What day do you think we are likely to go into lockdown if another one is introduced?

We have our wedding day on the 27th but I can't say it's looking too promising. Anybody know when they are planning on making an announcement?

Any qualified scientists on here tonight with an opinion? Should a 2w circuit breaker take place and if so, why delay until after Christmas?

OP where in the UK are you? I have a feeling that England may be less stringent than the other nations and weddings might still go ahead with reduced numbers. It’s just a hunch. I really really hope you manage to get married.

Just seen this! Looks like no decision has been made yet - fingers crossed.

Thank you! We're in Lincolnshire. Hopefully, we would be happy to scale it back. Just really would love our special day. But I completely understand that there are other things more important at the same time.

What a time to be living en haha! Rally thought we'd be out of this be now!

I think Boris will resign in the next few days and his replacement will announce some sort of lockdown. That way the Tories don’t lose quite so much face!

NoNameHere12 · 18/12/2021 21:41

Hahah it was supposed to be a few weeks on the first lockdown and look how that went. It won’t be a few weeks that’s for sure!

lightisnotwhite · 18/12/2021 21:41

What happens to flights in a circuit breaker. Are people allowed out?

Stopsnowing · 18/12/2021 21:42

I am not worried about a lockdown. I am sure I can find a party that will be happening somewhere in some government office if I need a bit of fun.

IWannaWishYouANutNutsChristmas · 18/12/2021 21:42

@ninadust

Thanks for everyone's replies. I have messaged the venue to look at alternative options just in case. Can only keep positive at this point but it's completely and utterly shit :( i'm pregnant too so this was really the only time we could have the wedding before baby!
It really is shit.

I'm so sorry for you.

I hope the government let us know soon so people in situations like yours can make decisions and plans.

paranoidnamechanger · 18/12/2021 21:44

@GreenLunchBox

What's the difference between a circuit breaker and a lockdown?
Hospitality and non-essential shops close in a lockdown.
BrutusMcDogface · 18/12/2021 21:45

I didn’t mind the lockdown in January personally, as I was at work (teaching in special school) and my kids were at their schools.

I will be apoplectic if they do what they did then, though; let the kids go back to school for one day and then let them go to bed oblivious that the next day, there would be no school for months!! The damage that would do if it happened again would be completely irreversible for some of my pupils.

52andblue · 18/12/2021 21:46

I'm in Scotland. My son's College moved to online learning last Tuesday. Lots of folks I know are only socialising outside & changing plans pre Xmas. Kids are sitting their Mocks in Feb for Highers. Teachers have been told they can volunteer to break isolation rules to keep staff numbers up. Empty shelves in local Co Op again. Deja vu !

paranoidnamechanger · 18/12/2021 21:47

Where did you think "highest cases of the pandemic and doubling fast" was going?

Hospitalisations are still fairly low. Case numbers don’t matter as much.

BrutusMcDogface · 18/12/2021 21:47

I hope your wedding goes ahead, op. I also hope they put us out of our misery soon and tell us wtf is going on.

💐💐💐

We are not going to go into lockdown, freedom day has passed the pandemic is over.

I don’t think waiting until after Christmas would be a scientific decision, but a political/social one.

mumwon · 18/12/2021 21:52

My concern is dh is having his first face to face appointment with cardiology just after Christmas - he really needs this check up because I think things are not going to well & I think it will be cancelled
I am equally sure many other people are in similar situation & really worried & so many people are seeing their appointment slide further & further behind - so many in pain so many at risk
& I DO NOT blame the NHS - but its really worrying

Normandy144 · 18/12/2021 21:52

They had better not. I have got panto on the 28th!!!

Oh no you haven't.
Benjispruce5 · 18/12/2021 21:54

So many will be shocked because they don’t follow the news and they have been declaring that they are ‘done’ with Covid. Well, it’s not done with us unfortunately.

Changechangychange · 18/12/2021 21:55

@AnyFucker

Even on this thread, it appears people are ready for lockdown

Why ???????

How do you mean “ready”? I don’t think anyone wants it, but a lot of us are resigned to it. They aren’t going to get to a million cases a day and do nothing, are they? That isn’t doom-mongering, it’s noticing which way the wind is blowing.

That is really worrying. I really hope the appointment still goes ahead and everything is okay!

You’d be a fool to think it wasn’t coming soon. I really hope your wedding can go ahead but personally think lockdown should start tonight.
Me too. We have a wedding to go to on the 27th also but have already let the couple know that we don't think it's safe to go. DH is CEV.
Liz1tummypain · 18/12/2021 21:56

27th . Just my thought

MN is far keener on lockdowns/prohibitions than any of my IRL friends/acquaintances

It won’t ever be done with us. But I’m done with it and the hysteria and propaganda. Maybe there’s a small chance it could kill me but in the meantime I’ve got a life to lead.
