Is covid ripping through your school?

Both schools my DC attend and the school
I work at now have numerous covid cases for the first time!!! Is it just inevitable
that under the current guidelines, all these kids are going to get covid? The staff feel like ticking times bombs despite being vaccinated.
Like many establishments, we have newly
of staff, vulnerable staff, staff with vulnerable family members, very anxious older staff.... It's nerve wracking waiting for it to hit!

North West London here and so far my Son's secondary and Daughter's sixth form have not had more than a handful this term. My school has had 3 staff and 1 child since September. I do feel as though it's a waiting game now and in another two weeks we could have large outbreaks.

HSHorror · 19/09/2021 20:36

Weve had 3 so far since sept.
Previously maybe 8 last year all year

scoopydoopy · 19/09/2021 20:36

None in the school I work in so far

User5827372728 · 19/09/2021 20:37

The school I teach in doesn’t even tell us… literally no idea, the head barely mentions covid

TheGrumpyGoat · 19/09/2021 20:38

We had 7 cases in the first week (we’ve been back 4 weeks now), all linked to a particular social event attended by a lot of the year 6’s on the Saturday night before our term started. None since.

HSHorror · 19/09/2021 20:39

Im pretty sure Gov cases are incorrect

TammyTwoSwanson · 19/09/2021 20:39

Yes. My son's secondary school Facebook has about ten parents a day saying their children have just tested positive. It's also rippling through my youngest's school.

TheGrumpyGoat · 19/09/2021 20:41

@HSHorror

Im pretty sure Gov cases are incorrect
Why? The ONS survey last week showed a decrease in cases too.
Noodledoodledoo · 19/09/2021 20:42

Going steadily through my sons primary class, about 5 cases so far, spreading to siblings classes. Not sure where patient zero is but one dad is pretty poorly and child in both classes.

My secondary, we have a handful that I know of but we are not being informed.

SingingSands · 19/09/2021 20:43

Yes, and now my son has passed it to me and I'm so, so horribly ill with it. School are trying to play it down but it's the only secondary in our town, everyone knows that there are loads of kids off with it.

IfNot · 19/09/2021 20:43

I wouldn’t say it’s ripping thru the school … I would say a handful of children have been off for a few days with a sore throat and mild cold symptoms having tested positive for COVID . No need for the drama really.

Pootle40 · 19/09/2021 20:44

Nope and schools been back 4/5 weeks here.

Burntfingerz · 19/09/2021 20:45

@cttontail

Yes. And yes it is inevitable under current guidelines. It is presumably a deliberate policy, though the government(s) is (are) not admitting that. If they did, it could be properly debated.
This.
Maryann1975 · 19/09/2021 20:46

The three schools I deal with all have dc off with covid at the moment. One year group have been told they have to send a negative pcr test result before the child can go back as there are so many positive cases (including teacher) in the group.
School aren’t saying anything about it to the majority though, so I’m only going by what I hear on fb and the kids friends telling them who has it (which may or may not be reliable).

Frazzled2207 · 19/09/2021 20:46

Primary- not yet that I’ve heard
But it was a fairly desperate situation in July.

Malteser71 · 19/09/2021 20:46

Ripping?

Windyone · 19/09/2021 20:47

As you’d expect presumably. Cases will rise among younger kids and then level off again. Case numbers in England don’t seem to be rising overall.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 19/09/2021 20:47

Nope not yet

doorornottodoor · 19/09/2021 20:47

@LookdeepintotheParka as a secondary school teacher who had the fear last year, I know how you feel. You soon get used to it, relax a bit (assuming you’re not clinically vulnerable) and it’s so great to be back face to face teaching. ❤️ Hope it goes well. The students do need to be back in. My son did his whole first year last year without meeting one student in his course or one lecturer. Sad

NeurologicallySpeaking · 19/09/2021 20:48

Yes same - hybrid teaching and learning everyday since day 1 as various students self-isolating. Every positive lateral flow is turning into a positive PCR.

Interesting how much masks and bubbles must have helped given this is way more than we had in the summer already and it was delta then as well.

KittyMcKitty · 19/09/2021 20:49

No. There were a number of 6th formers off at the start of school year due to Reading - mix of COVID and general post festival chest infections. All back now.

Case rates in our area high after Reading but now v low again.

Molehillfromamountain · 19/09/2021 20:51

Yes, a small school of less than 100. We have a couple of cases in every year group at the moment. A family members child's class has 8 cases in class plus the teacher. It's very worrying.

Stroller15 · 19/09/2021 20:53

Yes, small primary, loads of positive cases on the fb page including DCs' class. School doesn't need to tell us of all the cases.

Rummikubfan · 19/09/2021 20:54

@FlowerBranch

Yup. Over 100 children off with confirmed cases. Somehow only 1 member of staff though

Well not really somehow. It’s the vaccination doing what it should be doing

Groovee · 19/09/2021 20:54

I work in a school. 1 case the first week back in august. But no other cases but lots of tests as per the guidelines.
