... I just think he is amazing and so straight talking. He knows his stuff and seems down to earth. I love the way he handles the questions from the press and concentrates on the task in hand.

I think he is a real credit to the country. He has such a way of explaining concepts really clearly for non-science/medic folk to understand which is what we really need right now.

I was absolutely horrified when he was attacked/jumped upon by members of the public last year. Truly disgusting behaviour.

Equally disgusted to hear that many Tory MPs were berating him yesterday for saying he'd be cautious about mixing in the run up to xmas, moaning that as he's unelected he shouldn't be giving the public guidance. For any Tory MPs listening out there... I'd rather listen to my 6 month old baby's advice on how to navigate Covid than take any of your BS seriously! I'm very pleased we have someone like Whitty to do some straight talking to cut through the general waffle and BS we hear from the Gov.

Borisisafecklesstoad · 17/12/2021 11:47

He seems like a great man with an impressive history in infectious diseases. I trust him completely and think he deserves a flippin medal for sharing the stage with boris et al every day without cracking up

vera99 · 17/12/2021 11:58

Very funny comments from the backpedalling Tory Mp who has a pic of Johnson in his bio when he asked a question of Chris at the recent Select Committee. Check under the tweet Grin

"Asking for a friend" but got totally owned.

I never listen to Boris these days, just wait for Chris Whitty to say things intelligently, clearly and calmly.

He is a reassuring presence in a mad, mad world. This is what public service looks like, no self-aggrandising just what people need to consider as they go about their lives.

KisstheTeapot14 · 17/12/2021 12:12

@beenthereboughtthetshirt

everytime i see that Poundshop Churchill stood next to him i focus purely on Chris Whitty.
Grin I shall think of Boris thus from now on.
AndARiverBeneathYourFeet · 17/12/2021 12:31

People commenting on how he looks - he never planned for a career in TV! Thank god for his intelligence, common sense and ability to explain things clearly.

ancientgran · 17/12/2021 12:38

Even for a career on TV we should have a variety of people, not everyone can be a pinup.

Love the pic of Captain Mainwaring!

I shall now see Chris Witty as the erudite educated Sergeant Wilson (John Le Mesurier's character) in a sea of Captain Mainwaring and Corporal Pike MPs.

awaynboilyurheid · 17/12/2021 14:50

@anon666

I hope he knows how appreciated he is. I suspect he would do the right thing even if not.

He makes me proud to be British, and with Bojo as PM, that's not something thars easy to achieve these days.

Totally agree!, I really hope he knows that he is deeply appreciated, that’s the angriest I’ve heard him on that link , he’s absolutely right of course the NHS would have completely buckled under Covid without the lockdown.
goldenoldie1 · 17/12/2021 15:09

This is such a heartwarming thread.

EvilPea · 17/12/2021 15:19

Andante57 · 26/12/2021 13:02

@squashyhat

I assume he has been offered a knighthood and turned it down.
Chris Whitty is getting a knighthood in the New Year’s honours.
EvilPea · 26/12/2021 14:21

Hooray.
Frankly the man needs a sainthood for the shit he’s put up with

To be fair the MP in question is asking a very valid point a lot of the Country is asking too. Across the UK we have roughly 160,000 hospital beds. As of Christmas Eve 8256 were being used by those who have had a positive covid test within the last 28 days.

Even at the very peak of hospitalisations with Covid, The numbers were around 25% of hospital beds.

I would imagine most of us either know someone or are experiencing personally delayed NHS treatment.

To me that does suggest an awful lot of NHS resources went unused for long periods on the questionable opinions of Chris Whitty etc.

BringMeTea · 26/12/2021 16:15

You vipers nudged it over for him... Xmas Grin

Imagine if every post you make is incorrect..

Except Chris whitty is still stood at side of Boris, Chris whitty has presented out of date figures, hospitals have never been full.
