Independent sage: circuit breaker lockdown needed now

XmasGoose · 15/12/2021 18:01

I see Independent Sage have said that an immediate circuit breaker lockdown is needed to protect the NHS.

This would involve a total ban on household mixing, all bars, restaurants and indoor venues closing and schools shutting early for Christmas.

Is this needed now to protect the NHS and save lives? Personally I wouldn’t comply with another lockdown.

Independent sage are always calling for lockdowns, they don't care what havoc it would cause.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/12/2021 18:02

Independent Sage can get fucked.

XenoBitch · 15/12/2021 18:03

Where can I send them a ton of Biscuit, because I will not be told who I can and can not see.

AD80 · 15/12/2021 18:04

Schools shutting early for Christmas 🤷‍♀️ All the schools where I live finish on Friday anyway!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/12/2021 18:04

It's laughable that they actually think people would comply with that.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 15/12/2021 18:05

Nope.

23rd for DS! His year group are having a Christmas party that day. He's so excited, I just hope it goes ahead.

My thoughts precisely. They exist to keep themselves in the limelight and serve no purpose whatsoever as far as I can tell other than to whip up excess fear.
IncessantNameChanger · 15/12/2021 18:06

Its end of term here on Friday lunch time so a bit late I would say.

It's not that i would wilfully ignore the rules and let's be honest theres some rules that are impossible to ignore. But, meh. I must admit that the Matt Hancock thing makes it all feel like a massive piss take. If my mate wanted to met up in her garden for her mental health, I would think twice for example. I complied 100% back before I knew this would go for years.

Itisasecret · 15/12/2021 18:06

Ummm no

megletthesecond · 15/12/2021 18:06

It'll be a tad late but it might mean Xmas isn't too bad.

JanglyBeads · 15/12/2021 18:07

They’re not asking whether people would comply, that’s not their job, they’re saying that’s what’s needed.

Maybe if everyone had been able to hear Chris Whitty’s warning to politicians yesterday that hospitals may have to stop admitting people by 15 January, people would comply?

😂 yep
Mickarooni · 15/12/2021 18:09

Not all schools finish this week, many are going right up until next week.

Independent Sage are massive drama llamas.

BarmyBrunhilde · 15/12/2021 18:11

I'm sorry but no. If they're going to shut down public businesses, that must come with furlough and plenty of economic support. Household mixing and schools should be the last things to be banned - human connection, and children's education and wellbeing are fundamental rights, not a nice-to-have.

Very much this.
XmasGoose · 15/12/2021 18:12

Personally I’d be very reluctant to support another lockdown because of the harms they cause to society and the economy.

Now that most people are triple jabbed, I don’t see how we can continue this cycle of lockdowns indefinitely as there is no end point.

Sensible precautions like opening windows, masks in some settings and hand washing, yes, but other than that I think we just need to get on with it.

I don’t disagree but so’s access to basic functioning healthcare provision.

Basically.

Nobody would comply so they can advise whatever crap they like.

Booklover3 · 15/12/2021 18:15

No

herecomesthsun · 15/12/2021 18:15

If we do lock down, experience suggests it will be at the last minute and too late to stop the worst of the damage...

XenoBitch · 15/12/2021 18:16

I heard this on the radio earlier and it stuck with me...

"I would rather die living, than live dying"

I take your point completely, but these rights need to be balanced, and it seems that Independent Sage struggle with that - have they done a thorough impact assessment in coming to this conclusion?
GiveMeNovocain · 15/12/2021 18:18

They want it? They can pay for it

SpringRainbow · 15/12/2021 18:21

Even if this does happen, people will not fully comply.

If businesses are shut them there isn’t much that can be done about that (however, I hate to think how many will never open again).

However, this will drive more people to mix again in private homes.

You cannot realistically expect people to stay away from their loved ones forever.

I think they know this which is probably one of the reasons they haven’t dared to restrict social contact. Last years Christmas parties make this even harder for them to even dare suggest.
