Apologies if this has already been posted, I had a quick look down the thread list and didn't see any title that suggested it had

There is a higher risk of myocarditis as a result of catching covid than as a result of having the vaccine.
JohnSmithDrive · 23/12/2021 17:43

Why will no one talk about the fact that so many of the "no underlying condition" people are obese? It's been known for at least 18months and yet no public health campaign about it. No campaign about losing weight or the extra importance of having the vaccine if you're overweight

BoredZelda · 23/12/2021 17:44

Pregnant women were initially advised not to get vaccinated. Some people are allergic to the ingredients. If you're ill and miss your vaccine slot it can be hard to get another, especially if you don't drive.

Vaccines have been available for most of this year. Apart from the very small number who can’t be vaccinated, anyone not vaccinated is making a choice.

BlueLines81 · 23/12/2021 17:45

I read an article yesterday which said of those who were young and unvaccinated and ended up in hospital with covid, 80% had a high BMI (over 23). And actually a high BMI is a massive risk factor even if you are vaccinated. It would be good to see a drive towards more public awareness of this, because it would free up a lot of beds.

BlueLines81 · 23/12/2021 17:46

Cross post @JohnSmithDrive

Piggyinblankets · 23/12/2021 17:46

I can only see one overweight person in the clip tbh. It's way too hard to draw conclusions about any of the others.

Mreggsworth · 23/12/2021 17:47

@AdoptDontShop

You are much more likely to get myocarditis from covid than the vaccine.

Lots of medications can cause myocarditis too, Including antibiotics.

Only 23? Overweight starts at a BMI of 25. 23 is not high at all.
Piggyinblankets · 23/12/2021 17:48

A BMI of 23 is in the healthy range!!

ErrolTheDragon · 23/12/2021 17:48

This smells of government propaganda to me.

It's information (not misinformation) from local government and health officials.
Because they want their population not to suffer avoidable, unnecessary illness and death.
That seems entirely laudable to me.

Why would you use the pejorative term 'propaganda'?ConfusedHmm

Toddlerteaplease · 23/12/2021 17:49

No one is automatically turned away from ICU. A decision is made about wether that level
If care is appropriate for that particular person. If ICU is deemed appropriate, a bed will be found somewhere. For many elderly people. ICU is not appropriate.

oftenbaffled · 23/12/2021 17:49

@HotPenguin

To be fair, it might not be their choice. Pregnant women were initially advised not to get vaccinated. Some people are allergic to the ingredients. If you're ill and miss your vaccine slot it can be hard to get another, especially if you don't drive.
It’s them that’s being unfair NOT us for thinking they are being selfish and daft

The advice for pregnant women was changed many months ago and there was a fierce campaign to get the message out that it was very important for pregnant women to be vaccinated

If you’re ill and miss if… you re bloody book. It’s not hard at all.

If you don’t drive, you get public transport just as you do for working, shopping, socialising. If you are disabled and unable to, the vaccine is administered in your home.

One word. Excuses

Claudethecat · 23/12/2021 17:49

I thought BMI 23 was in the normal range, although obviously close to overweight? Do you have a link Bluelines? My BMI hovers around 23/24!

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 23/12/2021 17:49

@Watapalava

Because they often don't have the provision available given they made room last winter. Staffing issues for ventilation beds. Also they know more about outcomes now and basically they know who's going to take a ventilation bed for weeks and not survive so they don't even get offered one
Honestly, roses would love you
XenoBitch · 23/12/2021 17:50

@Honeyhorse

I’m 32 and unvaccinated because of a severe needle phobia, but trying my best to work up the courage to go after Christmas. I’m terrified of the jab and terrified of ending up in ICU.
Same here (and have seen you comment elsewhere about it too). I hope you feel strong enough in the new year. Lots of us fellow needle phobes will be rooting for you .

Because they are clearly an anti-vaxxer. I have reported.
Hercisback · 23/12/2021 17:51

@Honeyhorse 15 miles isn't an outrageous distance, it makes sense to have bigger centres from an economic pov.

JohnSmithDrive · 23/12/2021 17:53

@Watapalava

I'm local to here and know a nurse in this ICU. To clarify:

Most in ICU are younger given older people with comorbitities often are not prioritised for ICU - doctors are making decisions as to who gets such treatment. This is 100% happening which many don't realise.

Most young people unvaccinated I know wont change their mind as theyve dug their heels in too much - most just being stubborn now and wanting to save face

It's not that the elderly aren't prioritised it's that doctors know the likely outcome and if it's not going to help them, why would you put them through the trauma?
Aishah231 · 23/12/2021 17:53

Smells like bullshit to me. I'd like to know more about stats across the whole of Liverpool. They do only test the unvaccinated In hospital for covid you know so we don't really know if these people are in for covid or just also have it. We also don't know why they've all been placed in one ward.

oftenbaffled · 23/12/2021 17:53

@Honeyhorse

I didn’t want to do the drop in clinic as it means queuing up. I wanted to book an appointment so I could have time to build up to it…but when I looked on the NHS website it said the nearest place to book was 15 miles away!
Wtf

No words

Because we can’t fat shame but it’s apparently ok to vaccine shame. It’s very fucked up.

They say most of the people in ICU are unvaccinated when actually there’s another common factor amongst them..they're mostly all fat. But that gets ignored. They know that many people aren’t willing to look after themselves day in day out cos they want to eat crap, in huge portions, but they’ll have a vaccine. Then the healthy, slim unvaccinated people have to listen to fat vaccinated people saying they’re selfish. Like I say, it’s fucked up.

You don't drive? I would happily drive a friend/colleague/neighbour there - anyone you can ask?
XenoBitch · 23/12/2021 17:55

*Wtf

No words*

Oh, you must have a car then, or be ok getting public transport... or can afford a taxi. Not everyone is as fortunate.

oftenbaffled · 23/12/2021 17:59

If this person is so crippled by diagnosed anxiety that she never leaves her home,
She would be eligible for an at home vaccine

Xenia · 23/12/2021 17:59

It is there chioce just as the NHS treats the obese, those who cause their cancer from smoking, those who cause their own diabetes through sugar, and accidents via motor bikes (my doctor father worked in A&E for a time and motor bikes were the worst).

Unvaccinated people v obese people eg - who causes the most cost to the NHS? We all know the answer but as 50% of the UK is over weight we cannot criticise the overweight but people have no problem criticising those of us who have chosen not to have the vaccine.
