Bloody hell, dd Positive LFT , can it be something you have eaten ?

Dd has a positive LFT. I stupidly did the test close to food, remember reading something on here about certain foods causing a strong positive , is that true and if so how long do I need to leave it before testing again ? Assume we all need to test now ?
She has done it for school , DH and I have never needed to test, hence me not knowing the drill.

We are all vaccinated apart from dd but we will keep away from any other people until we know. We live rurally so it is easy to avoid contact .

@SirVixofVixHall if your in england you can book a pcr online ,

User5827372728 · 01/09/2021 20:02

You can book a pcr online and I would book for all the family. Even though if she does have covid any one else in family who’s double vaxxed or under 18 can carry on as normal

hotasharibo · 01/09/2021 20:24

Probably best to book a PCR anyway as even if the next LFD is negative if you have a PCR you'll know for certain.

Good luck, at least dd doesn't have symptoms

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 20:24

Dd1 is 16 and single vaxxed as they are only giving 16 year olds one dose at present. She had her vaccination three and a half weeks ago so hopefully has some protection. She isn’t due back in school until Monday, I had better work out what the rules are ! Going to re-test dd1 shortly.

I don't understand how you've managed to avoid any sort of test especially for your older daughter? Are you in England?

DiscoDown21 · 01/09/2021 20:59

You don’t all need pcr tests either. If it’s positive or you feel the need and she’s been a contact then it may be wise for her to test with PCR. But a PCR test is too soon for her contacts ( you and family). Plus she may be negative on a PCR and it’s a waste of tests.

We haven’t avoided all tests. Daughters did the LFTs when they were in school. I have never had to do either type of test. We haven’t ever had a ping as we have hardly seen anyone, and we haven’t been inside anywhere. So none of us have had to do a PCR. Dd1 has done a LfT, negative. I have done one, negative. DH is doing one now and DD1 did another that shows a very faint positive, nothing like the first test. So my feeling is that it is the vitamin C fizzy tabs but will get PCR and we will all avoid all contact until we know.

Why do you think it's something she's eaten rather than covid? Covid is pretty rife right now and I haven't heard of many false positives in LFTs.

I would assume she's positive and get a PCR for her tomorrow. Chances are she'll be fine - my DC were when they had covid earlier this year.

Forstarters · 01/09/2021 22:00

Blackcurrant drinks don’t cause a positive test 3 hours after drinking. She has Covid

Howshouldibehave · 01/09/2021 22:02

You don’t need to do any more LFD tests. Get her a PCR and see if that’s positive.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 01/09/2021 22:02

A faint positive is still a positive. PCR for all, and the little one seems to have Covid. Hope she isnt feeling too crap!

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 22:14

PCR booked. Quite a drive but will be done in the morning.
She had eaten some of the vitamin tab itself so very acidic and has pitted tonsils . First positive very strong within minutes, second very faint after half an hour. That is why I wonder. I am obviously absolutely assuming Covid though and acting accordingly.
How long do PCR tests take to come back ? Re illness, do you get the positive and then get ill later ? I am hoping she won’t be too unwell and rather scared as I am at increased risk. She is upset and worried about missing the start of school.

Just had to do exactly the same thing. Thought I Just had a cold. Bugger.

Have ordered PCR tests for home. I hardly go anywhere so really hacked off

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 22:30

Sorry to read that, hope you are ok. I had a really important thing tomorrow. Oh well. Just have to hope that if she is positive that none of us get very ill.

She has covid ! Stop being in denial.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 22:36

She has no symptoms at all, feels normal.
I am worried though.

I have done loads of lft's and pcr for work. Was told not to drink pepsi or smoke half and hour before I do 1. Never left it 30 mins, done it maybe 10 mins after and all have been negative. Even all the pcr's i've done are negative.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 22:42

How am i “in denial” ? Why post just to be unkind, does it make you feel nice sitting at home doing that? I have clearly stated that I have booked a PCR for the morning, that I am assuming Covid and that we will take every precaution as a family. How is that “denial” ? I actually had a really difficult and upsetting thing to do tomorrow and your unkindness has just added to the distress of this.

This probably sounds very daft to a lot of people.

Pineapple and grapefruit juice are contraindications on my medication though.

Horehound · 01/09/2021 22:44

If you read the Instructions you're meant to do it at least 30mins after food...

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 01/09/2021 22:46

OP I am sure she'll be fine. My teens both had covid and were fine, a bit tired and sore throat for a day or two but that was it.

And we never caught it off them.

We kept our distance, as much as you can in a house, and ate together but wore masks if we were in proximity for any other reason.

I am sure you will all be fine x

Jemand · 01/09/2021 22:46

Did you redo the LFT?

toomuchlaundry · 01/09/2021 22:47

A friend's DS tested positive on LFT. Had no symptoms. Tested positive on PCR, the next day started with symptoms. Hasn't been too poorly, but definitely feels poorly.

I hope all is ok @SirVixofVixHall

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 22:50

Yes I was stupid and didn’t read the instructions, just did what DH had said I should do. Lesson learned for next time. Anyway PCR will be done fairly early in the morning so we will get an accurate result quickly I hope. There is a lot of Covid locally so I felt resigned to her possibly picking it up once she went back to school, but I had a hope that they might start vaccinating her age group shortly and that she might escape it if so.
