XenoBitch · 06/09/2021 23:33

Not for me

MercyBooth · 06/09/2021 23:33

So i guess we can look forward to hairdressers being shut again while celebs get their hair and make up done and prance about on Strictly.

BungleandGeorge · 06/09/2021 23:35

The messaging last winter was clearly that we’d be looking at increased measures this year too, and that was before the delta variant which is more severe and more transmissible. The current ‘strategy’ is a big gamble as they’re trying to get as many people as possible infected before the winter surge.
Are the people not wanting lockdowns the same group that don’t want vaccinations, masks, tests, isolation, vaccine passports etc? If you don’t want a lockdown then I think you have to play your part. Lock downs aren’t great for businesses but neither are high numbers of covid.

PrincessNutNuts · 06/09/2021 23:37

@IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves

Nobody can possibly know. It will depend entirely on the circumstances.
The last time there were this many people in hospital with covid was mid-March.

The time before that was the 19th October 2020.

On November 1st 2020 there were 979 people on mechanical ventilation. On September 3rd 2021 there are 1031.

Doubling is slower, and the numbers are more volatile, but the direction of travel feels pretty familiar.

Most of the current numbers only have to double around twice to be approaching January peak levels again.

I don't know if they will, but they've doubled approximately twice in the last 9 or 10 weeks.

MercyBooth · 06/09/2021 23:41

Nice theory bro but ive had my vaccine

Oh and while im on a roll do you realise that those on legacy benefits INCLUDING Carers Allowance didnt even get the UC uplift. You know ..............those family carers who do a fuck of a lot to keep the person they care for OUT of hospital Some of the NHS workers who have been calling the public dumb and all other sorts of nasty names on Twitter ( #freedumbday was the hashtag used) would do well to remember it!!!

Shanghaisprize · 06/09/2021 23:42

Wake up people!

Nutter alert..

PrincessNutNuts · 06/09/2021 23:42
Wonder if its the same SAGE source warning we were going to be locking down in July ( again reported by inres)? inews.co.uk/news/politics/covid-restrictions-compulsory-face-masks-return-lockdown-hospital-admissions-sage-warning-1112809?__twitter_impression=true
That's the point isn't it?

Data not dates.

If the numbers get high enough the lockdown will happen.

The rise in transmission caused by the July 19th open up was offset by a reduction in transmission caused by the school holidays. And numbers went back down again. For a while.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 06/09/2021 23:44

@MajorCarolDanvers

No

We need to live with this.

Which doesn't mean let it rip and kill anyone vulnerable enough to get taken out by out.
GoldenOmber · 06/09/2021 23:44

Nah there won’t. To the barely-concealed disappointment of many who see lockdowns as a just punishment for our national sins, I’m sure.

StoatMilk · 06/09/2021 23:46

Wouldn’t be surprised if we get a lockdown if cases soar.

AlwaysLatte · 06/09/2021 23:46

I think it's likely, the way the numbers are going up. A strict lockdown during October half term would be sensible if things get much worse, though it would be such a bore. Poor kids :-(

Fizbosshoes · 06/09/2021 23:46

Ah love how people put money before life

It's not an either or scenario.
The 10 years of Tory austerity cuts were blamed for thousands of deaths due to poverty. And that was pre covid, before companies were laying off staff in their thousands and household names were going to the wall on a daily basis. But yeah the people who need to work so they can pay rent and feed their children are so selfish! Confused

AlwaysLatte · 06/09/2021 23:49

No - otherwise it proves the vaccine doesn't work
Actually not that - lots of people are yet to have their vaccination. We kind of jumped the gun with the total lifting of restrictions all at once while so many were still waiting for their shots.

onlychildhamster · 06/09/2021 23:58

So does firebreak only affect the schools or does it extend to all businesses etc. I thought schools are the last thing we close; if schools are closed, wouldn''t everything else be closed.

I don't have any kids but I do think if we have to close anything, we should only close the schools as a last resort because nothing is more important than the education of the future generation aka people paying my pension. Also if the kids are not at school, the parents might find it difficult to work anyway.

Hillary17 · 07/09/2021 00:02

No. We can’t afford it firstly. Shops, bars, theatres etc. They need to be open. We’re facing a huge recruitment crisis in this country and shutting down again would cripple things. People won’t comply again.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 07/09/2021 00:04

@Shanghaisprize

Wake up people!

Nutter alert..

That's the one! Grin
kennycat · 07/09/2021 00:08

I bloody hope not. I’ll have to kill my husband if there is as he was such a hideous ratbag nightmare during the last one. He’s quite useful to have around so I could do with not being forced to do him in.

MyDcAreMarvel · 07/09/2021 00:09

@Lostinacloud wow 18 months in and you still don’t understand that you make other sick. Others cannot protect themselves from people like you.

Imfedupwithallofthis · 07/09/2021 00:10

Hello OP.
How are you doing?

Explosivefarts · 07/09/2021 00:11

I agree with you on those . Those on carers who have been providing help themselves for the past 18 months not even getting the uplift was disgusting. £67 a week . Last I heard this was being taken to court. Fingers crossed they get what they were owed .
Nat6999 · 07/09/2021 00:18

Ds has been volunteering in the test centre at school today, only 5 positive tests out of 2100 pupils. They were expecting many more.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 07/09/2021 00:18

@Hillary17

Well, if non-essential retail, hospitality etc is forced to close or severely limit numbers there will be no choice but to comply.
hayley037 · 07/09/2021 00:43

It will be the single biggest dent in public confidence in vaccines.

Good luck trying to get high take up in any boosters if any form of lockdown is introduced.

katesbushh · 07/09/2021 00:47

I'm always shocked at peoples surprise over this.
They said right at the very beginning that there would be rolling lockdowns as and when needed.

I'm also always shocked by the " no not me posters" well if everywhere is shut you're going to have to comply. I mean yes see you're family but it won't be like you can pop out for a manicure and a nice meal out just because you're "not complying".

And to the pp who said we can't keep saving the NHS. I agree, the NHS is massively underfunded and not fit for purpose.
But, they're saving the NHS for people who need it.
What happens if you had a massive rta etc
Heart attack
But all the ICU was full of covid.
They're trying to protect lives and not just from covid, from all the other things that can happen to someone where they need intervention.

I hope there isn't a lockdown I really do as I'm fed up of it. But my trust is starting to look like it did last October. There's most definitely that horrible sense of unease building there again.

DumplingsAndStew · 07/09/2021 00:52

No there won't be, because some people on Mumsnet don't want it to happen.

They'll stamp their feet and post in ALLCAPS
