"As pressure from virus rises, PM will give national address at 8pm tonight, updating the booster programme - sounds like this will NOT include new restrictions"

He could throw in restricting numbers in shops again. Make finishing your Christmas shopping interesting?

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 17:51

I heard Liz Truss being interviewed today by Nick Robinson and I was actually impressed !
I loath all tories as a default button , but she won me over ( even if she is poacher turned game keeper politically )
Not sure if she is leader material , but she is an improvement on Boris Johnson !
I know i will be flamed !

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 17:53

Just Get a booster then ?!
We know this surely and the unvaccinated won't bother with the first jabs , let alone a booster

MamDancer · 12/12/2021 17:53

I don’t know how feasible this is (sorry no idea on distance) but Lewisham Hospital has Pfizer and no queues

No idea why, but this made me think of under-the-counter black marketeering Xmas Grin

@the80sweregreat

They will have to extract him kicking and screaming clutching the spare rolls of 800 pounds a roll wallpaper too! While trying to take it off the walls too I bet !
That was my thought too! 🤣🤣

So I do believe it will be 'level 4, please be safe, lets be sensible so we can have a safe Christmas blah blah'

Basically, he's going to try to set the public against each other so the blame for any cancelling of Christmas is laid at the feet of the general public for having not been good / sensible.

otterlybonkers · 12/12/2021 17:55

I spent 3 hours on Ocado last night trying to get through the checkout without every single set of bog rolls going out of stock for my delivery slot - of which there were few.. Finally snagged a 24 quilt pack that they will likely have to substitute before it arrives.

It's already happening! Even worse luck if I try to use other supermarkets.

None available until January here (I moved mine to this week before the booking went crazy).
PizzaCrust · 12/12/2021 17:57

This is preparation for a lockdown. It’ll be a small threat of “if figures don’t improve by x date then we may be forced to take additional measures”. Also known as “I’m just preparing you all subconsciously for me ruining the second Christmas in a row. You’re welcome!”

Let’s not be naive to this. See it for what it very clearly is.

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 17:57

If lay the blame on the government if people won't comply with anything to be honest !!
They just said it's an update on the booster programme, so why the 8pm slot of doom (after strictly ?)
.. waste of time !
And yes, it's like the war when people got their meat and sugar off the ration books , get your boosters here !

IReallyLikeCrows · 12/12/2021 17:58

My guess is he's doing more of these in an attempt to make people forget about the parties that didn't happen but they did and the undeniable fact that he is a lying, corrupt c*nt.

Fingers crossed!

Internetio · 12/12/2021 17:58

It’s being broadcast on itv as ‘PM Statement’ rather than ‘coronavirus news conference’ which seems odd and ominously dramatic. A resignation would probably be the noble statement to make… after all anything else is going to go down like a lead balloon with the public after the last week of revelations!

Macaroni46 · 12/12/2021 17:58

Ooh maybe term will end early? Schools around here are not due to finish until 21st or even 22nd!

PizzaCrust · 12/12/2021 17:59

@Motorina

Please don’t forget the cheese with your wine. It’s very important.

I’m concerned he’s going to start talking about vaccinating children. Makes me a bit uneasy

tootyfruitypickle · 12/12/2021 18:00

Oh he's going to do a big apology in some posh bloke way isn't he

But surely there needs to be a step between "wear a mask in the cinema" and "don't leave your house unless for exercise". I doubt we'll see a lockdown, this side of Christmas anyway.

I heard the same interview! You should be flamed Grin She was appalling and said literally nothing interesting and kept walking into Margaret Thatcher parables. She doesn't realise why that's stupid.

Anyway, to the poster ages ago who said he wouldn't resign and would need to be dragged out kicking and screaming - I'm not sure Boris would want to govern from a position of weakness. If his own backbenchers and the 22 Committee keep briefing against him, and he knows there is worst to be released - he might well jump before he is pushed and get out before Christmas.

And I think there's a strong argument to say his resignation would probably create greater good will for public policies that involve social distancing etc. He may fall on the sword of damocles, and create better faith for public trust going forward with restrictions.

Actually, there may be something in this.
MaxNormal · 12/12/2021 18:02

@the80sweregreat what did Truss say? I've been warming to her too recently.

@PizzaCrust you're probably right, as much as I'd rather you weren't.

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 18:02

It is distraction tactics ! :(
He won't say anything of any note I suppose
But if all we don't behave ..

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 12/12/2021 18:03

@tailspin21

Anyone fancy a drinking game? I mean nobody can seriously expect this to be taken seriously after last year surely?! So what do we reckon, a shot for each saying, Hands, face, space Protect the NHS Get vaccinated Must all work together (double shot if he manages this with a straight face) If we act now Save Christmas

Any I've missed?

I am in!!!
