Apologies if this has already been posted, I had a quick look down the thread list and didn't see any title that suggested it had

@Xenia

It is there chioce just as the NHS treats the obese, those who cause their cancer from smoking, those who cause their own diabetes through sugar, and accidents via motor bikes (my doctor father worked in A&E for a time and motor bikes were the worst).

Unvaccinated people v obese people eg - who causes the most cost to the NHS? We all know the answer but as 50% of the UK is over weight we cannot criticise the overweight but people have no problem criticising those of us who have chosen not to have the vaccine.

We are not going to solve the obesity epidemic until the the health service funds enough mental health services, as so much overeating is due to psychological factors. You can't just treat the symptoms, you have to treat the cause!

@Aishah231

Smells like bullshit to me. I'd like to know more about stats across the whole of Liverpool. They do only test the unvaccinated In hospital for covid you know so we don't really know if these people are in for covid or just also have it. We also don't know why they've all been placed in one ward.
Everyone in hospital is covid tested regularly. Your vaccination status makes no difference
lemmein · 23/12/2021 18:28

God threads like this are so fucking smug. All the faux sympathy is nauseating. Let me guess, before they were all intubated they grabbed the nurses arm and said 'I wish I'd had the vaccine now!' 🙄

MarshaBradyo · 23/12/2021 18:28

@Yahyahs22

Don't forget you are classed as unvaccinated if you've had one or two shots.
Where does this come from?
LakieLady · 23/12/2021 18:29

@Honeyhorse

I’m 32 and unvaccinated because of a severe needle phobia, but trying my best to work up the courage to go after Christmas. I’m terrified of the jab and terrified of ending up in ICU.
If it helps, when I had my booster I quite literally didn't feel a thing. I was gobsmacked when the nurse said "There you are, all done."

And they do it in the back of your arm, so you can easly avoid even seeing the needle.

Sowhatifiam · 23/12/2021 18:30

I wonder how many of them have underlying conditions?

Why? Does that make the death of someone under the age of 50 OK?

banjaxxed · 23/12/2021 18:31

'Don't forget you are classed as unvaccinated if you've had one or two shots'

No, you're not that's total bollocks

lemmein · 23/12/2021 18:31

People have always died under 50 - it's not a new thing.
NotTerfNorCis · 23/12/2021 18:33

They say all patients on the ward are between the ages of 30 and 40 - with not one vaccinated against the deadly virus.

Just wow. Shows the vaccines work, if true.

LakieLady · 23/12/2021 18:35

@Honeyhorse

I didn’t want to do the drop in clinic as it means queuing up. I wanted to book an appointment so I could have time to build up to it…but when I looked on the NHS website it said the nearest place to book was 15 miles away!
I was having the same problem, but when I went to the GP for a blood test, the nurse told me they were doing them at another surgery in town.

It was brilliant, they had 3 nurses and were doing 3 people at a time. My appointment was at 9.48 (?), I got there at 9.45, there were 2 people in front of me and we went in almost straight away.

It probably took less then 5 minutes altogether.

ifonly4 · 23/12/2021 18:35

Apparently we had 11 patients in critical care a couple of weeks ago and none were vaccinated - very sad.

Most people during their lifetimes will have a serious illness, whether cancer, stroke, heart problems. We're all going through a pandemic together at the same time, and vaccination is one thing that really helps no matter who you are and any existing risks. Those that aren't vaccinated are impacting on the way the rest of us can live our lives, as you can't just magic up new hospitals, it takes years of training to become a health professional and in reality most of us don't want to pay much more into the system.

We've all had a chance to get our act together and do what we can to protect ourselves and support eachother. I was really scared about the vaccine. Once I got my head around it, I had such a buzz and sense of relief after the first one. I've gone on and had my second jab and booster, and very grateful. I'm ok weight wise, but diet wasn't great - covid did me a favour I'm improved my diet. I've always done a fair amount of exercise (nothing heavy) but I've increased this. Basically I've done what I can.

Sowhatifiam · 23/12/2021 18:37

a vaccine is no guarantee if you are obese

Nor is it a guarantee if you are slim.

User762980 · 23/12/2021 18:37

A BMI of 23 is classed as overweight for Asian populations.

This article was on the BBC news and the way it was filmed it looked like propaganda.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 23/12/2021 18:37

The ‘ vulnerable’ now is the unvaccinated, I get the unable to for various reasons I also get the phobias ( although it is the tiniest of needles) . I don’t get is the we don’t know what’s in the vaccine it’s not tested etc . The irony is if they do end up in hospital they’ll be on a cocktail of drugs which they’re not going to say ‘are you ok with this ‘ that will perhaps save their life . I think I’ll take my chances on the vaccine thanks .

Are you also a terrible human being in real life?

CaliforniaDrumming · 23/12/2021 18:38

@ErrolTheDragon

Presumably there are threads specifically about the effect of being overweight/obese on covid? If not, maybe someone should start one? Hmm It's two 'wrongs' don't make a right territory... but for most overweight people, losing weight is a long, hard process whereas for most people, getting a jab is pretty quick and easy.
There is no one on MN who has declined the vaccine and will admit to having a BMI over 21, I think. Everybody is always incredibly slim, fit, non smoker/drinker, county level athlete, only eats organic, etc etc. Really doesn't square with the general state of health in the UK but there you have it. Everyone is Gwyneth Paltrow.
CaliforniaDrumming · 23/12/2021 18:40

@Takemine have you heard of sarcasm?

User762980 · 23/12/2021 18:41

To be honest if you are in your 30s and have a BMI over 23 you are probably a little bit fat as BMI is very generous

BoredZelda · 23/12/2021 18:41

Unvaccinated people v obese people eg - who causes the most cost to the NHS?

The issue right now isn’t cost though, is it?

Takemine · 23/12/2021 18:43

18:40CaliforniaDrumming

Yes. You're not very good at it.

CaliforniaDrumming · 23/12/2021 18:44

You would think we were not discussing a transmissible disease and discussing something like diabetes.
Cornettoninja · 23/12/2021 18:44

@CaliforniaDrumming I have to say, considering we’re nearing 90% of the eligible population receiving their first vaccine that MN seems over representative of those who are steadfastly declining vaccination.

User762980 · 23/12/2021 18:46

Are you counted as vaccinated if you have had 2 AZ 6 months ago but no booster.

me4real · 23/12/2021 18:47

Often in stories like this, they describe as healthy/no underlying conditions, people who are obese, which is a risk factor.

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 23/12/2021 18:47

@VolcanicEruption

I cannot understand the needle phobia I have had more painful paper cuts , staples paper clips, glass etc. Have you ever stood on Lego. Have you ever been pregnant , I’ll, or require blood tests etc or gone to a country where some are required?
I have a different phobia. It's not rational at all. You can talk and talk at me about how I shouldn't be afraid etc etc, but I am.

anybody, even pregnant people and ill people can refuse blood tests and injections, I assume.
