Dd has a positive LFT. I stupidly did the test close to food, remember reading something on here about certain foods causing a strong positive , is that true and if so how long do I need to leave it before testing again ? Assume we all need to test now ?
She has done it for school , DH and I have never needed to test, hence me not knowing the drill.

One was blackcurrant squash - I think.

hellcatspangle · 01/09/2021 19:16

Orange juice I think was another

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 19:17

She did have a fizzy vitamin C thing that has blackcurrant in I think. I suppose I need to do the LFT as I didn't have the fizz.

I seem to recall some folks were putting grapefruit or pineapple juice on the test area. I can't imagine that foodstuff caused the positive result unless you deliberately poured it on the test area. Sorry.

Wendsleydale · 01/09/2021 19:19

Give it an hour and do it again

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 19:19

How long does it take for the orange juice/blackcurrant to wear off ?

Glitterandunicorns · 01/09/2021 19:19

What I saw about false positives wasn't that something had been consumed that caused the result; I'm sure it was that the juice was being poured into the test area.

Did your DD wait for 30 mins after eating or drinking anything before doing the LFT?

Suzi888 · 01/09/2021 19:19

Can you wait an hour and test again?

Wafflethefuckinwonderdog · 01/09/2021 19:20

They say you should wait half hour after you've had food or drink so give it an hour and do another test.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/09/2021 19:20

My work and new say an hour after food or drink. I’d give her a glass of water and then leave it an hour.

hamstersarse · 01/09/2021 19:20

I’d heard about orange juice creating a positive so swabbed an orange and did the process….positive 🤷‍♀️

VaguelyInteresting · 01/09/2021 19:22

Yeah you need to leave an hour between eating/drinking and testing for this very reason.

TSSDNCOP · 01/09/2021 19:22

Do you have more LFT's or did she have the test at school?

Book her a PCR whilst she isolates. If it's positive she's in quarantine, if it isn't she goes back to school.

If you and DH are double-vaxxed you do not need to isolate pending the PCR result.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 19:24

Eeek, I am worried. DH and I both double vaxxed, dd 16 has had one dose. Dd2 is too young to have been jabbed yet.
I have coeliac disease which can increase risk . None of us are unwell. She had a negative test yesterday, done as she had been in a (large) space on the weekend where someone had since tested positive, so she could have picked it up, but she wasn’t a very close contact.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 19:26

I will wait an hour and do another.
Fingers crossed it is negative. This one was positive very quickly.

Book a pcr anyway to be sure , if you get one tomorrow likely have the result friday ( although can take longer )

PreacherTeacher · 01/09/2021 19:29

I thought the solution was a pH buffer?

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 19:33

I must sound clueless, how do I book a PCR ? Do we all need them ?
We have been extremely careful for so long that it has never come up before.

AttaGirrrrl · 01/09/2021 19:34

I’d skip the second LFT as it won’t really reassure you either way and book PCRs for all four of you now ready for tomorrow. At least that wag you’ll know for sure.

AttaGirrrrl · 01/09/2021 19:35

www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

TSSDNCOP · 01/09/2021 19:36

In my experience (HR, known many many people with Covid) a positive test quickly is unlikely to be wrong.

To book a PCR you just go online and enter "book a PCR", it's very easy and you will likely have the result within 24-36 hours. DD must isolate immediately pending the result.

Meanwhile if you're double vaxxed you can go about your business.

FannyFifer · 01/09/2021 19:37

You now need to all self isolate until u get PCR tests.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/09/2021 19:40

It was much less than half an hour after food. I am an idiot. DH has done every one with her until now, but he is out, so I did it and only afterwards thought about the closeness to food and drink.
Oh well, fingers crossed that it is a false alarm. I will try and find out how to book a PCR .

@FannyFifer

You now need to all self isolate until u get PCR tests.
Not if they live in England.
TSSDNCOP · 01/09/2021 19:47

Household contacts who are not required to self-isolate from 16 August
From 16 August, you will not be required to self-isolate if you live in the same household as someone with COVID-19 and any of the following apply:
• you are fully vaccinated
• you are below the age of 18 years 6 months
• you have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
