Sorry if this has already been done, but are we expecting any sort of update from Boris ?
I don’t watch the news anymore so I’m not up to date.

OP posts:

They normally do it last minute so no one has time to plan. Maybe the day before the schools go back?

JessicaKenny2018 · 01/01/2022 08:45

I think if anything it will be Tuesday/Wednesday next week, doesn't the wfh restriction need reviewed Tuesday?
The issue is the numbers coming out are not a true reflection of actual daily positive cases because of the pcr testing shortage.

NinaProudman2022 · 01/01/2022 08:56

Schools go back here Tuesday here so if they follow last years pattern any announcement is likely to be Tuesday night, Wednesday or even Thursday.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/01/2022 09:21

My DS doesn't go back to school until the 10th. I don't think anything will change for schools though.

Is the wfh still on? Just working out if I need to go back to office on tuesday
JessicaKenny2018 · 01/01/2022 09:32

@Wfhquery I believe it's up for review this week but don't quote me on that, I'm going off memory 🤔

Keepgoing88 · 01/01/2022 09:45

It makes me laugh when people say ‘we won’t comply ‘ to new measures… if pubs can’t serve indoors or certain shops open or events happen you don’t really have a choice!

Motorina · 01/01/2022 09:46

Parliament returns wednesday. Presumably there will be PMQs? One would like to think that Starmer might quiz Boris on whether he has any plans beyond cheese and wine.

Mybalconyiscracking · 01/01/2022 09:48

I know a lot of people with what is effectively a bad cold ( including my 81yo mother).
Not sure what the announcement would be.

It's obvious when people say that they mean they won't comply with not mixing with family, etc. Clearly no one can go to places that are closed, but I won't be told that I can't have people in my home or limit the number of people I see at one time.

Lots of ways No mask wearing in supermarkets etc continuing to mix indoors Easy to find a hairdresser who will cut "illicitly" Meeting up in large groups outdoors

That's just to start with I am sure I can find more
We will not comply!

Dartsplayer · 01/01/2022 09:52

@milly74

who cares? we will not comply
So if, for example, they closed the schools, your work made you work from home, they closed non-essential shops and hospitality (which I'm not saying they will, just using these as examples), you wouldn't comply?

Let's hope you and your family don't need cancer care, heart care, emergency care then. I'm fed up of people not actually realising that the restrictions are to enable the NHS to continue with ALL of its care not just Covid

milly74 · 01/01/2022 09:55

No I will NOT comply!
We cannot keep imposing restrictions to prop up an NHS which fails EVERY WINTER
Enough
We will not comply!

Copasetic · 01/01/2022 09:58

@Keepgoing88 that's exactly what I was thinking. Easy to say you won't comply (and I do get it) but your kids can't go to a shut school, you can't shop in a closed shop, you can't watch a production in a closed theatre. In reality, you have little power left. Rebel and have a few friends round, don't wear a face mask? Like everyone, I've had enough and with our government it's tempting to say I won't comply but it isn't about Boris. If the NHS are genuinely under pressure or even if a huge percentage of the population having it at one time would put a pressure on the country as a whole with areas of the country not being able to operate, then I feel I do have to comply.

Lots of ways to not comply and you are a fool if you do so

We have to stand up for ourselves and fight back

I doubt I will be on my own

PuzzledObserver · 01/01/2022 10:05

We cannot keep imposing restrictions to prop up an NHS which fails EVERY WINTER

Talk to someone who works in a hospital. Ask them if last winter felt just like any other winter, and how this winter is shaping up compared to a pre-Covid winter.

More investment in the NHS would help, of course, no argument there. But to suggest that Covid is not adding extra pressure is ludicrous, and to use the NHS’s regular winter struggles as a reason not to comply with any restrictions is….well, words fail me, to be honest.

Back to the OP - no, we’re not expecting an announcement, unless by inference from them previously saying no restrictions before New Year. That doesn’t mean there will necessarily be restrictions after New Year, it’s pretty clear they don’t want to introduce any.

They really, really don’t want to introduce any restrictions. So if they do, it will mean that things are really desperate. Which would make it all the more important that people DO comply. If it happens, which it probably won’t.

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2022 10:06

The online news is pretty much done with it today
Javid has told the DM '. must live with it' and everyone I know now says the same too
I think that the devolved nations may as well lift restrictions too. This government isn't doing anything apart from letting Omnicron take over and hope it's stays a mild virus and dies out soon.
Let's see what happens!

Covidworries · 01/01/2022 10:09

@milly74

Dont comply, but dont use food delivery services, dont complain if your utilities go off and no one fixes it for days, dont complain with you cant buy food, dont go to hospital with an injury or illness of any kind.

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2022 10:13

I doubt that the NHS will receive any more money either to be honest , only for the hubs.
We've all been given our ' demob ' papers now and it's case of getting back out there again and living with this virus.
I don't entirely agree with this policy , but that's the messages and we have to hope the hospitals will be there for people for other things too.
If I were Mark Drakeford or Nicola Sturgeon I'd advise the same too.
They have laid out their stall , the PM has practically ignored us all for days and Javid is a business man not really interested in health apart from soundbites and appealing to the right of his party.
