Apologies if this has already been posted, I had a quick look down the thread list and didn't see any title that suggested it had

OP posts:

@JohnSmithDrive

Why will no one talk about the fact that so many of the "no underlying condition" people are obese? It's been known for at least 18months and yet no public health campaign about it. No campaign about losing weight or the extra importance of having the vaccine if you're overweight
Huh? Do you walk around with ears shut and your eyes closed? It’s constantly mentioned - in the media, on here, by HCP’s etc. do you think fat people don’t know they’re fat?
Cornettoninja · 23/12/2021 18:00

@Xenia bollocks can’t you, you’re constantly doing it.

Starcup · 23/12/2021 18:01

**Will you please just check the actual data before you say this

It’s here www.icnarc.org/ and it’s not the majority.

If you are going to argue about vaccination, fine, but let’s not distort the numbers**

No…

You listen to this link that the OP has posted. Are they distorting the numbers? I don’t think so!!

If you want to go any argue your shight go ahead on the other thread. There plenty of like minded people like you.

HangingOutWithTheSandman · 23/12/2021 18:02

There have been loads of threads about selfish unvaccinated people. I haven’t seen any about selfish fat people. And with the amount of people calling unvaccinated people selfish, I’m betting they’re not all slim!

Winter2020 · 23/12/2021 18:04

Honeyhorse If you speak to your GP they may be able to prescribe you a single dose of diazepam to take before your jab. I think you might need to be accompanied to and from your jab then though I'm not sure.

Is your local GP practice offering the vaccine. That might be the closest/ easiest place to go.

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 23/12/2021 18:04

@Aishah231

Smells like bullshit to me. I'd like to know more about stats across the whole of Liverpool. They do only test the unvaccinated In hospital for covid you know so we don't really know if these people are in for covid or just also have it. We also don't know why they've all been placed in one ward.
They don't only test the unvaccinated. I was admitted recently and tested- triple vaccinated. They test everybody on admission.
hamstersarse · 23/12/2021 18:04

@Starcup

Ok, sounds rational

hamstersarse · 23/12/2021 18:08

Let’s face it, whether you are vaccinated or unvaccinated, it will be very rare for a non obese person to be in icu for covid.

Average BMI is 30

I get pretty angry at obese people who’ve taken the vaccine and somehow think they can be all superior to unvaccinated people who are young and slim. What planet are they living on….a vaccine is no guarantee if you are obese

Utter bollocks.

Will it help change peoples minds?

It feels very entrenched by now

Well, honestly, it’s the same old rubbish day after day.

The doctors and nurses are saying that the majority of people in their ICU are unvaccinated. What more evidence do you want?

If you think that hospital is a one then you’re delusional.

Starcup · 23/12/2021 18:13

a one off

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 23/12/2021 18:13

Nah. Facts and statistics don't mean anything to the true nutters. (who are not the same as a person who is unvaccinated, to be clear)
Cornettoninja · 23/12/2021 18:14

@MarshaBradyo

Nope.

If America is a benchmark for this stuff even people well known for being outspoken against the general acceptance of facts about covid, catching and dying from covid doesn’t change the core beliefs of those who aligned with them. Publicising the plight of strangers is going to make no difference whatsoever.

PickledLilly · 23/12/2021 18:14

A BMI of 23 isn’t even overweight let alone obese! My BMI is 22.2 and I’m 8 stone and a size 8, I admit I’m not tall but nevertheless, a BMI of 23 is within the healthy range.

DontWantTheRivalry · 23/12/2021 18:18

I can only see one overweight person in the clip tbh. It's way too hard to draw conclusions about any of the others.

This was my first thought too.

It meant whatever gravitas or strength of message they were trying to put across was immediately lost on me.

The concept of the clip would only really have worked if they’d shown people with a healthy BMI lying in the beds.

Unvaccinated people with a healthy BMI may just think it is the weight issue that is causing those people to be ventilated, not the fact they’re unvaccinated.

Soontobe60 · 23/12/2021 18:20

@HotPenguin

To be fair, it might not be their choice. Pregnant women were initially advised not to get vaccinated. Some people are allergic to the ingredients. If you're ill and miss your vaccine slot it can be hard to get another, especially if you don't drive.
Don’t make excuses. Pregnant women have been cleared for vaccination for months. Anyone allergic to the ingredients should be shielding as much as possible (as should those unvaccinated pregnant women you’re talking about) and walk in vaccination centres are all over the place. There’s NO excuse.
VolcanicEruption · 23/12/2021 18:21

I cannot understand the needle phobia I have had more painful paper cuts , staples paper clips, glass etc. Have you ever stood on Lego.
Have you ever been pregnant , I’ll, or require blood tests etc or gone to a country where some are required?

AdoptDontShop · 23/12/2021 18:22

@JohnSmithDrive I agree. Given that obesity is a huge risk factor why is this never mentioned.

AdoptDontShop · 23/12/2021 18:23

@Soontobe60 That is very harsh and selfish. Please don’t dismiss people’s phobias so blithely. Count yourself lucky not to have a needle phobia.

MarshaBradyo · 23/12/2021 18:24

Phobias aren’t rational

I don’t have needle phobia but to have other more well known ones

Harm or pain doesn’t really come into it

No, it sounds like you just don't understand phobias in general. They are irrational. For many people with trypanophobia, it is not about the pain at all.
MollyQueenOfSocks · 23/12/2021 18:25

They should probably report that this is actually happening at most of the Trusts in the country currently. The three near me are 90% unvaxxed covid patients.

This isn't just a Liverpool problem, it's everywhere.

Yahyahs22 · 23/12/2021 18:25

Don't forget you are classed as unvaccinated if you've had one or two shots.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/12/2021 18:26

Presumably there are threads specifically about the effect of being overweight/obese on covid? If not, maybe someone should start one? Hmm
It's two 'wrongs' don't make a right territory... but for most overweight people, losing weight is a long, hard process whereas for most people, getting a jab is pretty quick and easy.
