What day do you think we are likely to go into lockdown if another one is introduced?

We have our wedding day on the 27th but I can't say it's looking too promising. Anybody know when they are planning on making an announcement?

My work needs a lock down. I feel so sad going into work at the moment. I work with children who have cancer and obviously they're high risk for catching Covid. Their families have done everything they can but most have caught it through siblings at school. It's so depressing at the moment

Cybercubed · 19/12/2021 03:01

Are we going to be having lockdowns every year now? Seems like it, seems like even some people want that to be the case.

I was all for the full lockdown in 2020 when we didn't have a vaccine, but I can't see how this is sustainable long term doing this every year.

lemmein · 19/12/2021 03:09

@LaurieFairyCake

Well a circuit breaker is a lockdown

A 2 week lockdown

The amouse bouche of lockdowns HmmGrin

I read that in Del-Boys voice 😂
Youaremypenguin · 19/12/2021 03:46

@jimmyhill

Lockdown "more stringent measures" will take effect from the 28th because the 27th is a Bank Holiday
What's a bank holiday got to do with it?

I think asap is needed. We have low rates of Omicron at the moment but the movement of people due to Christmas is going to bring it with them. In 2 weeks we'll be equally swamped by it. I personally think people movement and large venues need to be restricted now.

I don't say this lightly as both measures will turn our plans upside down. We have family coming, gatherings planned and a hotel booking and event booked within the next fortnight. We are part of the problem.

Pixxie7 · 19/12/2021 03:54

It will have to be announced this week as Christmas is over 4 days, so if they intend to have a circuit break next week, I can’t see when they will announce it. It’s would probably be a waste of time anyway I am not sure how many people would follow it.

Youaremypenguin · 19/12/2021 03:57

@Blinkingbatshit

I don’t want a lockdown but sadly I think it’s plainly obvious from the numbers that we need one😩. I think so many don’t understand that the aim of a lockdown isn’t just to ‘save lives’ it’s actually to prevent infrastructure collapse - number 1 the nhs, 2 the police, 3 prison service etc etc….if there are too many off sick all these services will stop….and where does that leave us? OP, I’m so sorry, I think it’s possible you’ll get your day as I reckon they’re trying to get through Christmas and then bring in restrictions….obviously there’s no guarantee. Wishing you all the best💐

This! Its not about politics and principal it's about keeping the country's essential services moving. Workers get sick and have to isolate as well. Whose going treat the sick, care for the elderly and protect the public if everyone's isolating with covid?

Newnameobviously · 19/12/2021 04:44

I'm on tenterhooks too but when I calm down and breath I hope it won't happen. I complied fully with all of the lockdowns but now I am fit and strong, double jabbed and boosted I am willing to take my chances. If a died in the wool ruler keeper like me would break them to see my kids and BFFs I don't think it is worth making the rules.

I had a Christmas 'gathering' for friends earlier. In non CoVid days I would expect 12-14 guests. This year I had 3, all double vaxxed, boosted and clear on lateral flow tests. We kept windows open and felt safe. Other people declined the invitation because they were keeping out of circulation to be safe for Christmas. If people are self regulating as efficiently as that there is no need for further restrictions.

KatherineJaneway · 19/12/2021 06:34

IMO they will not lockdown again. They might ask households not to mix or limit mixing , or bring back in social distancing etc.

If they do this they will announce 27th and put into place from the 29th, they have to give people time to get home if they are away for Christmas.

FanGirlX · 19/12/2021 07:41

@5zeds

Illegal immigrants???? Do you mean refugees *@milly74* ? Surely you can’t be “illegal” if you are applying for asylum?
I suppose it depends on whether the claim for asylum is valid or not. Some are genuine asylum seekers, others are illegal economic migrants. It's complex.
FanGirlX · 19/12/2021 07:47

@Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas

Being selfish I don't mind January lock down. It saved driving in bad conditions, in the dark and it was fantastic to be safe and not have the stress every day of being in "lock down" but having to work??

I would be happy with a few weeks in January. It's my worst month and I don't mind hunkering down.
That's being totally selfish of course.

I agree. Jan / Feb are usually the worst conditions for driving. Also I don't tend to have much on in those months. Although I'd be unhappy if my gym closed down. That's being selfish though, not everyone has that luxury - frontline workers, delivery drivers etc still have to be out.

Less of a hit to the economy too as people are generally out less and spending less in Jan / Feb too.

Well, if hospitality, non-essential retail and so forth is closed, there won’t be a choice really will there?
paranoidnamechanger · 19/12/2021 11:25

Well, if hospitality, non-essential retail and so forth is closed, there won’t be a choice really will there?

But they won’t be, we’re heading for a circuit break, not a lockdown Confused

BoredZelda · 19/12/2021 15:17

No, they are all genuine asylum seekers. Whether they are approved or not doesn’t change that.

Mossstitch · 19/12/2021 15:51

@LaurieFairyCake 'amouse bouche of lockdowns'........... 👏👏🤣😂🤣😂 You got my kind of humour💐

No but they still do have to apply.
StarCat2020 · 19/12/2021 19:44

No but they still do have to apply

Correct but in the same way you are innocent of a crime until PROVEN guilty they are all asylum seekers until their application has been rejected.

It isn’t up to us to judge.

Yes I just meant that some don't apply. They just enter countries without the authorities knowing about it, or disappear.

Best put down the Daily Mail.

5zeds · 20/12/2021 07:33

@FanGirlX I suppose it depends on whether the claim for asylum is valid or not. Some are genuine asylum seekers, others are illegal economic migrants. It's complex.. No it’s not really that “complex” you haven’t committed a crime by being refused asylum. You just haven’t been granted asylum. It’s a bit like if you were raped and didn’t either get to court and/or manage to get a conviction, doesn’t make you guilty of anything or any less of a victim. What it means is your evidence wasn’t conclusive enough for a case to be brought or the perpetrator to be convicted.

Christmas itself was always going to be okay (unpalatable for Boris politically to bring in restrictions after all their parties last year).

Hopefully you're okay for the 27th.

Againstmachine · 21/12/2021 17:43

Hopefully you're okay for the 27th.

These days these have to go through parliament for lockdowns ect.

They are leaving it too late for that in general.

Great news, have a lovely wedding!
AliceA2021 · 21/12/2021 20:08

@Fishlipandtoeface

Depends. Do you like having a police force and ambulances etc?
I agree it depends on how many staff turn up for work in the emergency services/frontline workers/etc. I understand that some businesses in London and areas hit hardest are struggling for staff and so closed.

Cannot work if no staff in.
