... I just think he is amazing and so straight talking. He knows his stuff and seems down to earth. I love the way he handles the questions from the press and concentrates on the task in hand.

We need sensible people like him running the country, not egomaniacs.

SalsaLove · 15/12/2021 19:43

@the80sweregreat

Not a sir, unlike that diva very rich man ,Lewis Hamilton :(
That’s a ridiculous statement. Lewis Hamilton is deserving of his award, which has nothing to do with the pandemic.
AnAverageMum · 15/12/2021 19:45

I like him very much actually, the way he basically gave BJ a little backhanded telling off like he was a school child regarding the alleged Christmas party at a live conference was just what I expected of him - & he didn’t disappoint. Grin

SclepIntoChristmas · 15/12/2021 19:45

I don't particularly like Lewis Hamilton but he is an amazing sportsman, was mature about his loss on Sunday, and is deserving of his Knighthood.

Wrinklyeyes · 15/12/2021 19:46

I am also a CW fan. I was gutted when he was attacked. I cannot begin to imagine how much his life has changed in the last 2 years. And to have to work with the current bunch of fuckwits that are the Cabinet.

Orchid876 · 15/12/2021 19:46

He is everything that those in our government are not. Intelligent, professional, committed to good and hard working. If only we had some people like him running the country. If only.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:46

Ok Sir Lewis, glad you found mumsnet !!

runwithme · 15/12/2021 19:49

Wow, the comments here about Lewis Hamilton! I know next to nothing about F1 but he was very gracious about the defeat over the weekend. He is the greatest at his sport in the UK and does actually contribute to charity. Why does singing the praises of one have to result in slagging off another?!

Totally agree. I'm not sure where Sir LH fits into this thread really. He didn't steal Chris Whitty's knighthood or prevent him from getting one did he?

Doesn't he live in Monaco? I thought you'd have to be resident in this country and at least pay taxes to qualify tbh.
lololololollll · 15/12/2021 19:52

I hope he sees this thread. Not that he will be bothered what people think of him, but I imagine he gets loads of shit

emuloc · 15/12/2021 19:54

I am quite sure that the Royal household know the rules about who can and cannot be knighted, more so than any one on here.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 19:54

It was me making a point that a rich man gets a knighthood and Chris Whitty doesn't
However , he has turned it down ( which I did not know )
I just felt it was wrong and I am not a fan of sir Lewis or formula one, it's true the whole 'gong ' thing is flawed anyway
It's just my opinion.

Lalliella · 15/12/2021 19:54

I love him! He’s so brainy and sensible and measured and wonderful!

Can someone show him this thread?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 15/12/2021 19:55

@ForsythiaInBloom

Adelerous · 15/12/2021 19:55

@squashyhat

I assume he has been offered a knighthood and turned it down.
He won’t be offered one until we are through the pandemic. Ditto JVT etc.

That’s Chris Whitby I mean, not Lewis Hamilton 😂
Lalliella · 15/12/2021 19:56

Whitty! Aaarrgghhh!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/12/2021 19:56

Has CW turned down a knighthood? Is that fact or speculation?

He hasn’t turned it down as they haven’t offered him one yet. It’s felt it’s not appropriate to do so at this time.
spongedog · 15/12/2021 19:58

@WoodenReindeer

I tend to "do" the press conference if he is on in order to hear him. I trust him. Dont trust the politicians.
Me too. He is clear, knowledgeable and seems reliable. I know that's not everyone's cup of tea but suits me just fine right now.
LivingLegend · 15/12/2021 19:58

Is thread some kind of spoof?

Gah!

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 15/12/2021 19:58

I'm a Chris Whitby fan too. His message today was so incredibly well done. It's interesting to note he's allowed to say what the government won't.

Delighted to hear he's like this "in the flesh".

I'm also very impressed by JVT.

NadjaofAntipaxos · 15/12/2021 20:00

I really appreciated Lewis Hamilton speaking out in support of gay and women's rights in Qatar and Saudi Arabia earlier this month. He wore the pride helmet during the races too which gets broadcast globally.

Formula 1 is such a macho sport, he was hardly speaking to his key fan base and future sponsors. Good on him.

Chris witty us an utter legend of course but let's not use him to pull down another person who is successful in their own way.
