@serengtisprinter

Well hopefully the threads after threads about the unvaccinated clogging up beds will stop now.
RTFT.

In the same way that 99% of people involved in car accidents were wearing seatbelts?

EdgeOfTheSky · 06/12/2021 22:27

Well done OP: the thread title has set another snowball of misinformation gathering weight….

bumbleymummy · 06/12/2021 22:29

@EdgeOfTheSky maybe read my post - I didn’t say vaccines ‘make no difference’ - I said we should stop saying that the unvaccinated are overwhelming hospitals.

So how many operations are the vaccinated people in hospital delaying if they make up 65% of admissions @Scautish? Also, how do you feel about overweight and obese people? Are they selfish? Over 80% of people in icu are overweight/obese. Curious to hear your thoughts.

What about smokers and alcoholics ? Funny how people are not being forced to stop smoking and drinking.

scottishtablet23 · 06/12/2021 22:33

@Onlinedilema

The vast majority of those on ventilators in my local hospital are unvaccinated. In fact it's almost 100% unvaccinated.
@Onlinedilema - do you look after these patients? There are so many statements like yours on MN nowadays, it makes one wonder how these MN healthcare workers know the vaccine status of a whole ward unless they work with those patients directly?

People are stopped from drinking and driving, and from smoking indoors.

I love a bit of classic whataboutery.
Madhairday · 06/12/2021 22:34

Yes but 60/70 % of those in ICU are unvaccinated. They are the ones preventing the surgeries. And for the most sick covid patients the statistic is over 90% unvaccinated.

And like everyone else says, base rate fallacy.

Really tired of all the misinformation and minimising.

bumbleymummy · 06/12/2021 22:35

@SLH2003 Nope. Just asking the uncomfortable questions that you don’t want to answer. Fair enough.

WhenSheWasBad · 06/12/2021 22:36

That’s not even remotely the same thing.

The vast majority of people can become vaccinated in an afternoon. Losing substantial amounts of weight is considerably harder. losing half a stone is bloody hard work

bumbleymummy · 06/12/2021 22:36

@Madhairday are you using the figures from the recent news reports that were based on July figures or do you have another source?

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 06/12/2021 22:36

Insofar as Team Vaccine are also Team Science, it is incumbent upon us to use data legitimately. Specifically we really shouldn't use irrelevant and misleading data about hospitalisations in January/February 2021 to produce an eye catching headline figure allegedly showing that almost everyone hospitalised is unvaccinated. So I'm disappointed in the Economist and glad FullFact have corrected them.

Yes it would be lovely if vaccines were 100% foolproof and all the data gave a very simple demonstration of how well they work. But they're not, they're "only" 90-something% effective against severe disease so we have to do a bit more statistical work on the denominators and the age bands to demonstrate the efficacy.

Ironically in countries where they didn't do such a rigorous job of prioritising the most vulnerable as the UK their vaccinations look at first glance like they're much more successful - but that's actually because they left more octogenarians unprotected.

It's the ones in icu who are blocking operations. And that's predominant unvaccinated people.

The more recent July-nov figures raise the percentage of unvaccinated to 90%.

dissociated · 06/12/2021 22:40

80% of over 12s have now had two doses so I don’t see your point.

You're just posting bullshit whataboutery. It's meaningless.

HesterShaw1 · 06/12/2021 22:43

@DSGR

Because most people are vaccinated and because even vaccines aren’t going to save 85-year-olds with bad Covid. They will die of something or other. Vaccine immunity wanes over time for coronaviruses.. get a booster. Simple. Lots of decent explanation in that article. And it doesn’t say how many actually go on to die.. I am putting money on it mostly being the very elderly or infirm.
I don't understand why so many people find this so impost to comprehend.
HesterShaw1 · 06/12/2021 22:43

Impossible! Not impost

Wizzbangfizz · 06/12/2021 22:43

Great scaremongering OP

EllaBob · 06/12/2021 22:46

65% of stupid people don’t understand data.

NotKnowingArseFromElbow · 06/12/2021 22:46

@goodgollygosh23

On a very basic level and without knowing facts and stats...isn't this because more of the population are now vaccinated than not?
Yup
