We really are going to end up with a two tier society. It's actually quite worrying.

I am NOT anti vaxx, just concerned at how we are sleep walking into giving away our hard won freedoms.

I just saw this, along with them potentially introducing a vaccine mandate in February.

I think it’s absolutely awful.

And I’m not anti-vax either, I’ve had mine and will have the booster when invited. I think everyone should have it. I don’t think anyone should be forced to.

RoseAndRose · 02/12/2021 14:28

What is happening for those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons?

orinocosfavoritecake · 02/12/2021 14:30

Sounds eminently sensible.

girlmom21 · 02/12/2021 14:30

I'm the same - I'm pro-vaccines but think everyone should have the right to choose

violetskiss · 02/12/2021 14:33

I think a lot of people (me included) aren’t sleepwalking into anything - we wholeheartedly agree with decisions like this.

and that would be straight forward if it just affected a single person. That's the problem. People have the right to not want to be infected by those who choose not to take up the offer of the vaccine.

This is not my opinion but that is the issue.

I don't know🤔 The article I read just said needed to be vaccinated, or recently recovered from covid. The unvaccinated have already been banned from public transport.

My DS lives in Berlin

It's been like this a while now. Very very strict. Everyone just gets on with it he says. Masks everywhere
Guards in some shop entrances and visible police presence

thewhatsit · 02/12/2021 14:37

I’m not against a gentle nudge in the right direction (which is how I view the UK’s rules) but this is too far. I think it really crosses a line. I’d be aghast if it happens here.

Flyonawalk · 02/12/2021 14:38

I hope people can fight this.

What a disaster this would be. Segregation of society on medical grounds. What next - limitations on those with HIV or hepatitis?

Surely bodily autonomy is worth protesting for.

LittleMysSister · 02/12/2021 14:38

I agree - it should be a choice. It's becoming quite sinister now, people aren't forced into other vaccines in this manner.

Essexmum321 · 02/12/2021 14:38

But it’s fine for them to be infected by those that have had the vaccine or children, what difference does it make? The vaccine will protect the vaccinated against serious disease as it was designed to do.

LittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 02/12/2021 14:39

Ds has an app on his phone which shows he's vaccinated, he shows that before entering stores etc

Me too. I believe measles vaccines being mandated has already been under discussion for some time in other European countries, too?

If necessary vaccines are not being taken up sufficiently, mandates are what we have. It doesn't mean we give up on public health campaigns and improving medical literacy! We can do that alongside a mandate.

Doodledeedum · 02/12/2021 14:40

Exactly this.

And for those who agree, what happens when they want you to do something you don't agree with?

This will snowball.

ChooChooSan · 02/12/2021 14:42

It's not scientifically justified.
The vaccinated can pass this on too.🤷

Indeed.

And the German health service is well funded. It isn't like the NHS, on its knees every winter. There is no excuse for this sort of draconian requirement at all.

Campfirewood · 02/12/2021 14:44

I can’t say I’m bothered, but appreciate some people are really worried about their freedoms.
I’m happy with vaccines, I’m happy to try and prevent further needless deaths of vulnerable people.
As for mandating things, let’s see what the data shows after.

Beenaboutabit · 02/12/2021 14:44

People working in retail are being forced to engage with unvaccinated adults.

Just as with smoking, where freedom to smoke so is restricted to outside the workplace, freedom to be an unvaccinated adult could come with restrictions.

There are obvious differences between individuals who smoke and those who remain unvaccinated when those individuals are considered. However, where there is overlap is the focus on workplace environmental safety and the risk posed to those working with the general public.

There is always a tension between individual freedom and the extent to which that freedom impinges on the freedom of others.

FWIW, I’d come down on the side of keeping the workplace safer.

Until you are made to take medicine or have medical procedures you don't want.

And then what?

ChooChooSan · 02/12/2021 14:44

When I can can go into hospital safe in the knowledge I wont catch a hospital acquired infection I might be willing to revisit my opinion on this sort of thing.

thenightsky · 02/12/2021 14:45

Like leper colonies I guess.

fakereview · 02/12/2021 14:45

Just because you are not vaccinated does not mean you have covid.

User63896578 · 02/12/2021 14:46

These countries are different though and do things in a different way, like China and some of the other eastern countries have their way of doing things, I probably wouldn't visit them though.

violetskiss · 02/12/2021 14:46

“ And for those who agree, what happens when they want you to do something you don't agree with?”

Well, I already have to do lots of things I don’t agree with because the government mandates them. Surely nobody is living in a perfect world where every law and regulation is exactly to their liking and personal preference? This is such a silly take.
