Apologies if this has already been posted, I had a quick look down the thread list and didn't see any title that suggested it had

@VolcanicEruption

I cannot understand the needle phobia I have had more painful paper cuts , staples paper clips, glass etc. Have you ever stood on Lego. Have you ever been pregnant , I’ll, or require blood tests etc or gone to a country where some are required?
Can’t you? @VolcanicEruption

I have no fear of needles but I couldn’t walk in a room if someone was going to put a tarantula in my hand once I got in there.

PP feels that way about needles. A phobia is a phobia, it is irrational. Is there nothing you are scared of?

@User762980

To be honest if you are in your 30s and have a BMI over 23 you are probably a little bit fat as BMI is very generous
Fuck off no it isn't!! I'm a size 10-12 when I have a bmi of 24 yes that's fat Hmm
me4real · 23/12/2021 18:48

Are you counted as vaccinated if you have had 2 AZ 6 months ago but no booster.

@User762980 Yes, they haven't yet said that people need to have had jab 3 to count as vaccinated.

CaliforniaDrumming · 23/12/2021 18:49
@CaliforniaDrumming I have to say, considering we’re nearing 90% of the eligible population receiving their first vaccine that MN seems over representative of those who are steadfastly declining vaccination.
I agree with that. And at one point, maybe even a couple of months ago, I thought that huge percentage would be enough. But seemingly it is not.

me4real · 23/12/2021 18:50

@User762980 No, 23 is fine. Unless someone is Asian- as they tend to be at higher risk for diabetes etc, so they're counted as having an overly high BMI at 23. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-23143010#:~:text=Its%20new%20guidelines%20say%20Asian,at%20least%20lower%20than%2025.

me4real · 23/12/2021 18:53

@VolcanicEruption I run away from wasps, even though I know objectively that they're fairly harmless (I don't have an allergy to the sting or anything.)

And I don't like being around knives (except butterknives) swords etc.

DumplingsAndStew · 23/12/2021 18:56

Fucking hell.

Apparently by posting this I am "smug" and its "government propaganda"?????

Because we all know its just fat fucks who end up in ICU and the old people don't matter, because they're so ill they're gonna die anyway, so they get to bypass ICU and head straight to the morgue.

Some of you are delusional. This place has turned into an absolute cesspool of conspiracy and othering.

It's fucking sickening.

megletthesecond · 23/12/2021 18:56

The government can't do a health kick campaign because Johnsons own health kick never got off the ground.

visitingagain · 23/12/2021 18:58

What a horrible thread this has become.
Just a quick reminder - about 28% of British people are overweight. (Funnily enough a similar percentage to South Africa.)
However, it's the unvaccinated ones, no matter what their BMI, who are in hospital in the article.
Some of the die hard anti vaxxers on here are getting absolutely desperate now.

Nanny0gg · 23/12/2021 18:58

@Headingnorthwoste

Awful- those poor NHS staff

Of course I do also have sympathy with the patients. They took a gamble and it ended badly for them. How very sad.

I hope other people who have refused the vaccine will change their mind.

I don't.

It wasn't only their health they were gambling with

PinkTonic · 23/12/2021 18:58

@Watapalava

I'm local to here and know a nurse in this ICU. To clarify:

Most in ICU are younger given older people with comorbitities often are not prioritised for ICU - doctors are making decisions as to who gets such treatment. This is 100% happening which many don't realise.

Most young people unvaccinated I know wont change their mind as theyve dug their heels in too much - most just being stubborn now and wanting to save face

I would really love to know what constitutes older and qualifies as a co morbidity, in other words who is being thrown to the wolves in order to prioritise the terminally stupid.

So much utter rubbish being spouted on this thread. Spurious figures quoted as facts. I honestly don't know why Mumsnet allow these threads to continue.

MarshmallowFondant · 23/12/2021 19:01

A family member is in their late 20s and lives in Liverpool. Has had one jab, won't be getting the second. Cannot articulate why. Just doesn't want to. Common belief among the circle of friends, many are unvaxxed, or partially vaxxed (which pretty much counts as the same thing).

No needle phobia. Not pregnant or intending to be pregnant. Just a bit thick and uneducated, surrounded by other similarly thick and uneducated friends who all act as an echo chamber for each other.

visitingagain · 23/12/2021 19:03

Sorry OP @DumplingsAndStew I reported you by mistake, I read your sarcastic post and thought it was one of the really horrible things that had been said on here. Please don't put her in @MumsnetHQ jail 🙏🏻

@Aishah231

Smells like bullshit to me. I'd like to know more about stats across the whole of Liverpool. They do only test the unvaccinated In hospital for covid you know so we don't really know if these people are in for covid or just also have it. We also don't know why they've all been placed in one ward.
This makes no sense. Everyone who is admitted to hospital has a PCR test. I was in a month ago with an accidental overdose, so completely unrelated to covid, and still had a PCR done.

I doubt doctors would be saying the ICU is full of unvaccinated people if they were there for other reasons, completely unrelated to COVID.

No one is saying the picture is like this across Liverpool, so that point is moot. Don't you think they may all have been placed in one ward because they all have COVID? Hmm Something to do with it being highly contagious and potentially lethal?

Nanny0gg · 23/12/2021 19:06

@Honeyhorse

I’m 32 and unvaccinated because of a severe needle phobia, but trying my best to work up the courage to go after Christmas. I’m terrified of the jab and terrified of ending up in ICU.
I wouldn't call it a phobia but I am scared of needles.

I have a lot of dentist appts coming up and an op.

The vaccination was a walk in the park.

Go in, explain how you feel (they are very understanding) Grit your teeth and get it done

Hi @Honeyhorse, my dd has severe needle phobia and is autistic. She managed to agree to an appointment and I went with her. She was terrified but very brave and had it. You don’t see a needle and it takes maybe 5 seconds? She did experience a sharp pain with her first but didn’t even feel her second (once she’d had the first she was much less anxious re her second).

I know it’s easy to say (and my phobia is spiders so if I had to have one on me for 5 seconds not sure I could do it!), but please do your best to get vaccinated, for your own sake xx

HangingOutWithTheSandman · 23/12/2021 19:11

If people in hospital are unvaccinated AND overweight/obese, then that should be talked about.

If someone is doing everything they can to reduce their risk of covid, so they’re vaccinated, slim, non smoker etc, and are also doing everything else to minimise their burden to the NHS, then maybe they can preach. Until then...🤷🏻‍♀️

CallmeHendricksGingleBells · 23/12/2021 19:12

@PinkTonic Good question. I would hazard a guess that an awful lot of people have no idea that they might qualify under the "underlying conditions" bracket.

I have found that covid has cured me of all my squeamishness around needles, blood, swabs etc.

Because it's easier to treat??
