UK lockdown

What day do you think we are likely to go into lockdown if another one is introduced?

We have our wedding day on the 27th but I can't say it's looking too promising. Anybody know when they are planning on making an announcement?

OP posts:

Just rewatched a news report from June where Boris clearly said several times that the easing of restrictions were irreversible.

That didn’t last long did it with the recent plan B restrictions and whatever they currently planning to impose on us, whilst doing what they wish themselves.

Samii89 · 18/12/2021 23:37

@jgw1 LOL Grin

Veeveeoxox · 18/12/2021 23:38

The country will be fucked financially for the next decade at best if they carry on the lockdowns and furlough into 2022 inflation is already rocketing.

They have some hard decisions to make I don't think a lockdown is viable compliance will be low and we really don't have the funds.

Unless he is announcing a specific change in restrictions that is happening immediately, I don’t think there’s any point listening to what he says.

I think the key is probably not to believe the pandemic is over because the Prime Minister picked a date in July and told you it was.

MeanderingGently · 19/12/2021 00:06

We haven't got the funds for a complete lockdown, it will break the country, the economy and many individuals. If people are sensible with their masks, social distancing and so on, we might manage a Christmas at least.
Tighter restrictions in January, possibly. I really think we've had enough lockdowns and I'm personally hoping we don't have one.

IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 19/12/2021 00:12

We're all hoping we don't have one @MeanderingGently

But we are where we are.

We've let another variant in and dithered over doing anything to stop it spreading.

Numbers aren't going up so fast because of us changing our behaviour - but I don't think it can turn this around now.

And the other thing to consider is that government restrictions usually come with protections for businesses.

What uncontrolled covid is doing to the hospitality industry and football at the moment will spread to other industries such as travel and sport and leisure as the wave worsens.

@Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas

Being selfish I don't mind January lock down. It saved driving in bad conditions, in the dark and it was fantastic to be safe and not have the stress every day of being in "lock down" but having to work??

I would be happy with a few weeks in January. It's my worst month and I don't mind hunkering down.
That's being totally selfish of course.

Yeah, totally selfish and also completely fucking tapped. Saved driving in bad conditions? You can’t be serious.

I thought the key was getting stabbed in the arm with a vaccine every 3 months for a disease 98% of people survived but that's just me
milly74 · 19/12/2021 00:43

LOL if they think we will comply with a ban on indoor mixing.

milly74 · 19/12/2021 00:45

Incidentally lets address the elephant in the room. Another 900 arrivals through Dover last night......identity checked/covid checked/tested before arrival? I think not.
the joke is on us people

Nousernameforme · 19/12/2021 00:47

It's not going to lockdown we just won't be allowed to meet people indoors. They won't put furlough back so can't lock down entirely as wont be able to survive on nothing.
OP maybe theres a marquee and some patio heaters the venue can knock up quickly if it does effect your wedding

In the words of Ms Lauper

I see your true colours shining through….

Let me guess, Milly short for Millwall? 👀

milly74 · 19/12/2021 00:50

You see I hate that. Instant accusation of racism. Original not!
valid concerns I would say
When our NHS is failing, our education systems, are creaking, housing shortages, failing in social care oh and a raging pandemic, but I can't have an issue with 27,500 and counting illegal migrants?

I really hope it’s not til the 30th at the earliest. We’ve got a U.K. break booked from the 27th - 30th - it’s quite outdoorsy and comparatively Covid safe but I could do with going.

Go to bed and sober up, you’re embarrassing yourself
5zeds · 19/12/2021 01:22

Illegal immigrants???? Do you mean refugees @milly74 ? Surely you can’t be “illegal” if you are applying for asylum?

milly74 · 19/12/2021 01:39

You really need to wake up to the reality here.

sjxoxo · 19/12/2021 01:55

Have been watching from France the situation in the UK; the no obligation for masks has been total insanity.

There’s a concern there about taking peoples freedoms but the end result is you may lose more freedom not less! A viral pandemic doesn’t care about your RW political trends.

…currently pregnant with baby 1; due mid Jan. Coming to the realisation that my parents won’t be able to be here with me for it ☹️ Devastated. It’s their first grandchild too.

Here they could still come to visit at hospital etc. Masks obligation and the covid pass still going strong. Which approach gives them more freedom? The last couple of Months of ‘total freedom’ in the UK but now stuck inside the UK & likely to have some sort of non-lockdown-lockdown, or being able to go out & about as we can here, only nightclubs closed, with a pass on your phone & a mask on?? Xo

Will you be having a fried egg or a pineapple ring with that?
antisocialsocialclub · 19/12/2021 02:06

Will people follow the rules? Rule of six when we are all fully vaccinateDd? You have to be kidding. Stopping people having family over when they have had so many missed meetings and everyone is fully vaxxed plus we have lateral flow tests. Again - you must be kidding

This is Omicron, being vaccinated against the other strains is pointless. Unless you’ve had the booster 7-14 days ago (enough time for it to become effective) you can catch it and/or pass it on.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 19/12/2021 02:07

No, you do. You are intentionally steering the debate into a completely seperate issue to suit your own agenda.

The last few months of total freedom in England have been a success and the predictions of doom did not materialise. Compare case rates in England with no restrictions to Scotland and Wales where various restrictions remained, and then tell me whether the Scottish and Welsh restrictions made any meaningful difference?

The only thing which has changed things now is Omicron. Omicron is in France too and growing similarly fast, but you are just a week or two behind on the curve due to slower initial seeding from southern Africa. Come back and compare the situation in a week or two.

Kshhuxnxk · 19/12/2021 02:28

I am totally opposed to any lockdown but when it happens there better be no bloody football, rugby, tennis etc, if we're doing it we're all doing it.
