@PileOfBooks

No. Hth.
Nailed it.
Yummypancake · 06/09/2021 22:29

Will 2 weeks actually make any difference? Sorry I have forgotten what happened in last lockdowns/firebreaks. Do they not call them 2 week firebreaks then end up being 2 months?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 06/09/2021 22:29

I don't think there will be mass closures again. I mainly just thought it was good timing that this thread appeared in active just as the front pages were released for tomorrow with lockdown headlines.

I think it's possible the 1 week half terms in October and February could be changed to 2 weeks to break the school transmission a bit.

I think it's possible that masks could be reintroduced in some circumstance but it would be hard with nightclubs/festivals etc as unlikely they'll want to enforce mask wearing in those situations.

Personally I'm happy wearing masks in retail/medical/transport/restaurants to seat. Wouldn't see the point in a bar/club as environment is too close, but they're not places I hang out anyway so not an issue for me.

I think that there could be reductions in size allowances for large group events like weddings and for large events like concerts but not down to previous lockdown levels.

It would all be very fine balance stuff, not mass lockdown.

VaccineSticker · 06/09/2021 22:31

It is not all or nothing.
Cases and hospitalisation are going up.
If they keep going up to the point of breaking point, there will be some intervention needed.
I doubt it will be full lockdown.
People need to stop being silly and sarcastic and angry about it all.
We are in a pandemic. We have done so well with the vaccines, but with winter coming and schools back, a lid needs to be kept on it so we can enjoy these freedoms we have got and the poor non covid patients that have been waiting for months to get treated can use the hospital again.

Lostinacloud · 06/09/2021 22:31

Wake up people! All part of the propaganda plan to make the government’s inevitable upcoming overruling of the country’s expert committee on vaccinations and immunisations acceptable and lead parents into consenting to their 12-15 year olds being vaccinated.
They will spin the prospect of a lockdown and possible further school closures caused by an inevitable rise in cases now the kids have gone back and will probably chuck in a few studies that have suddenly come to light after 18 months that show 12-15 year olds are most likely to get long covid or heart issues from actual covid and then we will all gladly accept this unprecedented overruling and ask no more questions. I’m sure we’ll all soon learn that cases are rising the most in the 12-18 age group too.
But fear not, the JVCI’s team of medical expert and researchers decision will be overruled in an unprecedented and frankly quite scary move by the government and vaccinations will be opened to teens. It will be the “saviour” of the NHS….again!!
It’s not enough that practically every adult is vaccinated and it’s estimated that over 50% of teens have antibodies already. And don’t worry about the fact that despite these huge vaccination and immunity figures, covid cases are still rising and so it seems the vaccines have not been magic solution they were touted as so why will vaccinating teens help?

Please, if this happens can more people push back and not accept it anymore? No more lockdowns, school closures or disruptions, limits on travel or pointless covid passports. We really do need more of us to put our hands up and say - Enough. Thanks for all your advice and guidance government, I will now make my own decisions about the health of myself and my friends and family and you can go back to sorting out the multiple National problems we now all face.

Katie517 · 06/09/2021 22:32

There had better not be! They have had 18 months to sort the issues with the NHS out and they have done nothing except waste billions of pounds on pointless track and trace systems and paying covid Marshall’s to do nothing rather than properly funding the health service.

It isn’t everyone else’s responsibility to give up their lives to save the NHS time and time again. Why are my families hospitality businesses fine to suffer financial ruin time and time again? The NHS isn’t all that matters and I am so sick of this now. Compliance will be low, people will still see friends and family in their homes so yet again businesses who have already lost so much will be the ones that suffer! If they try and close the economy down again I really hope there is some sort of huge push back.

Quartz2208 · 06/09/2021 22:34

yet another article though when the headline doesnt quite reflect the content.

IceLace100 · 06/09/2021 22:34

No stop scare mongering.

NotMyCat · 06/09/2021 22:34

I think there might be something. Don't ask me what
Only because ambulance services are slammed, waiting times are insane and we haven't even got to flu season yet...

PurpleDaisies · 06/09/2021 22:36

@IceLace100

No stop scare mongering.
It’s literally a headline on a major newspaper tonight. It isn’t scaremongering. It’s discussion.
olivethegreat · 06/09/2021 22:38

Well this time I'm ready. I've got an office chair and a dog.

idontlikealdi · 06/09/2021 22:40

Fuck knows.

I think there is going to be a mess for the NHS once flu season hits though.

Cailin66 · 06/09/2021 22:41

@olivethegreat

Well this time I'm ready. I've got an office chair and a dog.
I’m ready too. Heading abroad to avoid it.
PrincessNutNuts · 06/09/2021 22:42

@Doublethecars

In November time?
Yes.

Of course there is.

It's government policy to let things go almost to shit then call a lockdown.

Except for last November which was a lockdown to protect Christmas shopping.

A lockdown to bring numbers down enough to allow a few weeks of Christmas shopping before the January lockdown.

It's possible they'll do the same this year.

And next.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/09/2021 22:42

They can fuck right off

Flaxmeadow · 06/09/2021 22:43

Probably yes.

We were told this kind of rolling lockdowns was a strong possibility back in March 2020.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 06/09/2021 22:43

@clarkkentsglasses

No - otherwise it proves the vaccine doesn't work
Errrrr….the majority of hospitalisations are in the unvaccinated. How does that prove the vaccines don’t work? Hmm

Christ almighty, vaccinate the fucking children!

What is wrong with this government.

The government wants to vaccinate the children. It’s the scientists that are saying minimal benefit.
DramaAlpaca · 06/09/2021 22:44

I very much doubt it.

PrincessNutNuts · 06/09/2021 22:47

@clarkkentsglasses

No - otherwise it proves the vaccine doesn't work
The vaccines work.

They have dramatically reduced the % of cases that go to hospital and/or die.

But a tiny percentage of the massive number of cases you get when you give the virus unfettered access to the British people is thousands of people.

Iwanttobeapaperbackwriter · 06/09/2021 22:48

Agree with purple again Grin

The we can't afford a lockdown brigade fails to see we can't afford millions out of work with covid.

Hope we don't have a lockdown, fear we will.

perfectasalways · 06/09/2021 22:48

Well I'm in Scotland and if wee Jimmy Crankie has her way she will lock us up again. She doesn't seem to like people having too much fun. She is seriously getting on my wick now and has done for some time. She doesn't even drink!

lannistunut · 06/09/2021 22:49

This again?

It's contingency plans. Nothing more than that. It would be very bad if such plans weren't in place but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. The usual media drama.

Yeah, cos we have avoided lockdown every other time there have been leaked contingency plans Hmm

Plumtree391 · 06/09/2021 22:49

I wouldn't have thought so. I also doubt very much if people would comply for a third lockdown.

NannyAndJohn · 06/09/2021 22:52

@Plumtree391

I wouldn't have thought so. I also doubt very much if people would comply for a third lockdown.
It was thought that no one would comply with the first Lockdown.

But we did.

It was thought that no one would comply with the second Lockdown.

But we did.
