UK lockdown

What day do you think we are likely to go into lockdown if another one is introduced?

We have our wedding day on the 27th but I can't say it's looking too promising. Anybody know when they are planning on making an announcement?

It will be either two days before the schools are due to go back or one day after.

Can't give schools any guidance or chance to get organised. (sarcasm maybe)

Personally I will never again follow any restriction on social interaction.

Let's hope that you and your family don't need ambulances, police, cancer care etc in the next few months then because these circuit breakers are designed to slow it down to help the NHS not eradicate it. In our local hospital they have just had to open another Covid ward as the current ones are full. That's a ward that would take patients for other things normally

Is it not a bit mad to be testing to check for an infection you'd otherwise think was a cold? And then we're al supposed to shut down to prevent the unpreventable with no exit strategy at all.

Watching this surge of cases from Omicron around the world- surely this doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone, right?

The public can not be relied upon to help control the spread adequately so the only alternative is a lockdown. You only have to read the I will not comply idiots on here to understand this is going to be an ongoing issue for some time.

Besides, a new variant was always a get out clause for lockdown in the ‘pathway to freedom unlocking, living with Covid’ fantasy.

Restrictions on hospitality and large events? Probably. But a 'lockdown' in the sense of 'only leave your home for essential reasons', with schools and all but 'essential' retail closed? I really don't think so.

Do you have an A list and a B list of guests? 🙈 How many are you having? Really hope you just make it through in time!
Haha we don't - but maybe that's a good idea to start one! We have 70 day guests coming and around 100 in the evening. Probably won't be able to have that many if restrictions do come in though!

Probably a ' lockdown lite' ?
Can't pay out any money so we are doing it this way instead. Get a booster ! Save life's but don't ask us for any cash!

I am so angry that we are in this situation.

Germany has just banned people from the UK, as well as France.

If we had been a little more responsible, keeping mask wearing and requiring proof of vaccines to enter venues, as some other countries did, I really think we would not be in this situation now.

Boris and his fucking Tory cronies have so much to answer to. What is the point in 'freedom' not to wear a mask if the eventual consequence is another greater restriction on our movements.

Utterly, utterly pathetic. We should never have stopped mask wearing.

Actually, we don't know what we are having or if we are even having it at all. Until there's an official announcement, it's all just speculation.

But lots of people are pretty much voluntarily locking themselves down anyway aren't they? And the infrastructure is already stalling a bit (in the south east anyway) so many trains out if London cancelled today due to lack of drivers. What a crock.

Well it’s been (purposely) leaked today to soften us up for an announcement tomorrow with mr mayor announcing London about to explode or something I reckon- they won’t let speculation go on for that long markets hate uncertainty.

Hospitality will be heavily restricted without outside seating only.

There was a leak in The Times about it and their leaks have always been reliable.

I know what you mean, but look at the Netherlands - proof of vaccines have been required for entry since October, masks have been worn throughout, and now they’ve got the biggest surge they’ve ever had and have just shut down the country for a month…

Honestly the masks are not what makes the difference , particularly not with such a highly infectious variant. Might have been useful early on, but now it just feel like it's doing something, but it really isn't.
There is nothing we can do. Prevalence is going to be so high people will get it in Tesco's. The whole point of vaccination was to prevent excess deaths. We were never going to prevent all deaths any more than we prevent all flu deaths.

I think around the 29th. Xmas will pass and he’ll come on saying how they tried and it’s gone too far so we got that but we’re in for the new year. The Netherlands I think have gone into lockdown tonight too. I see more countries having restrictions in the coming days
