Dd has a positive LFT. I stupidly did the test close to food, remember reading something on here about certain foods causing a strong positive , is that true and if so how long do I need to leave it before testing again ? Assume we all need to test now ?
She has done it for school , DH and I have never needed to test, hence me not knowing the drill.

All these 'other viruses are still available' type posts annoy me. Yes they are. However, if you live with positive cases, I'd say its highly likely that a person with symptoms has covid. The most obvious answer is that it's a false negative. the OP says herself that she had only really seen her family members.
When I worked on the contact tracing service you would often see negative results followed by a positive a few days apart.
@lockdownmadnessdotcom I thought everyone was encouraged to do LFTs twice weekly. And obv if anyone in your family has cough or temp. And secondary school kids. Or has it basically been toddlers and teens having to suffer this?
Secondary school pupils and teachers were all encouraged to do them twice a week. Primary school kids weren’t - but their teachers were. People with symptoms should be doing PCR not LFT.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 05/09/2021 07:50

Everyone is encouraged to do it and gave been since about April.

Small children have lots of coughs and temps and are usually excluded from. School or childcare til they get a test which they hate. Meanwhile there are adults who have never taken a test, even though they should have. (lft, biweekly)

Tryingtryingandtrying · 05/09/2021 07:51

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing/regular-rapid-coronavirus-tests-if-you-do-not-have-symptoms/

See, everyone. So many adults happy to leave it to teens to be the litmus papers.

Milkbottlelegs · 05/09/2021 07:53

Their parents were also encouraged to.

Since they became so widely available anyone has been able to order packs of LFTs so can test regularly.

I wouldn't rely on lateral flow tests. I felt ill so took a lateral flow yesterday it was negative.
Managed to get to a walk in centre yesterday for a test and I've had the results today positive.
I feel really ill despite being double jabbed and I praying I haven't given it to my family.

Have you gone a LFT?
BlackAlys · 05/09/2021 14:14

@Kitchendrama1 , Wonky has done both.

Hope you're ok @Wonkydonkey44 . Paracetamol and lots of rest and tons of fluids.

BlackAlys · 05/09/2021 14:15

My youngest felt rotten this morning and has had a positive result
On her LFT. Booked and already done the PCR, hopefully results back soon.

@SirVixofVixHall sorry to derail your thread. Shwd ma pawb gyda ti?

Yes my friend has been working with track and trace and says this is common, so dd1 and I are also isolating, and we both had another PCR today. Dd1 felt off yesterday she is fine today so maybe has just shrugged it off, she is vaccinated with one dose. Dd2 is absolutely fine.

@Glitterandunicorns

What I saw about false positives wasn't that something had been consumed that caused the result; I'm sure it was that the juice was being poured into the test area.

Did your DD wait for 30 mins after eating or drinking anything before doing the LFT?

That was definitely my understanding too. Highly unlikely to be the result of ingested food or drink.
knittingaddict · 05/09/2021 18:03

Reading the thread.

So eating and drinking may cause issues with the test. However this is a different issue to all the kids putting juice on the tests to get a false positive?

I haven’t seen anything suggesting that we test twice a week, only the dds while in school. Maybe as neither Dh nor I work with other people or use public transport ? (Nor have we been into cafes etc.) Neither dd has been with friends this holiday. Somewhat ironic that we have it as we have been the most cautious out of all our friends. Although dd almost certainly caught this from another child who had a negative LFT on entering the thing, but a positive family member at home, and who then tested positive on returning home. Allowing people under 18 to mix when they have active Covid at home is insane, and had I known this was the case I would not have allowed dd to do the activity. Hence us all isolating now. I don’t want to give it to anyone else.

@SirVixofVixHall I linked to a gov.uk website where its clear. This has been encouraged for months. Like the asymptomatic testing sites set up last winter. Initially for keyworkers but once they could test at home was encouraged for everyone. Did you not hear or see the 1 in 3 people who have covid are asymptomatic adverts everywhere?

BowiesJumper · 05/09/2021 18:49

Hope you’re all ok. Our school included a note in the newsletter last year to remind people that everyone with children at school were encouraged to do a lft twice a week. We have been since.

No I didn’t. Nor have i had any offers of LFTs .
I am not in England.

Anyway somewhat irrelevant as I haven’t been inside anywhere apart from a dental appointment (no mention of a prior LFT) in 20 months.

We haven’t had this, I am very rule abiding and we would have done it is asked. The school LFTs are optional and although my children do them, many do not.

Vix I'm Welsh and you can pick up LFTs in pharmacies. Did you not hear about it? No. You didn't because no one has actually said. There has been no awareness campaign. I found out by chance because I saw someone walk out with a box and it turns out we can get them. I'm assuming you are in Wales because of the cymraeg, apologies if not.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/09/2021 19:18

Dw i’n Cymraes, yng Nghymru ie.
I had no idea about this, we have had them sent by the school but I didn’t realise that everyone was supposed to do them.
I have friends in some professions who have been tested twice a week for some time , I assumed PCRs ?
None of my local friends are testing twice a week, apart from the teachers or others expected to for work, I will pass this information around, thank you.
As I say, it hasn’t been an issue for me personally as I have been extremely cautious due to my risk, and that of one of my children. (I am probably the last person in Britain still washing groceries... Grin ) .
So for me to do a LFT twice a week would have been a massive waste of plastic and resources, but for anyone out and about it makes sense. I will tell my older relatives too.

In Scotland it’s advertised in lots of places that twice weekly tests are recommended. Tests are easily available from schools, pharmacies, walk in test centres and will be delivered direct the next day if ordered online. Where I am secondary school kids are asked to do them twice weekly but it’s not compulsory. But it’s been well advertised.
