"As pressure from virus rises, PM will give national address at 8pm tonight, updating the booster programme - sounds like this will NOT include new restrictions"

He’s trying to claw back some prime ministerial capital. He’ll apologise for no 10 parties, though there still won’t have been a party. And then booster and be careful. It’s to calm the Tory MPs. Then lockdown after Christmas.

DaisyNGO · 12/12/2021 17:36

@littlepeas

8pm gives me the heebie jeebies.
Yep.
RobertaFirmino · 12/12/2021 17:36

Sadly, I don't think he'll resign. An apology would be nice but again, I doubt it. I think we're just in for a Very Stern Talking To (in other words, do as I say, not as I do).

speakingofart · 12/12/2021 17:36

Ah here comes the lockdown then!

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 12/12/2021 17:36

@littlepeas

8pm gives me the heebie jeebies.
That was my initial thought. I thought lockdown, however BBC have always been pretty precise about expectations on what he will say. So I do believe it will be 'level 4, please be safe, lets be sensible so we can have a safe Christmas blah blah' I won't be watching. I am sure news alert will tell me the rubbish he will spout
MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2021 17:37

He can’t do lockdown tonight

He still is on plan B vote

Just general annoyance here

Claudethecat · 12/12/2021 17:37

@speakingofart

Ah here comes the lockdown then!
Not a chance. I hope.
MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2021 17:38

@PicsInRed

Ugh, Sky are calling it "address the nation", rather than press conference.

8pm, Sunday, address the nation.

Fear and Loathing.

I loathe address the nation with a passion

No, don’t.

Chloemol · 12/12/2021 17:38

Hmm well Level 4 talked about reduced social distancing, well there is none in place at the moment, so how does that work!

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/12/2021 17:38

Come on all let's be positive (not covid positive obvs)

It will likely be a booster black mail or covid passport.

I cannot imagine a lockdown. They don't have the audacity at this stage.

I think someone is going to be leaking more scandle too. Watch this space.

Whinge · 12/12/2021 17:38

@speakingofart

Ah here comes the lockdown then!
It won't be a lockdown. They've said no new restrictions are expected.
AlecTrevelyan006 · 12/12/2021 17:38

I think he might tee up some new restrictions so that it’s not a surprise when they’re announced at the end of the week

Claudethecat · 12/12/2021 17:39

If he is not announcing new restrictions why is he bothering to do this? Is it to try and move us on from partygate?

Motorina · 12/12/2021 17:40

If it's an 'address the nation' it will be pre-recorded.

There will be crossed Union Flags.

He'll be sat at a desk.

There will be somber words and probably latin. Maybe greek. Almost certainly a cry to the braveries of our past. "When Harold had the arrow in his eye, did he despair? No, he did not despair. Did he give up? No. No, he did not..."

He will be Churchillian. Badly.

He probably will have brushed his hair, which is at least a small mercy.

I have wine in the fridge. I think I might open it.

ApricotStew · 12/12/2021 17:40

Maybe more restrictions, particularly around travel and large gatherings. I think given the new variant they're needed

I totally agree. I just don't understand why some people can't see this.
Yes, it's really shit, more for some than others.

But ignoring it really isn't any sort of useful plan.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 17:41

More waffle about boosters.
I never watch his waffle live, and just check the news after. I don't see why 8pm is cause for alarm.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 12/12/2021 17:41

They have said no new restrictions!!!

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 12/12/2021 17:41

@Claudethecat

If he is not announcing new restrictions why is he bothering to do this? Is it to try and move us on from partygate?
I have just thought, new baby. Maybe he wants to do a quick message which does not invite questions, slides etc.
fakereview · 12/12/2021 17:42

@RobertaFirmino

Sadly, I don't think he'll resign. An apology would be nice but again, I doubt it. I think we're just in for a Very Stern Talking To (in other words, do as I say, not as I do).
Yes I don't think he'll resign either.

Hopefully this post won't age well Grin

tailspin21 · 12/12/2021 17:42

Anyone fancy a drinking game? I mean nobody can seriously expect this to be taken seriously after last year surely?!
So what do we reckon, a shot for each saying,
Hands, face, space
Protect the NHS
Get vaccinated
Must all work together (double shot if he manages this with a straight face)
If we act now
Save Christmas

Any I've missed?

Motorina · 12/12/2021 17:42

You reckon he's going to show us his baby photos???

gherdl · 12/12/2021 17:43

If it is an address the nation there conveniently won't be any pesky press there and it will be a video

LizzieSiddal · 12/12/2021 17:43

He would never resign, he’s not the type. They’ll have to drag him out, kicking and screaming whilst holding onto the furniture.

DarknessAndLight · 12/12/2021 17:43

I looked at the Telegraph on line and they don’t mention restrictions.
They mention that we’re at level 4 which means pressure on healthcare but this is due to mainly non covid.
That and boosters.

Whinge · 12/12/2021 17:43

I don't see why 8pm is cause for alarm.

Because 8pm usually seems to be when they announce the really bad news. 6pm is usually the timeslot for updates, 8pm is serious announcements.
