Sorry if this has already been done, but are we expecting any sort of update from Boris ?
I don’t watch the news anymore so I’m not up to date.

Boris is well known for taking time off come rain or shine so yes probably I'd expect something this week after the official bank holidays end. I imagine perhaps one day after the kids go back if last year is any sort of guide.

I love how they say he's been "reviewing the data" I think this translates as "He's been absent."

TheCloudsHavePassed · 01/01/2022 10:13

@milly74 ok then...😂

Userrr · 01/01/2022 10:14

Surely most people have good supplies of food by now and not all the utilities will go off at once. I'm not really bothered as retired so can just stay in until I go on holiday in April, I will just see who I want when I want. Sooner they privatise the NHS the better

x2boys · 01/01/2022 10:16

I honestly don't think they want to introduce any further restrictions ,unless it's absolutely necessary, wether this is the right approach or not remains to be seen.

I understand people have had enough of restrictions I honestly do but if the NHS is overrun surely we have to comply, my son was sent home from a&e not so long ago with a partially blocked bowel and intermittently screaming in pain because nothing would be done till Monday anyway because of staffing issues on Childrens ward, my sister was involved in a serious car crash recently her whole face looked as though someone had taken a hammer to it she waited outside in an ambulance for 3 hours.
I have a vulnerable child so maybe that changes the way I look at things, what may be a cold to one person is a serious illness to another that results in hospitalisation and none of us know who it will affect and to what degree.

Workinghardeveryday · 01/01/2022 10:28

@milly74 oh dear.... do you have many friends with which would be happy to socialise with you given your attitude?...... 😬

SpringRainbow · 01/01/2022 10:33

To be honest if the data stays ‘ok’ I can see them reducing/ doing away with isolation (possibly only in certain workplaces) to solve the staffing crisis before they add further restrictions.

I’m not really sure how comfortable I am with this, but the media have been going on for a while now about how many people isolating aren’t actually sick and could work. They are planting the seeds already.

Keepgoing88 · 01/01/2022 11:08

@milly74 you going show up at a closed shop, business or school and try and get in.. because you won’t comply lol I understand there are a few things you can do like the non mask wearing but certain restrictions Such as closures are pretty impossible to not comply with!

No. The new variant is a cold. People need to move on now and get on with life. Vulnerable people can shield accordingly and should be supported to do so.

IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 01/01/2022 12:21

Traditionally this government does next to nothing about covid for as long as they think they are getting away with doing next to nothing.

The public's behaviour changes, testing shortages, and data delays have helped the government out in that respect because we wont see how bad things were now until the current infections lead to hospitalisations. Only test positivity is giving the game away.

If the people who caught covid from their families at Christmas start being carted off to hospital in large numbers this week that might prompt some action.

If not it'll be when those who caught covid at NYE celebrations last night go back to work and give it to their schoolmates, teachers, pupils, colleagues and customers etc. (So next week)

Keepgoing88 · 01/01/2022 13:17

@Pickledlipstick So do 1000s of people normally get admitted for a cold ?

KiloWhat · 01/01/2022 13:19

No its not. Don't be silly
jgw1 · 01/01/2022 13:23

No its not.

Oh yes it is

Is it panto season?

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2022 13:26

Let's hope people stay out of hospital of course , but covid isn't a 'normal ' illness at all.
The vaccines are also causing a few people to have health problems too as well as long covid too. It all can't be brushed away as the health Secretary would like it to be

He's probably reviewing his hangover as we speak, the lazy twat.
Booklover3 · 01/01/2022 13:45

The Tories don’t seem to have any plan on implementing any more restrictions. They’ve already said we need to learn to live with it.

I doubt there will be any other restrictions.

You realise that if fewer people were having vaccinations, and therefore problems caused by vaccines, that a LOT more people would be having problems caused by Covid?

Vaccination is a numbers game. I know that doesn’t help the ones who suffer from having a vaccine, but at the population level, vaccination massively reduces the impact of Covid.

MarshaBradyo · 01/01/2022 13:47

@Gechik

A review on Wednesday was mentioned on the BBC News
Ok
UserError012345 · 01/01/2022 13:57

I don't think we should be expecting anything too be announced.

We're all double jabbed and boosters done / in progress. Jobs a good un.

Plus it is nearly 6months on from freedom day, which was much heralded as an end to restrictions and a complete return to normal. Many people doubt what Boris says I know not why.
the80sweregreat · 01/01/2022 14:02

Yes, the vaccines are doing a good job ( mostly )
It's not as bad as it was this time last year , but I've heard of a few people having trouble with the boosters and ending up in hospital and long covid won't go away either , sadly :(
This will leave a covid legacy , no doubt.

batmanladybird · 01/01/2022 14:02
@Keepgoing88 that's exactly what I was thinking. Easy to say you won't comply (and I do get it) but your kids can't go to a shut school, you can't shop in a closed shop, you can't watch a production in a closed theatre. In reality, you have little power left. Rebel and have a few friends round, don't wear a face mask? Like everyone, I've had enough and with our government it's tempting to say I won't comply but it isn't about Boris. If the NHS are genuinely under pressure or even if a huge percentage of the population having it at one time would put a pressure on the country as a whole with areas of the country not being able to operate, then I feel I do have to comply.
Yes quite
