"As pressure from virus rises, PM will give national address at 8pm tonight, updating the booster programme - sounds like this will NOT include new restrictions"

@Claudethecat

Oh if only it was a resignation statement!

If the whole UK is going to level 4, does that mean social distancing again? BBC are saying no new restrictions though, so hopefully not.

Level 4 alert should mean technically 'social distancing begins' (this chart is worded for exiting restrictions and we are currently going the opposite way) but its not the tier system. Level 5 means 'extreme social distancing' so effectively lock down. So we are probably going into informal social distancing without restrictions and this is our 'last warning' to do as we are told and 'take responsibility before they hit the 'legally enforcable' button.

If it was lockdown it would be announced with immediate effect as the results f a lockdown would be pretty catastrophic. It would cause mayhem.

It's likely to be encouraging none boostered to get boostered and the role out and plans.

@Motorina

If it's an 'address the nation' it will be pre-recorded.

There will be crossed Union Flags.

He'll be sat at a desk.

There will be somber words and probably latin. Maybe greek. Almost certainly a cry to the braveries of our past. "When Harold had the arrow in his eye, did he despair? No, he did not despair. Did he give up? No. No, he did not..."

He will be Churchillian. Badly.

He probably will have brushed his hair, which is at least a small mercy.

I have wine in the fridge. I think I might open it.

I'm thinking "espresso martini"
fakereview · 12/12/2021 17:44

@Borisjohnsonshairbrush

They have said no new restrictions!!!
Yes the BBC said it was to do with boosters. Probably "get your boosters and you can have Christmas" which is all very well but lots of us haven't been able to get ours yet. Mine is booked for 21st, DH for 18th and DH is over 50! I think we must be very behind in our area.
MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2021 17:45

Someone on another thread said it was five minutes?

If so it’ll just be new level be scared

Get booster

LolaLouLou · 12/12/2021 17:45

I wish it was to resign. But, alas and alak, I suspect he will waffle on taking personal credit for vaccinations as if he jabbed everyone personally.

Kitkat151 · 12/12/2021 17:45

This will be the precursor to more restrictions which will come in at the end of next week when the kids have finished school for the holidays....track and trace in hospitality will be back....as will masks absolutely everywhere....although tbf I actually liked table service in the pub

CactusFlowers · 12/12/2021 17:45

@Borisjohnsonshairbrush

They have said no new restrictions!!!
They also said no parties…
thedarkling · 12/12/2021 17:45

I'm trying to get my fucking booster, I'm over 40 and soonest I can get it done is a week today, brought forward from 31st. So all this pressure to get it done is starting to wind me up a bit.

Quartz2208 · 12/12/2021 17:45

This I think is his last roll of the dice to stay on power
It’s 8pm Sunday so he doesn’t have to face journalists
He knows plan B isn’t through yet and is going to have a sizeable party revolt against it and needs Labour to see it through

Any further restrictions will just cause more party issues and therefore he needs boosters to be forefront and us to do it ourselves

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 17:46

They will have to extract him kicking and screaming clutching the spare rolls of 800 pounds a roll wallpaper too!
While trying to take it off the walls too I bet !

Cici22 · 12/12/2021 17:46

@the80sweregreat

Not a Christmas lockdown ? Nobody will follow it anyway.
Well if everything is shut we're gonna have to aren't we!!!
Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 17:46

@Whinge

I don't see why 8pm is cause for alarm.

Because 8pm usually seems to be when they announce the really bad news. 6pm is usually the timeslot for updates, 8pm is serious announcements.

Is it? Which really bad news was announced at 8pm? What difference does the two hours make? He done ones at all different times IIRC, I've seen one at 5pm. The announcement is whatever it is regardless of the time.

Whereabouts are you? Any walk ins

A chocolate company has missed an advertising opportunity here. Tin of quality streets on the desk and some tinsel sticking out the drawer, in a shit effort to hide the party gear in the rush to get the broadcast out quickly.
thedarkling · 12/12/2021 17:47

@MarshaBradyo Kent, and not that I can find

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 17:47

Yep, the only way to get people to do anything is to shut it all down ..
Won't stop people driving up to see loved ones though !

SnoopDogisamenace · 12/12/2021 17:47

@the80sweregreat

He might be resigning?? .,just a thought
We live in hope!
Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/12/2021 17:48

I think a lockdown would be announced weekday when business would be able to act fast and probably in the new year when hospitality it genuinely quieter.

Tonight is likely to be a warning for the next 14days.

Claudethecat · 12/12/2021 17:48

Maybe he is announcing that he's going to spend more time with his new baby...and Liz Truss will be taking over.

theemperorhasnoclothes · 12/12/2021 17:48

It'll be bloody annoying if it's about boosters. They need to get more vaccine out, multiple threads on here about people being turned away, most previous walk-in centres around here have now stopped being walk-ins for anyone who's not clinically vulnerable. It's really hard to get your booster even if highly motivated.

Saying 'get your boosters, it's really serious' and making the queues even longer isn't going to magic up more vaccine or more vaccinators. The ball is in their court not ours.

Verbena17 · 12/12/2021 17:48

UK BS level of alert gone from 3 to 4 Wink

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2021 17:48
@MarshaBradyo Kent, and not that I can find
I don’t know how feasible this is (sorry no idea on distance) but Lewisham Hospital has Pfizer and no queues

thedarkling · 12/12/2021 17:50

@MarshaBradyo thank you, too far for me really (would prob catch on the train there and back!) but I have friends round there so will let them know.

SickAndTiredAgain · 12/12/2021 17:50

Yes the BBC said it was to do with boosters

What a waste of time.
