... I just think he is amazing and so straight talking. He knows his stuff and seems down to earth. I love the way he handles the questions from the press and concentrates on the task in hand.

@NadjaofAntipaxos

I really appreciated Lewis Hamilton speaking out in support of gay and women's rights in Qatar and Saudi Arabia earlier this month. He wore the pride helmet during the races too which gets broadcast globally.

Formula 1 is such a macho sport, he was hardly speaking to his key fan base and future sponsors. Good on him.

Chris witty us an utter legend of course but let's not use him to pull down another person who is successful in their own way.

But in the past Lewis declined to support gay charities, did he not?
Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2021 20:02

@emuloc

I am quite sure that the Royal household know the rules about who can and cannot be knighted, more so than any one on here.
Yes, I doubt the palace are saying to themselves 'Oh no! Someone on MN says LH lives in Monaco, get that Knighthood back off him immediately and give it to Chris Whitty cos they've suggested that too. Grin
TheHolyPotato · 15/12/2021 20:04

He comes across really well to me.

Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2021 20:04

@LivingLegend

Is thread some kind of spoof?

Gah!

It started quite normally. The it all went wrong when it came to light that Lewis Hamilton nicked Chris Whitty's Knighthood from under his nose. Shock
emuloc · 15/12/2021 20:04

@Sparklingbrook Smile

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 15/12/2021 20:05

@AnAverageMum

I like him very much actually, the way he basically gave BJ a little backhanded telling off like he was a school child regarding the alleged Christmas party at a live conference was just what I expected of him - & he didn’t disappoint. Grin
@AnAverageMum Can you tell me what he said? I didn't catch it all.
Stuckforlong · 15/12/2021 20:07

@SclepIntoChristmas

I don't particularly like Lewis Hamilton but he is an amazing sportsman, was mature about his loss on Sunday, and is deserving of his Knighthood.
I agree , I'm not a big fan either , although I do agree he was hard done by last weekend , watched with family who were racing fans . Deserves the knighthood as would Chris Whitty who I have the most respect for unlike our PM
roses2 · 15/12/2021 20:07

CW seems like such a catch, can't believe he's not married!

TheHolyPotato · 15/12/2021 20:08

@Wrinklyeyes

I am also a CW fan. I was gutted when he was attacked. I cannot begin to imagine how much his life has changed in the last 2 years. And to have to work with the current bunch of fuckwits that are the Cabinet.
I agree it was horrible to see someone having a go at such a gentleman. And yes he has the patience of a saint as a pp mentioned.
the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 20:09

I was just making the point that people such as Sir Lewis Hamilton gets a knighthood and people like Chris Whitty do not, but , apparently he doesn't want it , so that's me told !
I'm not a fan of Sir Lewis, but then many other sportsman and women have titles and I think it's wrong , but there you go nobody cares what I think I'm sure !!

BringMeTea · 15/12/2021 20:11

I adore Chris Whitty. Brainy. Dignified. Man of action. Also like JVT so thanks to the poster who linked to the RI lectures. The thread has so much. Also enjoyed the Sir Lewis non sequitur and Bob 'the mouthy twat' Geldof. Xmas Grin

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/12/2021 20:13

he speaks very good sense.

Outdoorbeanbags · 15/12/2021 20:13

@Mumsnut

I like to think Her Maj is going to bypass a knighthood altogether and go straight for 'Lord Chris'.

Maybe we could get up a petition ...

This,

Could he sit in the lords and be besties with lord winston. (I love him too)

Againstmachine · 15/12/2021 20:15

Ah good old liar Chris whitty and his mate Patrick Vallance, who gives false figures on Covid. Lie to me once, I don't trust a word you say.

LuluBlakey1 · 15/12/2021 20:16

Can we stick to Chris Witty? Someone mentioned his dad and what happened to him. He also had an inspirational mum who was a teacher and brought up 4 boys alone. A friend of DH's writes for one of the broadsheets and has worked up an in-depth profile of him (which hasn't been published yet but he sent us a long-version copy with all his research to read knowing I am a fan). He comes from a family of Drs (male and female) going back to Victorian England. All achievers, focussed on the most vulnerable in the world, often in Africa and on women's health and children. Army people decorated for bravery. People who were written about with sheer admiration by colleagues and with love by their families and friends.
It was fascinating to read- both sides of the family exhibit real dedication to improving the lives of others and to putting back into society.
He is clearly in the same mould. His friends and colleagues were fiercely loyal, protective of him and spoke with utmost respect and admiration for him- his skills, dedication, humanity and kindness. He apparently has a lovely dry, gentle sense of humour.

ancientgran · 15/12/2021 20:16

@Sparklingbrook

Apparently Sir Bob Geldof said CW looked like 'something from the fifties'. Which is odd because Sir Bob is something from the 50s himself...
Nothing wrong with us people from the 50s. Sir Bob needs to get a grip.

@DoubleHelix79

I've worked with him a few times. He is incredibly smart, committed and only speaks when he genuinely has something to say. I wish there were many more people like him.
It's great to hear that he's as lovely as he comes across. I always tune in to hear him speak as he makes so much sense. Have to admit I fast forward Boris.
Guttedbuyer · 15/12/2021 20:18

A podcast narrated by Chris Whitty would be lovely to fall asleep to

godmum56 · 15/12/2021 20:20

I'd like to add Jenny Harries to the roll of honour

I only watch press conferences when he is on.. His calm professionalism makes me despair even more for the idiot PM stood beside him!

CrispsnDips · 15/12/2021 20:22

Wonderful Whitty said he would sacrifice his Xmas Day with his family to go and support his fellow health professionals as he knows the staffing across health and social care will be depleted this year …how amazing 🥰

I wonder if he ever laughs heartily and maniacally? I very much doubt it and that's what I want in my CSO - thoughtful measured seriousness. When this is all over he should be made a Knight of The Garter and a Peer of the Realm.
