Is covid ripping through your school?

Both schools my DC attend and the school
I work at now have numerous covid cases for the first time!!! Is it just inevitable
that under the current guidelines, all these kids are going to get covid? The staff feel like ticking times bombs despite being vaccinated.
Like many establishments, we have newly
of staff, vulnerable staff, staff with vulnerable family members, very anxious older staff.... It's nerve wracking waiting for it to hit!

no idea, they have stopped saying.

I know of the people the dd's know have it, but thats only a small amount of the school.

Not that I’m aware of.
No cases at all in the school I work in.
None that my children have been aware of in either or their schools.

Yes, both my children's secondaries.
But it ripped through them before. My one son had 7 self isolations and Covid last winter. Think he has Covid again.
My other son had 4 self isolations and is awaiting PCR result.
They are year 11 so withdrawing them is not an option.

I feel like I'm in a different universe to those who've known no cases in school or life.
Here in the West Mids our schools have been swimming with cases certainly since they went back in Sept 2020. It never stopped.

I work with 20 schools too and the levels of cases remain shocking.

Yup. Over 100 children off with confirmed cases. Somehow only 1 member of staff though!

No idea they don't tell us. There has been nothing on the FB group which is normally how I would find out. Took dd for a PCR test today as she has a fever and a cough. She had covid last Dec so fingers crossed it's just this throat bug thing that is going around.

Yep. Absolutely roaring cases through the school. School put a message up on fb this weekend asking for all parents in a certain year group to get their dc a pcr test ASAP, as 7 positive cases have now been recorded in that class.

We've only got about 20 off with a positive at the moment so not too bad compared to lots I've heard of.

Don’t think so… but we’d never know as the school don’t need to tell us for isolation etc… but I don’t think it is… I’m sure word would fly round if it was

8 cases in my DD’s class (Yr 6). She now wears a mask all day and her class has to be isolated from the rest of the school and when in wraparound she has to go into a separate room as well.

The school I work at only has 4 confirmed
cases so far by these kids have only tested
positive since Friday. It's going to spread very quickly i'm sure through our small
school of 200 kids.

I’m also a teacher and we currently have 50 children off.

No. In my children's primary school they have had 1 confirmed case relating to a child and maybe 3 members of staff who have had covid. That is since the pandemic began. Small market town in the south west.

Yes. We seem to have escaped it at my kids school until now altho dh and I had it last Oct. right now less than half of my sons class are in. The actual number of confirmed cases I don’t know as they won’t say. But I know it’s ripped through the juniors and my daughter in the infants only had half the class in so I’m guessing it’s there too. I’m not worried for myself or my kids but for older relatives we could inadvertently pass it on to

Not sure how many cases at my DDs school as they're not reporting daily but they are back to wearing masks.

I feel your pain though as we're about to start a uni term which will be fully f2f teaching. While it's great that students can get back to normal, I'm really quite concerned for us as staff Sad

Yes. And yes it is inevitable under current guidelines. It is presumably a deliberate policy, though the government(s) is (are) not admitting that. If they did, it could be properly debated.

There were a few cases in my ds secondary school the first few weeks but nothing since, interestingly cases are actually coming down again, not what I was expecting.
