as someone was surprised there wasn't restrictions set for after boxing day) Nye parties went ahead last night as the numbers were 'ok'. That won't have changed overnight. It won't be until the numbers start to creep (if they do).
