Will there be another lockdown

In November time?

OP posts:
BrilloPaddy · 06/09/2021 22:53

People wouldn't comply. And rightly so.

We're hanging onto our business by a thread. I'm not closing it again to pacify the pearl clutching Covid hysterics, thanks all the same.

Covid is here to stay. We need to learn to live with it. And invest properly in the shit show that is the NHS.

Choccymumma · 06/09/2021 22:54

Something has to give. My daughter had her first day at school today (year 6) just had a message from school to say a close contact has a positive lateral flow and to look for symptoms. All in class as normal tomorrow so it could possibly be round the class by the end of the week. A while ago she would be isolating until we know for sure. Its a fucking mess.

HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 06/09/2021 22:54

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Nope. Not having this.

ViciousJackdaw · 06/09/2021 22:57

I hope not. I'd rather snuff it early after having some fun rather than just sit in the front room for years on end.

Topseyt · 06/09/2021 22:57

I hope it is unlikely. I certainly won't comply as I just will not agree to staying away from my family any more. I really can't believe now that I ever did agree to it (in the first lockdown).

We lost my Dad (not Covid related) during the last lockdown. I am so relieved that as his end got nearer I had had the good sense to stop following all lockdown rules. Otherwise I would never have got to say any sort of goodbye.

Anyone who tries to suggest that I cannot visit my elderly and vulnerable mother as and when needed can get to fuck. I will have no intention of listening.

A number of posters on here would probably love another lockdown and be salivating at the prospect. I am not one of them.

We have to learn to live with this. It won't be going away.

Quartz2208 · 06/09/2021 22:58

Even the article though doesn't actually say a lockdown to be fair.

We complied I think @NannyAndJohn for reasons that I am not sure exist anymore.

The first one through fear of the unknown and to gather information
The second/third ones to get vaccinations in.

What would this one achieve. If we look at NSW you can see the effect it is having there

The article itself is all about the potential for different measures.

I do agree though that getting the timing right is crucial - I disagree that it is right to do it now. We have so far managed each stage with an increase that goes down - Scotland have another week or so I think to see what happens although there schools and restrictions went at the same time.

Contigency plans are needed actually for that sort of timing as it would make sense to see what happens. 3-4 weeks is needed to see what happens.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 06/09/2021 22:58

People don’t want any restrictions or isolating but they also don’t want any lockdowns. Can’t logically have neither if cases go up too much.

Frazzled2207 · 06/09/2021 22:59

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo

According to the front pages of a couple of the papers tomorrow there will be a firebreak in October

www.tomorrowspapers.co.uk/i-front-page-2021-09-07/

IF caseloads threaten to overload the NHS.
Frazzled2207 · 06/09/2021 23:02

I wouldn't rule it out but I think after the adventures of Matt Hancock and Dominic Cummings and the rest I think public support will be very low. But if the NHS does get close to being overwhelmed again I suppose we'll have to.
But we were all told to get vaccinated. We did. If 90% of us being vaccinated doesn't stop further lockdowns then we're screwed frankly.

MyPatronusIsACat · 06/09/2021 23:02

NO.

IncessantNameChanger · 06/09/2021 23:02

God I really hope not. My year 2 dd is already totally fucked for life by the looks of it.

But if it happens it happens. Sod all I can do to stop things closing. Its going to be a interesting Christmas I fear.

I have only just taken my kids to see my mum since March last year. People are dieing of old age around me. I'm not sure I will stay away again. Either that or I'm going to max out my freedoms as I have been doing while I can.

I dont know. I cant handle going into a shop today during a pandemic without being required to wear a mask but it give it a few weeks and its non essentials shut but then open them a few weeks later and ditch the masks? Tomorrow go to work while your child at home has a positive PCR coughing all over you, but in a few weeks dont see your friends? It's all feeling slightly insane. I wish they had kept some of the basic precautions in place like masks indoors. Hokey cokey masks in masks out is just a step too far. Presumably if schools close I can still mix with the masses if I have covid cases at home? How the hell will it work? I'm not giving it headspace.

Buzzinwithbez · 06/09/2021 23:03

@Lostinacloud

Wake up people! All part of the propaganda plan to make the government’s inevitable upcoming overruling of the country’s expert committee on vaccinations and immunisations acceptable and lead parents into consenting to their 12-15 year olds being vaccinated. They will spin the prospect of a lockdown and possible further school closures caused by an inevitable rise in cases now the kids have gone back and will probably chuck in a few studies that have suddenly come to light after 18 months that show 12-15 year olds are most likely to get long covid or heart issues from actual covid and then we will all gladly accept this unprecedented overruling and ask no more questions. I’m sure we’ll all soon learn that cases are rising the most in the 12-18 age group too. But fear not, the JVCI’s team of medical expert and researchers decision will be overruled in an unprecedented and frankly quite scary move by the government and vaccinations will be opened to teens. It will be the “saviour” of the NHS….again!! It’s not enough that practically every adult is vaccinated and it’s estimated that over 50% of teens have antibodies already. And don’t worry about the fact that despite these huge vaccination and immunity figures, covid cases are still rising and so it seems the vaccines have not been magic solution they were touted as so why will vaccinating teens help?

