Me too. I think he is a totally decent, totally committed, highly astute, honest person who leads by example and does a fantastic job. The contrast between him and Boris could not be more stark.

Its worrying people are surprised or impressed the chief medical officer 'knows his stuff'. I agree he seems like a very intelligent, articulate and reasonable person, but do we have really low standards that we think someone in his position wouldn't be very knowledgeable.

Love a good Chris Whitty fan thread. Think I was on the first one, at the beginning of covid.

He is calm and measured and tries to explain things very clearly. I think he’s just lovely.

Yeah, he's my cup of tea. Interesting that he holds this position. Not the most fashionable personality, nicely old school, calm and decent. I like it.

He's been the calm and considered voice of reason throughout the pandemic. Absolute legend

Why did they not give this man a knighthood, he definitely deserves it, and instead bestow it on that tax dodging, prima donna Lewis Hamilton who does not even live in this country.

I remember when he explained that you can't take personal risk. You take risks on behalf of everyone. It was not patronising, it was not scaremongering, it was sincere, it was profound. Good man indeed. He can't do adverts though.

Absolutely love him. He explains statistics and risk very clearly. And has just kept going all the way through.

I suggested a "mumsnet" Christmas card/thankyou card on the other thread. It would be nice to show appreciation to him in some way.

Apparently, last Christmas he quietly spent the Christmas weekend doing rounds in the respiratory ward in a hospital, dealing with patients. By all accounts a lovely, lovely man.

I think we're looking at different people. There's definitely a twinkle of humour and genuine kindness behind the sober, serious exterior.