Please, if this happens can more people push back and not accept it anymore? No more lockdowns, school closures or disruptions, limits on travel or pointless covid passports. We really do need more of us to put our hands up and say - Enough. Thanks for all your advice and guidance government, I will now make my own decisions about the health of myself and my friends and family and you can go back to sorting out the multiple National problems we now all face.

Great post!
imjustsoworried · 06/09/2021 23:03

Sorry I might be really dense and I've generally avoided these threads so far but is everyone totally unaware that folk have covid left right and centre or am I missing something? It's all very well and good to say blah blah the economy but the economy won't survive if every other person is isolating anyway.

jimmyhill · 06/09/2021 23:04

@icedcoffees

We can't afford a fourth lockdown.
Like we couldn't afford the first second and third
derenstar · 06/09/2021 23:06

Never say never but I think unless the level of personal threat increases (I.e we get a super deadly variant that evades our vaccines), it would achieve fuck all as most people won’t stop seeing their family and friends. I don’t think shutting down to ‘save the nhs’ will get the same level if buy-in it did before. lots of people are past caring now.

Iggly · 06/09/2021 23:06

Ah love how people put money before life. Lockdowns will happen if they need to. Politicians don’t want bodies piling up.

Unless the NHS is suitably funded, this is the risk of future pandemics. I can’t imagine this will be the last one we see in our lifetime.

So, do we want a decently funded NHS than can cope with being swamped? I do. Change is needed to improve the structure of key public services and it has to be done by restructuring how they’re funded. I’ve had enough of neoliberalism.

Until then, suck it up and don’t be surprised we have lockdowns.

lannistunut · 06/09/2021 23:08

@BrilloPaddy

Covid is here to stay. We need to learn to live with it. And invest properly in the shit show that is the NHS.

Presumably you would comply if there were fines as previously?

It isn't about 'pearl clutching covid hysterics' (whoever they are) it is about government decisions.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 06/09/2021 23:09

Not even close to 90% of the population is vaccinated. There is high take up in some older cohorts but much much lower in others.

Recent estimates suggested that in older cohorts where there is near or over 90% takeup, around 60% of hospitalisations in that cohort are unvaccinated. If roughly 60% of hospitalisations are coming from 5-10% of a cohort, then the vaccines are in fact working extremely well indeed.

I’m no fan of how Sage etc. have handled all of this, but to be fair, they were open and honest from the start that it would be a long long process, multiple lockdowns would probably be required, and vaccines would not be a magic bullet.

Anyone who has thought they would be a magic bullet that would prevent further restrictions or lockdowns has only been deluding themselves IMO.

Christ almighty, vaccinate the fucking children!

What is wrong with this government.

People only cared about the vulnerable when they were old.

Children literally aren’t important. It’s very dispiriting

moppat · 06/09/2021 23:12

I perhaps naively thought it defo wouldn't happen again but the drip feeding of the vaccine wearing off for the elderly & the "warning" of new lockdowns is making me think it might be possible.

In terms of compliance I don't want to comply but if the hospitals get overwhelmed fear will make me as I won't want to risk my parents etc

MaxNormal · 06/09/2021 23:15

Ah love how people put money before life

Seeing as you need money for survival that's not a clearcut distinction though.

PrincessNutNuts · 06/09/2021 23:16

@icedcoffees

We can't afford a fourth lockdown.
We couldn't afford the first three either.

When the government have let things go to shit sufficiently it will be the only option.

Having a little one at half term takes things off the boil so that they can put off the next big lockdown until after Christmas.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 06/09/2021 23:18

Nobody can possibly know.
It will depend entirely on the circumstances.

OnTheBrink1 · 06/09/2021 23:29

I’m not staying away from family and close friends again for weeks. Just never going to happen even if fines are a threat. I won’t be the only one.

Bordois · 06/09/2021 23:32

Wonder if its the same SAGE source warning we were going to be locking down in July ( again reported by inres)? inews.co.uk/news/politics/covid-restrictions-compulsory-face-masks-return-lockdown-hospital-admissions-sage-warning-1112809?__twitter_impression=true
